Watching the game today I noticed that I was witnessing the lesser spotted Drogba, last seen several seasons ago terrorising defences up and down the country.

I know its only one game, but today he looked like he was completely focused. There wasnt any sign of his "balance deficiency" he's been plagued by in the past. It wasnt his most vintage of games, but on that performance alone I'm very optimistic about the season ahead. When he's on his game here are few who can touch him.

Keep it up big man. B)

I do believe today is the first game I've never seen Drogs roll about at least once. Indeed he didn't even go down looking for free kicks when there was many an occasion the old DD would have collapsed. He's gonna be the man this season (even if he should have had a hat-trick today).

I reckon he'll be immense this season and be a total player, he needs to keep his shirt on though, stupid bookings really piss me off

i think the biggest factor is simply that he is fit. the last time he had a full pre-season was 0607 when he went on to be dynamite for the whole campaign. his touch and sharpness was lacking a bit today but that will come.

if he stays fit there is no reason why he shouldnt score 30 in all comps this season

He loses the ball in good areas quite often and his decision making is still questionable. All that said, I hope he gets 30 goals this season. That might well win us the league.

I agree with everything you said there, except I reckon he could get 30 in the Prem alone (only a mere 28 to go!). I don't think Lamps's freekicks had much variety last season, so hopefully Drogs will be elbowing him out of the way more often and also upsetting Ballack again!

i agree, though i think he also needs to feel as though hes the main man. when scolari pissed him about a bit he sulked, carlo backs him and he fires. its no coincedence. im not happy with that but its the way he is. on his day hes unplayable, but hes still an annoying sod. im just glad hes our annoying sod,

he was quality, but he didn't look much different from the striker that played under guus...he has been happy ever since that grandad scolari has gone and he has started this season fully fit (touch wood he stays that way) and with his future finally sorted out...happy days

Yep, agree with all the above. He didn't even play near his best and still grabbed two goals and generally made a nuisance of himself.

Promising stuff and he looks happy and settled, which is a big plus.

I mentioned before the start of the season that he was injury free, and sounded up for it.

If he stays fit and healthy, he'll be WELL up there in the scoring charts. No doubt.

i was really really impressed too, i know its only been one game, im just interested to see what heppens when we havea a bad day at the office and he doesnt get much service... will he become petulant? but for now, well done didi, you are the man.

I don't think there is any issue with Drogba moaning about lack of service. That isn't something we have had a problem with before. There are a numberof things Drogba has been criticised for in the past but I dopn't think anyone can criticise his effort and attitude during the 90 minutes of a game. There have been many game where we have played poorly and he has kept plugging away and also plenty of games where he has saved us from a poor performance with a winning goal.

Now JFH that is another matter...

In the last 2 games Drogba has been outstanding , his work rate is better than any other centre forward i can think of . Everything about his all round game should give him more recognition as a footballer although in all fairness to Shearer on MOTD , he did pay him big compliments, i just dont think his class and ability is recognised enough and that includes a few here. I've many times come on here and witnessed him being torn apart when he has a bad game, terrorised by certain people because he wasnt his usual world class self. I rememember after the UTD game away last season how he was treated and abused here by a lot of people , it was a disgrace how he was treated here considering some of the performances he's put in for us. Some maybe lost faith in him, were angry by his attitude but failed to realise how he was being handled by Scolari. I will always have time for Drogba , even after he leaves us and in this household he will be up there with Ossie, Zola, J.T. and Lamps . The man is a legend as far as im concerned.

to be fair, most people have never questioned how he was on the pitch, any time ive got pissed with him its always been about the way he treat the club and the fans in the media and off the field. and as far as im concerend ( i cant and wont speak for others) im not who can forgive anything he does when hes playing brilliantly. hes still an arsehole no matter how well he plays.

What should make him even better this season is the fact that we are playing with two genuine strikers.

I think it was no coincidence that Drogba's best season far and away was when Mourinho partnered him with Sheva up front - and Sheva was a liability.

Drogba is a very good player when he is up front on his own. When he has a strike partner (and the opposition don't have the luxury of being able to double-mark him), he has the potential to be unstoppable.

On his day DD is the best centre forward in the world, he's unplayerble at times. He leads the line, holds up the ball, brings others into the game, creates and scores goals from nothing and is an excellent defender at set pieces.

We need an on form DD if we are going to win the prem this season and he's started very well, long may it continue.

I have to say it does worry, given his injury problems, how we will cope if he gets injured, but he looks fully fit for now and seriously fired up, so long may it continue.

Having, say...an Aguero, to step in should he get hurt (and for the ACN) wouldn't hurt though.

Does anyone hear a broken record?
