Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea
How most decide what in today’s football is a “ good keeper” is as we know a country mile away from those who occupied the position 10-20 or even 3 year’s ago. If you are being honest I bet no one could rate keepers at the time the back pass rule was introduced in terms of how they dealt with the change. Indeed most I seem to remember just lumped the ball forward. Now keepers are expected to not only be a shot stopper but they are required to be a sweeper, provide the angle to try and deal with a press ,and deal with balls that “ move” significantly. The disallowed Palace goal wasn’t an example of a go mistake indeed the wall and those players placed alongside would almost certainly have dealt with the free kick if there hadn’t been an infringement. The WHU goal moved significantly once it was struck indeed it’s what this new Nike ball is designed to do. I have been surprised how poor some of the other clubs keepers have been blamed already but watch the outfield players who are struggling to deal with the balls movement. Sanchez isn’t WC, he isn’t close to it, but the fact he seems to have been given license to try and drop the ball behind a high opposition defensive line is interesting and yes it might give up possession but in areas where he is far less likely to be bought into immediate action

West Ham United vs Chelsea (PL) Friday 22nd August 20:00 GMT
I put the slow start down to the players adjusting to a change to the fact that the plan / set up was abandoned due to Palmers withdraw. Delap is a throwback of a player leading the line. He bullied their CDs who simply didn’t have the strength or guile to deal with him. In terms of changes to a large degree for the players like Fofana aren’t just returning following an injury they are going through their pre season. I never played at a high level but nice we had a lead that wasn’t going to be overturned it gets very difficult to keep the same level of intensity.

Carney Chukwuemeka
I am pretty sure it was a 6 year deal indeed both Transfermarket, yes Transfermarket, say it was a 6 year deal as does wiki Also it’s now being stated elsewhere it is £25 m up front Here’s wiki “On 2 August 2022, Aston Villa and Chelsea confirmed that the clubs had reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Chukwuemeka, subject to the player agreeing personal terms and undergoing a medical.[12][13] On 4 August 2022, Chelsea announced the signing of Chukwuemeka on a six-year contract.

Carney Chukwuemeka
It seems madness but he is now into the 4th year of his 6 year contract. As I keep banging on about how questionable Transfermarket is but they have his fee from Villa being €18 m so on their numbers that’s circa €11 million accounting profit not a lot but as Tesco declares “ Every little helps” I too liked what I saw when he did play but I think you are right about his ability to perform in the PL.

Renato Veiga
This all comes back to what the sanctions agreement actually says. Neither Felix nor Veiga were on the January A list so some have come to the conclusion that their leaving won’t count. As I pointed out there are several interpretations as to how the agreement will impact .

Andrey Santos Signs for Chelsea
Morning. We thought we , Chelsea, are a soap opera, just watching the Isak saga on Sky news! I actually think it’s only a matter of time till Santos becomes first choice. I very very much doubt that Fernandez will want to stay around. Far from my favourite player so I have to be objective but I don’t see any improvement of note in him

Meant to say it could be argued that the push meant that at the point the free kick was taken Cacedio had joined the wall ( look at his right foot)

IFAB don’t actually define what a “wall ” is in terms of proximity but three defenders have to be in one !

I can remember when the rule was introduced and normally the ref will tell the players that the6 can’t be within 1 metre . In this instance the ref missed the potential so play just carried on. The key also is that there in this instance was in effect two walls ( only called a wall if 3 players are together) . Irrespective there was a foul as well so to be fair it being disallowed was correct

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace (PL) Sunday 17th August 14:00 GMT
We arrived at SB at 12-40. The new digital ticket system went “ down “ and hundreds/ thousands had to seek assistance. Thankfully it came back on line in time for all to get in. The unveiling happened at 1-45pm and was a couple of banners . Yawn! First off the Palace team were very well set up and save the free kick which was disallowed correctly, Palace offered very little going forward. They clearly were further advanced in their preparation and hugely benefited from having very close to their 24/25 team. Defensively we were sound, Sanchez was fine, did you notice how many long ball clearances , so were the back four. Our midfield wasn’t firing at all which in effect made our “ forwards” look toothless. Things changed when the subs came on to a degree and our best chances were in the last 1/4 The referee rightly was sent to the screen. Where we were sat you could see the infringement it’s just amazing that it wasn’t seen on field. The Estaveo challenge was on the opposite side so couldn’t see it and don’t Intend to watch the highlights. Never do unless we win! For me this was two teams one that was was happy with the point before kick off the other who had the clearer cut chances

Following Our Nearest And Dearest Rivals 2025/26
Without better defensive cover from midfield Liverpool’s back four will be exposed by clubs with pace that’s for sure. They got away with on rep last night that’s for sure . As for Bournemouth they look short . Did well to get back to 2-2 but no real options from the bench. As for Petrovich looked anything but top quality. Did bread and butter stuff okay but positioning for me was suspect We said that during the game.

? I am stating what others have said because it is a gesture that has put the club via the players in an incredibly good light. Well meaning and human gestures aren’t always about charity ironically we tend to hear very little about clubs charitable works / contributions. In terms of Public Realtions are you saying this hasn’t been well received? Did the players make the donations to claim plaudits ?

BlueCo buy Chelsea FC
This rumour doesn’t seem to go away. Indeed it’s something that reared its head last year and it was suggested that they were happy to sign a smaller multi year deal last season Riyad Air is as we know financed by Saudi ( PIF ) and already is a main sponsor of A Madrid both FOS and stadium. They also are owners of Newcastle Utd so I wonder would be a complication at PL headquarters. We all know how sensitive they are in such matters! If and a big if this is agreed it’s worth noting that there is an upcoming event in that Riyad air will be making its first commercial flight in the next couple of months . One last point is that this is the last season where a FOS sponsor can be a betting Company and I believe as many a 10 clubs will have to negotiate new deals for season 26/7 On that point clubs are forbidden to have betting logos on players under aged under 18 yet youth replica shirts at say Everton allow them .

Positive PR, and this is what this gesture has lead to, would never be kept it appears the players themselves approached the club and the club because of processing the payments had to be involved. What we do see know is how the players on long term contracts get massively rewarded for success. Those lower wages will have led to other 24/25 bonuses both for CL qualification and indeed smaller sums for the EL conference.

I thought it was realistic to have a sponsor in place for the start of the 25 /6 season however unless something pops up over the next two days that won’t be the case. There was an update from an industry expert ( supposedly)on 1/8, which I can’t now find, stating that the club had narrowed down the numbers down to three companies one of which was a Middle Eastern company. It was suggested that the three came from Riyadh air, Oman Air, Turkish air, a technology company from Vietnam and an US company. I still think it will be Riyadh Air
