Agreed those years first with Hoddle, Gullitt, Vialli, remain some of my happiest, especially as i first starting taking my son then. If Matthew had lived we might have been very different, if he had won the power struggle over Bates. Would it have made a difference in the overall scheme of things i am not sure. Benfield's had money but not the numbers that the Sky deal brought in through Roman and various others, Walker, John Hall, etc.
Nobody can predict the future nor can we repaint the past.
I am not enjoying this at the moment, but in reality it is only the constant foot in the mouth approach from Boehly constantly setting us up for the laughing stock thatt pi$$e$ me off. We will get the right manager ultimately and we will turn it around on the pitch. That i have no doubt of. We might not all like the method in which it happens, who leaves, who comes in.
One thing every Chelsea fan should be agreed on, is that every owner that we have had has had the best interests of the club at heart. This guy is new and we may not yet feel that his intentions are totally altruistic but i suspect, i hope that he is desparate for us as a club to be massively successful both on and off the pitch, in the same way that Roman wanted us to be a european power.

    Let's hire the Grimsby manager.
He'll know how to beat the teams below us 🤣

    Well it's official:
Grimsby and Sheffield United are better than us.

I have yet to hear a passionate "Graham at the wheel," comment.
Probably because he's crashed into an ice berg already.

Potter had his own pre-season just before the season restart post WC, apart from Kovacic and Ziyech the rest WC cups came back early. If my memory was correct, we had 45 minutes of decent football against Bouremouth, second half they changed shape and lifted their game and ended up scoreless. Then we had a draw against Forest, and the ordinary runs continued. It's really convenient he left that out, and kept going about the Pre-season 6 months ago. Having a crack at Tuchel to justify Potter's failure is just bizare, despite how awful and Tuchel was, his team finished way above Potter's team, and scored more goals. It must be exhausting to defend Potter, the standard drops from top 4 hopeful to stay away  from relegation battle in about 6 months, and somehow it's OK because the data says it's all part of a process. A process to what, exactly?

Scott you make a lot of sensible points but hear me out.
When we were sh*t, we were proper Chelsea, proper London club and them days were the best. So what if we won so much within the past 20 years, you never experienced or maybe you did and have forgotten the sh*t days. Oh boy those days were sure fun. And the respect other teams will even give us for being a proper club that allows managers time. I mean the most any manager got under Roman was about 3 years or so. Before that we had John Neal who did 4 years in 81. But let's just pretend so the oppos don't know between then and when Roman bought the club we had managers in charge for even less than 2 years. Ssshhhhhh. Hush hush.
People don't even know our history, we once had a manager that stayed as long as klopp now has with pool in the 60s. Dave Sexton even delivered us FA cup in 70 and euro cup winners in 71. Fruits of stability. We need to reconnect to them good ol days.
All we need is stability. The manager is  a bright young manager, only 47 years old that one. He needs to be supported and given the time to work his magic. He never had pre season, there are too many players trying to integrate into the team, he needs to give everyone a chance so moving things around a lot. Can you not remember how his Brighton even beat big teams like city, United and Chelsea?
Remember we poached him from a club that were even above us in the league so we should be lucky he even came to us.

It's such a load of sh*t that people keep bringing up the old days when we complain about the state we are in. All of this "where were you when we were sh*t"........you always bring that sh*t out as deflection tactic. Nobody should be looked down on as a fan just because they want the best for their club. They aren't any less of a fan of the club because they want and demand better than this and you're no more of a fan because you lived through experiences we never did. Thankfully, the club in the past 20 years hasn't followed that way of thinking because if they had, we would never have had Mourinho, we would never have won league titles and Champions League titles. I'll always be there through the tough times, but I will never just sit back and not demand better when we are underperforming.

Unfortunately Scott football fans have changed over the years.

Your die hards are being priced out and the casuals/day trippers are in but that's no surprise.

At the same time I saw our fans trying to get the lads going but when the team is performing like they are it deflates everyone.
Me personally I wasn't convinced about Potter's appointment but I am now convinced he is not the guy and probably never will be.
I hoped he could show me something that justified his appointment but all I see is a person who is lost and that has transmitted to the players too.

It's not just a case of a striker scoring our chances but somebody strong who can hold the ball up, go toe to toe with defenders and create space for others.
Unfortunately Havertz is incapable of doing any of those things.
He makes Morata look like Costa.
