  1. On a level where you are just colleagues in a workplace and talk about stuff I think the new owners go around talking to people and every day you go around you hear this that and another thing that is very plainly obvious culture of the place. You start to identify people and things that are keeping up the culture and seem strong about it. Now this starts to conflict with the broader idea of the plan you want to instill in your new club. Talk openly about it inside the club and conflicts start to arise. Some people you need to move on and others you lose when they want to leave. Tuchel was pretty public case on this. The rock starts to roll (no pun intended) and you find yourself in a situation where you have replaced most of the staff. The players essentially are much easier to move so to say as moving players is very normal to top level sports. In their big plan the slashing of the salary bills was clearly one aim. One good way of doing is to invest in young players and when you are buying young players you have the potential of selling them on for a good fee. They did that. This actually started only when we hired the team of directors. People have laughed about the size of the squad, transfer fees and contract lengths. Now we need to reduce the size of the squad which is on as we are talking. Contract length is something that seems other clubs start to do as well. Okay not 7-9 years but it used to be 3-4 years and now 5-6 years looks normal in this summer window in the case of young players. Maybe we'll see other clubs doing that as well and the norm comes to be around 6-8 years or so. We also made a bold move on hiring Enzo Maresca. That looked weird choice and it has been rocky road but at this very moment people are looking at our club and starting to see the big picture and see us as a threat we used to be. Not sure who is laughing right now. Everyone's been super sceptical of the plan and pretty much everything is being scrutinized as it was when Roman took over. Now people are seeing positives of the decisions. Inside and outside. We just needed to be patient. Which is a word that was never associated with Chelsea FC under Roman especially. That word never was part of our DNA. We are still in a building phase and might dip back to something average because we are at such a delicate stage with such a young squad. Hopefully we go from strength to strength. Anyway I think it looks a bit optimistic right this moment.
  2. Problem is Veiga had no intentions to stay. I want a player that wants to stay so it is pretty simple choice from the two. Badiashile is our type defender. His problem is he's never been able to hold onto his place. I think he just needs a good long stretch of games. He has an eye for the line piercing pass which is crucial to our football but he's been suspect at defensive actions.
  3. Seems like we are going to bank with Veiga. I think he is the type of player we could use but he wanted a starting position in a team so why not then sell him. This is the type of buy our club will hopefully do in the future as well. Under the radar young player that we can move on if he doesn't fit in the team. We used to buy the Bakayoko that we can't move on. I don't think it hurts any young players future either. 1-2 years inside a massive club like ours.
  4. Funny how our transfer policy is under scrutiny and our contracts are laughed over. Liverpool just landed Ekitike on 90m deal with 6 year contract. 😅 Pioneers.
  5. On some of the 'money'/value tables that float around the internet Tottenham is above Chelsea and that has to be the reason why. For the stature of our club we are miles behind even our local rivals. But is moving to Earls Court still a problem because of Chelsea Pitch owners?
  6. A ton of talk of Cole winning the Ballon d'or. Personally I wouldn't care less of that award but if this season would win that the bar is low.
  7. I think the Prem is a different beast. Consistency is key. Young players in general lack of consistency. It would be ill-adviced to for example demand Enzo to deliver Prem for that reason alone. That is why 2-4th should be enough to keep his place as the coach. No one is saying it is impossible. We just gave bath to the best unit in the world. I personally think Liverpool, Arsenal and City have better chance of winning the Prem.
  8. They naturally go into the season trying to win every game, trying to win every cup game and every trophy. Absolutely. They have always done that because of the stature of the club. The difference is what the club thinks is enough that affects coaches and potentially players. Especially Maresca. I think top 4, Champions League group stage success and last 4 in one of the cups ensures he continues if the season otherwise goes without massive incidents. The game also has to progress to a positive direction and key individual players need to develop to a positive direction. I think hitting these marks should be enough for him to keep his place. What the style of the football is makes no difference on that as it shouldn't. I think Champions League is the curveball for this season. It will take so much out of the Premier League. It has always done. Last season we could rest the starting 11 in the UECL.
  9. I didn't see it either. Their communication needs to be a lot better for sure.
  10. To redevelop SB is much more expensive and they don't get all the bells and whistles they want in the compound such as Tottenham have done. I am pretty sure if possible they will go the Earls Court route. I have no say or opinion on that other than we need all the extra revenue we can get to be competitive with football. Not a match going fan so my option otherwise is not very valid. You guys who go to games know best.
  11. This pretty much confirms that and the fact they want to build something different than Roman. Which is fine.
  12. Matt Law confirmed in London is Blue -podcast that the club doesn't expect Premier League title. Idea is to maintain in the top 4 status. Internally players and Enzo could talk differently about it.
  13. Not sure why this acronym FOS created so much negativity among fans.
  14. Interesting player. Interesting to see what his future is with us. To me it is clear he is good enough for a top Chelsea side to either start or be among rotation of the squad. What is not clear is why he is always been sidelined by his numerous coaches over the years. He is 26 now, entered in his prime age, and to this day he's been more or less a pawn in the squad. It has to be his personality. Maybe he is too submissive against his own interests. Part of being a footballer as well. You need a bit of those elbows sometimes and timing in terms when to shine. I know next to nothing or the boy apart from being a perfect professional of a player. Big on his religion as well. I hope we keep hold of him but in this financial climate European football is, Chalobah is in a perfect shop window situation in terms of money. He is pure profit to Chelsea if we are to sell him. He was also excellent throughout CWC. I think those great stats will pop up to other clubs as well. I think people will look at him and see a top player like Guehi and make those connections between the two.
  15. Palmer is a leader type person in his own way and I am 100% sure he is the first to tell you if he scores 2 doesn't count for anything if the team loses. He put in a world class performance in the final by tracking back and harassing PSG players all game long by moving around the pitch.
  16. https://talksport.com/football/3378469/chelsea-todd-boehly-interview-enzo-maresca-club-world-cup-message/ 3 minute interview with Boehly.
  17. Cucurella is easily my worst humble pie player we've had. We paid that 68m or something crazy like that of him and it took over a year to find his groove. I am glad I was wrong. I thought we made the worst buy ever with him and saw nothing positive about him apart from the hair. Easily top 5 left back in Europe and top 3 in the Prem. If UB wants the lists I probably don't have them so don't take it literally 😉
  18. Was Rory Delap the long throw master back in the day?
  19. I know it is fun talking about getting a decision about a player or a formation right or wrong. Fact is the opponent usually has their own plan. If the plans contradict in a bad way for your team you basically have wasted the first half and realistically can make the change only at half time, depending on the magnitude of the change naturally. Re Real Betis game. Maresca always says he watches a lot of games by the opponent and tries to adapt to that with selections but still it is a coin toss basically. Against PSG the choice was probably easy as they have a clear style of play and they probably don't tinker that much. His victory was the way the team was prepared to come out running their socks off and implementing the plan in a perfect fashion. Tactics to me were secondary in this case although also that had to be spot on. Premier League is a different beast to a tournament like this. Longevity, the brain power of most clubs managers and the quality of players is on a different level. To make the players give all in a boring game before Champions League Wednesday is much more of a coaching problem than talking about double pivot or inverting fullbacks.
