Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager
Incidentally Everton just hired a manager with a better resume than Potter and Southampton just sacked one with a better record than Graham had at Brighton as well. They say a good manager can get his team over the line when they're not playing well so surely there's only one way to describe a manager who has found a way to consistently lose regardless of if his team performs well or performs poorly for years now.

With a new manager in the 2nd leg I'd back us to go through. Both our CL wins came with a mid season managerial chance. Could we make it a Hattrick?

So are RLC, Ziyech and Havertz When it's late in a knockout tie and we're desperate for a goal I know who I'd back. Just read with todays blank Potter has the lowest goals per game of any Chelsea manager in the clubs history. Having RLC and Ziyech on the pitch when we're chasing a game will do that.

I don't rate Auba but how Potter can name a CL without a striker and leave out his only established striker should be a sackable offence. No wonder none of the 3 teams he's coached in English football have been able to buy a goal. When you have chance after chance and the best finisher at the club isn't in the squad it's on the manager.

If Brighton are any example then sacking the manager would do the trick

They call the 2nd half the managers half. Bit concerning we get worse performances and worse results in every 2nd half we play while having deeper squads than nearly all our opponents.

We've been ok today. But if there's one skill Potter has shown over the last decade it's being able to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory. Potters teams regularly lose when they play well. He's like the reverse Sir Alex

£800m spent since we won the CL 18 months ago and we're starting Ziyech, RLC, Havertz up front, Kepa and Koulibaly in a champions league knockout tie. What an awful 18 months it's been for us. Hopefully today is a glimmer of light.

Tuchel came with a great record and won as many games in his first month as Potter has in his first 5 Lots of supporters were upset with a legend like Lamps going but Tuchel quickly endeared himself to most if not all Chelsea supporters. Both with the football we saw on the pitch and the things he said he really felt like he got the club. The fact that Potter hasn't done the same in half a year reflects more on him than the supporters.

The manager is the single most important position at the football club, he's the face of the club, the spokesman and the primary driver of results. nothing else at the club matters in the short term if the wrong man is in charge and there is every indication we have the wrong man. What's tedious is people still trying to absolve Potter of blame on a weekly basis or make up reasons why it's Tuchels fault 6 months after Tuchel left and no signs of improvement from the manager. I'm not sure you know how to use a forum though if you don't think Potters name should be mentioned in a Potter thread or a match day thread given his tactics and decisions define the match.

It's funny how the Potter stans always cherry pick the worst results under Tuchels tenure and compare them to the average results under Potter. Even this season we had 10 points from 6 games under Tuchel. Not great, a little disappointing but we were above Liverpool, above Newcastle, only 2 points behind United. Above Fulham and Brentford who have also passed us. Since Potter came in we're 15th in terms of points per game under him. Tuchel has never had a 14 game run in his entire career were his team only won 2 games or they were as goal shy as we are now. Saying we weren't performing well at the End of Tuchels time is fair enough but anyone pretending we haven't significantly regressed under Potter is simply not telling the truth.

Eddie Howe didn't get a chance at a bigger team. When Newcastle hired him they were bottom of the league having won 0 of them first 11 games last season before Howe came in they were certain for relegation Newcastle are were they are because of their improvement under Eddie Howe which was pretty much instant he drastically improved them overnight without a single transfer and that improvement continued as he added players to the squad He's the complete opposite to Potter who joined a well established top club and has seen results and performances deteriorate under his tenure. If Howe had done nearly as poorly as Potter has here Newcastle would be in the championship now.

Think it's pretty clear Boehly is an idiot. Even if you want to Pretend Potter did a particularly good job at Brighton or you want to imagine he really is a promising young manager despite him being 47 and absolutely nothing in his career suggesting he could be a top manager Giving him a 5 year £12m a season contract is beyond stupid, it's a ridiculous contract offer to someone with Potters resume honestly one of the most mind-boggling contracts in sport.

I don't think comparing Potter to Avram Grant is anywhere near as bad as comparing Potter to an actual young talented manager like Villas Boas Obviously it didn't work out for Andre here but I remember I had the highest expectations and excitement for him. At 32 he'd already achieved more than 47 year old Potter has in his career and had just come from managing the best season in the history of the Portugese league while also winning the Europa league. He won 85% of his games the previous season with Porto to put it into perspective Villas Boas won more games in 1 season at Porto than Potter did in 3 and a half years at Brighton. I think with a bit more experience in dealing with big players and a more diplomatic approach to phasing out the old guard Andre could have been a top manager here. I don't think Potter did a particularly good job at Brighton and he's shown absolutely nothing to suggest he should be managing a club of our stature.

Any of Poch, Zidane, Mourinho, Brendan Rodgers, Enrique, Tuchel, Ancelotti, Unai Emery, Klopp, Pep, Flick, Bielsa, Dyche, Big Sam, Lopetegui, Simeone, Pellegrini, Gallardo, Villas boas, Fat Rafa, Favre, Some of the those names seem like jokes, some are rightfully unemployed, do you klmow what they all have in common? They're all indisputably better managers with better resumes and more successful than Graham Potter. I Don't buy the idea we can't replace Potter when no one is avaliable because there are 40-50 easily obtainable better managers than Potter it really isn't hard to find an upgrade on a guy who wins 1 game a month over the last 4 years and his career highlight is once finishing 9th. Nkunku won't help, Mbappe, Messi, Neymar and Haaland wouldn't help. we already have enough fire power to score a goals what we don't have is a manager that's capable of getting goals out of any team.

West Ham v Chelsea (PL) Sat 11th Feb 2023 12:30 GMT
Why would anyone expect us to get an apology or act like the ref made the wrong decision? Potter said it's all good so the matter is closed, Dull Graham probably called up PLGMOL and apologised on behalf of the squad for Enzo calling for a handball.

Southampton have just sacked Nathan jones after 14 games in charge with him winning 5 of them. We have 3 wins in our last 14 games under Potter. A couple of weeks ago me and a mate agreed Potter was the 16th best manager in the league, 3 of the 4 managers we had below him have since been sacked. It's absolutely ridiculous clubs like Southampton and Spurs with Nuno have higher standards than us while some people want the worst manager with the worst results and worst resume we've hired in decades to have years with the biggest budget the sport has ever seen. People talk about long term projects but they require the right man, If Potter was a graduate (Putting that much valued psychology degree to good use) in any other industry he'd have been sacked by now because it's clear he's just nowhere near qualified for the job.

I don't think anyone expected instant results this is a long term project. The problem is Potter has brought the instant results that have been typical of his career. The results are just regular defeats and boring draws instead of wins. The CL is our last chance to salvage this season and for me Potter doesn't deserve to be in charge for it.

Potter came in. benched Cucu and played him at CB so he could play Sterling at LWB and decapitated 2 of our new signings instantly. Cucu hasn't been good but I find it hard to place blame on individual players when I think at best we have the 17th best manager in the league

The strange thing is Tuchel didn't need to be involved in transfers, Potter wasn't involved in transfers and we've brought in a team of people to specifically handle the recruitment side so I'm really not sure why we'd choose to sack a top coach for a poor one. It's because increasingly clear Potter didn't do a good job at Brighton, their success has came from their recruitment not Potters coaching, Burn, White, Cucurella, Caciedo, Trossard, Sanches have all moved to or been linked with top clubs, Mcallister has shined with Argentina, Mitoma who Potter wouldn't use is shining now. Brightons Talent ID and recruitment has been great but the Potter wasn't doing a particularly good job at getting the most out of that talent as he could barely get a goal a game out of them. We've made good positive changes to our recruitment side since Boehly came in but sacking a manager with a record of getting the most out of his players and being tactically sound in big games and replacing him with some lower midtable charisma vacuum isa very strange decision.

Mykhailo Mudryk signs for Chelsea
he's being badly misused, he's so direct and skillful yet we play the most uninteresting slow side to side football with Mudryk getting no support from his fullback to give him space to drive. Feel like Mudryk will be begging to be drafted to the Eastern front if he spends another month or two being coached by Potter who's ruining him game by game.

A game a month if we're lucky. Not looking forward to us going on one of Potters regular 3 month winless runs but I suppose the bright side is Potters teams win so rarely you're already a third of the way through it before it starts disappointing you.

Massively disrespectful to Moyes. Potter has never been in Moyes class, he's more Roy Hodgson at Liverpool 2.0

I don't think that washes though as we don't have too many poor players despite having a lot of poor performances. A managers job isn't to win games, score goals or keep clean sheets they're all consequences of what his real job is and that is to bring out the best possible performances from the talent at his disposal the idea being if he does that then positive results will follow. Pretty much every game we go into we go in with a more talented squad and better individuals than our opponents but is there a single player in the squad that's playing at a higher level under Potter than they were previously or any sense we've outwitted our opponents tactically? As much as people criticise certain players our squad is much better than 2 wins in 13 PL games Potter isn't getting the best out of it.
