TheWestwayWonder
wasnt this reported a few weeks ago, or was that just the contract offer? Either way, good news

mad_mac
Gppd stuff, I think mikel is one of those players that folk either love or hate. Anyway, I am glad to see that he's secured his future. Yeah it was reported that this contract was on the table a few weeks ago, now it's official that he's signed it
sexelk
fantastic. he is a player that i hope spends his career with us. hopefully ancelloti will exploit his attacking strengths and not just force a defensive game on him
High Street Ken
fantastic. he is a player that i hope spends his career with us. hopefully ancelloti will exploit his attacking strengths and not just force a defensive game on him I second that elk (didn't think I'd ever second an elk, let alone a sexelk, but we only live once). I'm also convinced that his accurate short-passing game and ability to retain ball in confined spaces, can be used to great effect further up the pitch. All we need is to attach an electrode to him, which delivers a 40,000 volt jolt to his nether regions, when the tiniest flicker of a thought of shooting bubbles up in his brain. Elliott
I think this season is crucial for him, as he really needs to up his game a notch further. If we see more of the same for another season, then i'm not sure he will ever be more than a squad player.
footiemadman007
Good to see a player of Mikel's quality committing himself to the club for another five-years.. Apparently, according to press reports, Inter (Jose) were after him, and the new contract raises his wage from 40k/week to 70k/week... (good pay-rise for him!) sals
very glad that he signed up. Carlo says he wants mikel to take a creative role this year which will be interesting to see how this affects his game
nofizzleforshizzle
I think this season is crucial for him, as he really needs to up his game a notch further. If we see more of the same for another season, then i'm not sure he will ever be more than a squad player. I think he has to make an effort to be more creative. If he sticks to what he's been doing, all he'll be is a poorer version of Essien.
mad_mac
Ok i know that he played a more advanced role for Nigeria, but I am slightly worried about him in a more advanced role. I'm not too sure about his creativity, but I do like his short range passing...but I feel he'd be better back in the holding role! Scott
Captain Haribo
I think talk of him being "creative" doesn't necessarily mean playing further forward. If Ancelotti is sticking by the diamond he used at Milan - as seems to be the case pre-season - Mikel could play at the base and the "creativity" could be encouraging him to play long passes, a la Pirlo.
