To be fair Coco there's nothing there in @dkw post that you've tagged there which suggests he hated Tuchel from day one. If I remember rightly that performance against Wolves was genuinely dreadful and rightfully got a bit of criticism. Not just from DKW but most other posters too.
What will be interesting for me 12-18 months down the line is if the same people that were so keen for Tuchel to go, will have the same feelings if Potter has us struggling, or will he deserve more time? Despite not having the credit in the bank that we thought Tuchel had.
Personally, I do hope he gets time and this is the start of something new and long term at this club. But I had the same hopes that DKW was expressing in that post about Lampard, and I had the same hopes for Tuchel. I hope this time it's different, but we've had the same hopes so many times in the past. The only difference now of course being the owners.

As appointments go, I think no matter your personal opinion on Potter, this feels like a big departure from any previous managerial appointment.

We've had 20 years of "win now" appointments, managers with pedigree who have experience succeeding at the top level. (With the exception of RDM who was initially just an interim, and Frank who signed during a transfer ban).

Whether this actually means we're going to see a change in philosophy from the top down is the big question for me. I believe given time Potter can do well at Chelsea. I don't expect him to instantly fix this side though. I'd like to think the new ownership are appointing him knowing full well that this represents a long term commitment to a project, as if they were looking for a quick turnaround surely they'd have sought out someone like Pochettino first?

His initial interview(s) and the length of contract he's given (I've seen it rumoured he's been offered 5 years) are going to be really telling I think.

Get f**king Bielsa in, we'll never get another chance

I mean he won't do it due to his principles (previous association with Leeds, working for an American), but we should at least try. We'll win nothing and come 8th but it'll be the most fun any of us have had since the 90s.

I dont actually dislike Pulisic that much or care what he does. But he seems to have this weird cult of fans who put his interests above the club interests. Hopefully when he does leave he can take these cult fans with him.
I would also wager that he will feature about the same as he did under Tuchel, under whoever the new manager is.

A better product on the field than what was served to us at the end of TT’s reign. A man manager, the ability to connect and fire up the team, despite the occasion - be it CL group game, or an away match on a cold and rainy November evening. Grit. Determination. Flexibility and fluidity. Top 4 is a pipe dream if we don’t get our **** together and play as one committed unit.

In all honesty, we lost against some of the worst CL club ever that all other big teams use for a goal difference boost. He can't blame nobody but himself, I knew that at some point he needed to get our attack going and having only 3 shots on target against a team that has a total value of 90m is just terrible.

More conceded goals than goals scored.

This thread is ridiculous.  We were on the brink of collapse during sanctions.  New owners don't spend this kind of money without bringing change and I can guarantee you the level of mediocrity they have seen would not be acceptable in any of their organizations.
The timing is poor, but a little objectivity shows this has been coming since April, perhaps longer.

Wow, what news to wake up to. Can’t say that I am shocked by the decision, our football has been absolutely lifeless, predictable and boring. We are like an empty husk or shell when we play. And the press conferences were just cringy.
I agree TT is an elite tactician for the big occasion, but his inflexibility and nous for breaking down the lesser teams was terribly exposed. The team had no fight and spirit towards the end, and to me that falls on TT. This is a results driven game nowadays, particularly at CFC, and sadly ours have not been up to snuff.

I would’ve certainly been all in on giving TT more time if the lads were fighting for each game, with spirit and the desire to win at all costs. But that has been absent and sucked out of the team. What signs were there that this was going to improve? That question alone helps me digest this and look forward.
Thank you Thomas for the memories, wish you the best and saddened you left in this manner.

Scott, The problem is that this sacking is the latest in a long line that has proved that the practice of hire and fire over an eighteen month cycle, is now this Club's ethos, DNA, soul, whatever you want to call it. We are now known or even renowned for this and I just cannot believe that anyone who has supported the Club as long as most of us on here, are even a little surprised. We get them in, enjoy a period of success, players lose faith with the system and we sack them. Simple as. I am convinced that TT know he was going BEFORE last night's presser, in which he rightly looked dejected, upset, shocked etc. It wasn't the performance that did that, it was the fact that he had been sacked by then. Whilst you say that there is no dignity or class at the Club, in reality, this is no longer a Club, it is a business and business at any level can be cut throat where dignity and class are rude words. TT was paid £15m per year and he knew the risks before he signed up, you come in succeed and you will be fine, but start failing and your arse won't touch the ground.
Personally, I was really fed up with the style of football, tactics, defensiveness (which wasn't working) and total inflexibiilty of TT to change anything. I would have given him until the World Cup break to see if he could turn it around, but honestly did not expect him too.

I sort of got the feeling that he might have lost the locker room.  I thought he would have at least til the World Cup break but I'm not entirely disappointed either.

Again it's one thing if one or two players stop playing hard, just bench them.  But this whole team top to bottom stopped playing hard outside of Silva and Kova.

Firstly, to those who are sad, upset, surprised, angry - I feel for you. Sorry that you are going through something that will be hard to stomach for many…
I tried (and succeeded!)to keep off here last night after the joyless and lifeless defeat to Zagreb. I had nothing to say that has not been said by me, @dkw@Scott Harrisand countless others on multiple different times over the last year. But I could not keep off now…
The reality is that Tuchel took a team that won the champions league, and for whatever reason, some (perhaps even most?) of which was certainly out of his control, destroyed it. As a manager of a top team, you live and die by your decisions, and Tuchels decision to stick with the dour, safety first approach, that not only bored fans, but also killed any creativity we had in it.
I am astounded by the timing, having just apparently backed him in the transfer market - which makes me think there is more than meets the eye.
But aside from the timing, I am not shocked, or surprised, and feel it is probably on balance the right decision. I accept that may not be popular, but this stinks of Jose mk2. A high profile incident (Eva vs Handshake), dour and lifeless football, a refusal to change the style and instead say the system is not the problem (simply putting the blame on the players - yet continuing to select them)..
I thank Tuchel for making us European and World Champions….he has his place in history. I will not miss the ultra defensive, ultra negative, ultra low risk football he brought to the table.
But looking forward, I have hope. We ARE a good team. Look how awesome we looked against Juve, against Madrid (2nd leg), against spurs this season….When the players are allowed to play with the handbrake off, then we ARE top class. Unfortunately, we did not do it (or were not allowed to do it) often enough.

Positives - Mendy barely had anything to do which shows the defence in a getting better
Negatives - When Mendy did have something to do, he messed it up.

Extraordinarily fortunate with that VAR decision. I'd be mighty annoyed if we scored that and it was chopped off.
Fofana a real bright point in the game and I thought Silva was excellent again.
I'll say one thing for Jorginho, when he makes a f**k up like the one he did against Spurs its a credit to him that he wants to test himself again to try and improve. Good to see him again giving away the ball stupidly and nearly throw the game. Keep trying Jorgy, one day you might yet it right.

We got very lucky with that call at the end. But we can also argue we were due some fortune from VAR after the Spurs game. Surely Chilly has to start next game after today? Kepa too probably although I cannot believe we have reached that point 😉
