Chelsea v Leeds (PL) Sat 4th Mar 2023 15:00 GMT
I don't think it will, I actually think it will have a worse impact on confidence than any of the defeats. We've finally scored for the first time in a millennia, the bridge is rocking, tears of relief and joy are flowing as we're 1-0 up against a championship team with a terrible defence who are now chasing the game. They bring on attacking subs to come out And........ We take off almost all our attacking players and play old Burnley turtle football hanging on for a 1-0 against a championship team I bet Mudryk, Sterling, Felix etc feel lower than ever. Felix is only even here because he couldn't stand Simeone doing the exact same thing even when Atletico regularly win games. I thought the whole point of this "project" was to implement a style with talented young attacking players

The wins are so rare now I'm surprised the groundsmen haven't misplaced the track

Always good to end on a high. Should still be sacked before the Dortmund game.

Wait for the 2nd half to start before saying that.

I said it last month when we were 6 points clear of them but I can't see us finishing above Villa in any of the next 5 years without a change at the club. You're never going to back a Potter team to finish above an Unai Emery side. Pretty huge gulf between the managers.

People calling Havertz a generational talent must be the all time worst football opinion.

Auba also has the highest win percentage of any player to play under Potter. Which may be why he was banished from the CL squad as winning this early isn't part of the project. A project that seemingly doesn't include Mudryk or D.Fofana either, great to see us writing off the season for Graham and him responding by playing old pros and loanees over the new young talent we need to bed in. If they can't play while we have next to nothing to play for and can't score to save our lives when will they play?

Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager
It's painful to even think about it as I want to win every game especially against dirty Leeds. But if I knew for certain Potter would get sacked if he lost and we'd have a new manager for the Dortmund game and thus a better chance of actually salvaging the season I think I'd be fairly happy at the end of the game against Leeds. Think a lot of people are scared of an Ole situation (obviously Potter isn't as good a manager as Ole is) were he's on the verge of the sack but wins the odd game to keep his job despite it being clear he isn't the man to take the team forward and will never win trophies and we sort of limp on for 18 months or so.

Trevoh Chalobah
The obvious answers being the transfer fee and the competition for Gvaridol will be much higher. It's not hard to see plenty of Italian clubs moving for Koulibaly albeit they'll likely want us to subsidise his wages. No Italian club has a shot at Gvardiol

Simon Jordan has perfectly summed up our situation. He's said when you bring in a manager you do so believing he can improve the players and the club. Boehlys Chelsea is the first club ever to be be bringing in new players hoping they can improve the manager. And once you start desperately hoping the manager will improve rather than believing in him he simply has to go.

It's been hilarious to see how the excuses to defend Potter have got wilder each week. But we've now reached the point of suggesting injured players (Pulisic) players completely excluded from the squad (Auba) players who the club agreed to let go (Ziyech) and all the previous managers new signings who hadn't worked with Potter before (Sterling, KK and Auba) have downed tools. We have the biggest squad in Europe surely Potter can pick 11 players that haven't "downed tools" and if in a squad of 1246 players he can't motivate any of them he's the problem anyway. That said we don't look like a team that's downed tools, we wouldn't have one of the best defensive records in the league if we did because it's usually the defensive side that suffers when players aren't prepared to work hard. We look like a very poorly coached side, we're absolutely terrible at pressing and there's no sense of any pattern or structure when we have the ball and that's all on the manager and reflects his work on the training ground. And given Potter gives the squad a day or 2 off from training every week if anyone has downed tools it's Potter himself! 2 days off from training after Losing 1-0 at home to the bottom side in the league with a group of young players and then losing 2-0 to Spurs should have been a sackable offence alone.

I don't think anyone expects much from your posts. But "Players weren't performing throughout pre season" Might just be a new low.

I think it'll be funnier seeing how you blame the next manager from his first bad result if he isn't English. Very strange to suggest the players didn't perform under Tuchel given what they achieved with him but the few people who remain in denial over how poor a job Potter has done do tend to be very strange blokes.

Fantastic post particularly this paragraph There's never been an excuse for how poorly Potter has done. A lot of managers have came in mid season this year and he's had more time than all of them except Gary O'neill. Infact here's a table that has been doing the rounds comparing managers that have taken over a club mid season this year compared to his predecessor. No surprises for which incoming manager has had the worst impact on his sides season. Apparently now the problem is Potter was given £300m worth of top talent in the window so he can't be expected to do as well as managers that have inherited squads around the relegation zone and had no money to spend. The excuses are so bad now even Arteta is coming out saying he shouldn't be compared to this fraud and he has a point, I don't know why people are imagining Arteta was anywhere near this bad. Arteta has lost 3 consecutive games once in his managerial career. We've done it 3 times since Potter took over and I think it's massively insulting to managers like Arteta and Klopp for Graham to come out in press conferences and pretend they performed as poorly as he has.

I'm not Auba's biggest fan but I think it's ridiculous saying Potter doesn't have a striker when he's leaving Auba out of the CL squad for an injured 6th choice winger in Pulisic and a Ziyech that had gone to Paris. Coupled with taking Fofana off after a promising 1st half against Southampton to play Mount up front and the fact not one striker in Potters entire managerial career has looked good under him I think it's more of a case Potter doesn't know how to use a striker rather than the players being the primary issue.

Even if we won all 14 league games (we won't) I'd still sack Potter in the summer though really he should go now. In each of his 3 seasons at Brighton he went 10+ league games without a win, he's got 2 wins in 16 games here. 1 in our last 11. Brighton supporters mostly wanted him sacked last season after he went 13 games in all competitions without winning, then the media praised him after they went 7 games undefeated (mostly draws) and then they lost 5 straight league games. Good managers aren't streaky. It really doesn't matter how good you are for 70% of the season if you go on 2-3 month runs were you simply can't win a game or score a goal and Potter has unfortunately not been able to prevent those runs or turn them around quickly in any of the last 4 years, us winning a few end of season dead rubbers wouldn't change that. We've invested so much in the squad and it will have all been a waste without an elite coach or an extremely promising young manager and Potter is neither.

BlueCo buy Chelsea FC
I think a lot of the 4-4-3 and draft talk are said in Jest. but Potter only came in after the summer window had closed and we were in such a mess by January Ronaldo would have rejected us. And it's very hard to imagine Ronaldo being willing to play for any team managed by Graham Potter given he's clearly obsessed with his individual goal tally more than anything else and Potter teams don't score goals. I definitely think with a weaker manager we could have seen Ronaldo join us in the summer and it seems something Boehly would personally push for there was certainly something with Mendes and Ronaldo apparently was under the impression we were an option in the summer.

How many pints do you have on game day?
I suspect the number is creeping up for most the longer Potter is here.

Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager
I think that's a logical assumption But if Boehly was logical when we were hiring a new manager Potter wouldn't have been on a 20 man shortlist. The whole process of bringing in Potter immediately on massive money as soon as the window closed before a director of football was even in place was just rotten. So while there may be performance clauses it wouldn't surprise me it they're massive bonuses if Potter gets us 4th rather than penalising his failure.

It already has. The writing has been on the wall for Potter for quite some time. He's been a poor tactician and not had a winning mentality his entire managerial career in English football. There's never even been a sign There's any potential of a great manager in Potter.

Who takes over from Potter if he goes?
Your point hasn't been misinterpreted at all it's simply laughable. It only makes a shred of sense if your measure of a managers ability to coach football teams is solely based on passing triangles or midfield patterns but the game consists of both attack and defence and management hinges on the balance between them. Mourinho is or at least was one of the best defensive coaches in the history of the game, you don't win champions leagues with teams like Inter and Porto or set records for clean sheets, not conceding goals and undefeated runs just because you have a winning mentality. Maybe the game has moved on now but the idea that Mourinho wasn't an elite tactician is completely indefensible to the point I genuinely can't believe someone would debate it.
