Been a STH for 38 years so I've seen the whole City saga.

I remember Bell, Lee, Summerbee as a kid and missing out the title by one point back in 77 to Liverpool, but my favourite season was when Kevin Keegan got us promoted back in 2002; greatentertaining football, over 100 goals.

Oh dear. I opened this thread intending to answer that my favourite season was summer, because I swim a lot and laze around on the beach.

My favourite ever season was 1969/70, the year we first won the FA Cup against dirty Leeds. We had a great team back then, Bonetti, Harris, McCreadie, Hollins, Webb, Dempsey, Cooke, Hudson, Osgood, Hutchinson, Houseman, Baldwin, etc...Not only did we win the cup, we also finished 3rd in the league behind champions Everton, and dirty Leeds.

Then the following season, we went on to win the Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid, and so winning a European trophy before Liverpool ever did (no history, ya scouse w*nkers?) I seem to remember us beating Manchester City in the semi-final over two legs, and indeed I went to the first leg at the Bridge. City had a very good team back then too, Corrigan, Book, Pardoe, Doyle, Booth, Oakes, Summerbee, Bell, Lee, Bowyer, Bowles. I think Neil Young was still playing for City then, he must have got a transfer from Buffalo Springfield :P

i seem to remember City doing us 3-0 at the Bridge in the fa cup the following season? Revenge in the Cup Winners Cup semis though.

Yeah, sadly I was at that game. Colin Bell scored twice, the git. So much for our defence of the FA Cup!

I think we also had a league game at Maine Road squeezed in between the two ECWC games as well - ended up playing City five times that year

69/70 for me too. Although we won the League cup in '65 that was nappy fill compared to winning ther FA Cup which for me was the second biggest trophy in the world at the time behind the league championship. Even European games paled into insignificance against it

Pre circa 1970 most people regarded winning the FA Cup more important than winning the lleague! Strange, but true.

Look at most clubs record attendances; 90% are aFA Cup games.

City really were a powerful club back then. I'll always cringe at the memory of that 3-0 stuffing at home in 71 in the FAC. It made the ECWC SF win all the sweeter as it was pretty unexpected (by me, at least).

Pretty sure Corrigan missed the second leg, as I remember the City stand-in keeper scored an own goal!

As for favourite seasons, most Chelsea fans of my era have a special memory of 1983-4. I remember City beating us at home in the game that led to Dixon and Speedie's dressing room punch-up, and the Friday night televised away game at Maine Rd near the end of the season was a great occasion - for Chelsea fans, at least!

Yep Ron Healey I think.

Yep - great memory!

Semi-Final, 2nd Leg: Manchester City v Chelsea

Date: 28th April 1971

Venue: Maine Road

Attendance: 43663

Result: 0-1 (agg 0-2)

Scorers: Healey (og)

Manchester City: Ron Healey, Tony Book, David Connor, Tony Towers, George Heslop, Derek Jeffries, Mike Summerbee (Stephen Carter), Francis Lee, Ian Bowyer, Neil Young, Jeffrey Johnson (Willie Donachie)

Chelsea: John Phillips, Paddy Mulligan, Ron Harris, Charlie Cooke, John Dempsey, David Webb, Keith Weller, Alan Hudson, Derek Smethurst, Johnny Boyle, Peter Houseman

We were a bit depleted that night, but then again City hardly looked at their strongest, did they?

One of my earliest football memories was the Chelsea/Leeds replay 1970; a memorable game...... but we City fans were well pissed off as the TV schedule had the European Cup Winners Cup Final live that night; Man City v Gornik Zabreze which we won 2-1. It was cancelled & replaced by your game.

All we saw was a one line result banner after the FA cup final..... Manchester City 2 Gornik Zabreze 1 .... no TV goals, sod all!!

The two 0-1 results v Chelsea the following season in the semi really hurt.

What about the 5-0 in 99/00.... Even Sutton scored!

I always considered Jody Morris' goal the killer blow.

I'm a little younger than some here at 19; my favourite season was probably 1999/2000. Won the FA Cup and had a relatively strong, if inconsistent, league performance.

The 5-0 against United is the stand out result, though.

BTW does anyone remember us beating Manure at Old Trafford 4-0 could have been 1968 ?

I can remember that result coming up on the TV, could hardly believe it - after all, United had just won the European Cup a few months before. I was only about 11 at the time, so didn't get to away games outside London, but I was at the return fixture the following March where we beat them 3-2 - great game and atmosphere with a crowd of over 60,000.

Just checked the stats for the 4-0 at OT: -

24 August 1968

Division One

Manchester United 0 Chelsea 4 (h-t 0-3)

55,114

Utd: - Stepney, Kopel, Dunne, Crerand, Sadler, Stiles, Ryan, Kidd, Charlton, Burns, Best

Chelsea: - Bonetti, Harris, McCreadie, Hollins, Webb, Boyle, Baldwin, Tambling, Osgood, Birchenall, Houseman

Scorers: - Baldwin 2, Tambling, Birchenall

I'm younger than most here too at 20... but I'd probably go for 96/97. The FA Cup win was amazing and really it was the year that I really got into football and Chelsea, so it has a bit of special significance to me.

I never knew that. Obviously I remember you lot winning the ECWC that year as you were the holders when we knocked you out in 71, but that's the first I've ever heard about the games clashing. Gutting for you!

its funny how we all take for granted live TV coverage now, the BBC from what I remember didnt show our ECWC final match but showed the replay.
