  1. From Sky Sports: Chelsea have announced that Ron Gourlay is to succeed Peter Kenyon as the club's new chief executive. The Blues were informed of Kenyon's decision to step down from the role on Wednesday. He will remain in the post until the end of the October, but will then make way for the new man. Gourlay has been working as Chelsea's chief operating officer but is delighted to have been offered the opportunity to step into Kenyon's shoes. "It is a huge honour to be offered the chance to lead Chelsea," he told the club's official website. "We have a fantastic team both on and off the field and those teams can move us on to even greater success in the future. "To be responsible for that is a fantastic challenge and I will be giving it my total commitment, drive and energy. "All successful clubs strike the balance between the footballing and commercial sides and my role is to ensure this happens as it is a critical part of our strategy moving forward."
  2. From what we've seen of him so far, Drogba's general attitude does seem to have improved vastly since his low points of last season. Let's hope he dosen't revert to his old form when the going get's tougher, as it inevitably will. I'll certainly welcome his return to the Euro games, as Anelka has started to gel nicely as part of a duo, and looks a bit lost at times in Drogs absence
  3. Likewise; Nat King Cole was at 'Number One' on the night I was was born, with 'Yes tonight Josephine' -which ironically is my mother's name. Defining albums for me have to be: Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd Some Girls- the Stones
  4. Doug Rougvie? ROBERT FLECK? - Roberta Flack scored more often
  5. Threepenny bits? ; they were a strange brass colour and had (i think) twelve sides - 50p coin style. The originals were silver, like a small sixpence and were known as 'Joeys' Don't forget there were halfpennnies and farthings too - not old enough to remember farthings, but found they'd been slipped into my change on occasion, long after they were no longer legal tender; had a wren on the back. 480 halfpennies (pronounced 'hape-nee') to a pound 960 Farthings Dead easy to remember! (?) If you think your pocket feels heavy these days, when you get coins on changing up a tenner; in those days it could take the pocket out of your trousers!
  6. Surely you mean 'Tangerine and Graphite'? - crap shirt though.
  7. 'Porky' by todays athletic standards- 'Well Built' as per those days, regardless, he was a stalwart defender who could come up front when needed - as Leeds found to their cost. Genuine Chelsea legend.
  8. He was 50% less likely to get penalised in 'handball' shouts!
  9. To those well aquainted with the live game, it may well have been 'boring', granted. But at 13 it cemented my faith in the Blues. The atmosphere was pretty good for my first visit to the Shed. Glad I didn't leave it till the next game in the competition!
  10. David Webb, Borota, ...Andy Townsend from any angle. As for those with comments about Mr Ribery; please- the bloke was involved in a car accident as a child! how can you be so mean.
  11. Doni! ... steady on mate. easy to react to dross about Osgood etc. I know - but this bloke is not worth it. Regardless of your nationality (Scicilian?) Please remember that England lost Taylor and Edwards- potential World Cup winners, not to mention the others whose loss was just as tragic. A terrible event when many people lost their lives on a night which was a loss for football in general.
  12. 'Wow, this guy was only a member for 10 minutes!' A bit like QPR's history in the top flight; shame, it would be nice to meet up with 'Steptoe & Son's' relatives more often
  13. Know what you mean Geezer; we try to imagine it's not there. I'm from Borehamwood originally, which is close to Barnet, but we don't like to mention them either. Family originate from West London, Dad North Kensington, Mum Paddington - they 'escaped' in the early fifties to the grandeur of Hertfordshire. Went through hell at school as most from B/wood follow the Arse or Spuds, but not those of us with any class or charisma.
  14. Chelsea V Jeunesse Hautcharage on a freezing cold evening in 1971; I'd been saving my pocket money for some considerable time and wanted to pick a game that would be memorable, no chance of a defeat. As we'd won the away leg 8-0, i thought we might just scrape it. So my first visit to the Bridge was at dusk, perhaps not the best way to see it. But as we all know now, it went down in history- we won 13-0. still remember, one of their players was a bloke with one arm, and I'm sure that one of their reserves came on still wearing his glasses! though I may have imagined this. Great night just the same, but bloody cold. Having created this record 21-0 score against lowly opposition, we returned to form in the next round and lost on away goals to Scandanavian part timers Advitabergs.
  15. Dosen't the 'Cole-arado' go through the 'Grand Kenyon'?
  16. Apologies 'Mod'; I didn't mean the entire population of Essex follow united (Manchester not Colchester), but you get my drift. Perhaps he's from Cornwall (no West Country rebukes please!)
  17. First day on this site; looks good - been a Chelsea fan since about 1963, had many a horseburger on the Fulham Road, silk scarf a bit faded and violet coloured now. Last 12 years have been a real joy as a true blue; long may our form continue!
  18. ....have you seen house prices in Highbury lately?
  19. Borota must hold the record for time outside the penalty box; there were times when he almost doubled as a midfielder; I remember nearly needing a change of underwear on a few occasions! - great character, but wreckless to say the least.
  20. Strange how whenever the residence question comes up with United 'fans', they all seem to 'come from Salford' ..........seems to be the stock answer with the population of Essex. Still, good luck to Man u; I've a feeling they'll be needing it this year, and no doubt that's why the idiot in question made the inane posting - our form being so poor thus far. Oh, and good luck to Colchester United too, mate.
  21. Defoe to score first ;) equaliser by half time - rampant in second half - 4-1 final score. Keane to get sent off at some point
  22. ..Bring back Dickie Attenborough as Chief Exec! Kenyon the journeyman looking for 'one more challenge'? How about our friends from Yorkshire? ;)
  23. Nice to still have a 'barnet' at a certain age! - nice to see Hutch and Osgood remembered, as you would expect; even nicer to see 'Nobby' Houseman - I can rememebr a time when certain sections of the home crowd would get on his back, never did understand that; one of Chelsea's greatest unsung heroes in my opinion ;)
