Phew...

Not a nice draw in the least for us in Madrid. Guess we'll have to let you guys and Porto fight it out for the second spot :P

Any questions re travel to Madrid, pubs, sights, flights, accomodation, stadium etc fire away... I'm an ST holder in the Calderon and have helped Aberdeen, Bolton and Liverpool fans over the last two seasons in getting the most out of their visits... (Normally advising on Beer and Tapas).

I'm originally from Kent (Dover) and New Zealand so the lingo's no problem although I have been here in Madrid for 8 years now so the latest slang may be a bit difficult ... Ole!

Cheers,

Angus

Full declaration: I run a tourism site about Madrid as a hobby that pays the season ticket and will sometimes answer questions by linking to pages there that have the info that answers your question. Madrid website

Nice bit of spamming! I will let it go this time.

Is that coz his name is Angus - not in the same caber tossing team as you is he?

On the off chance, do you know Penelope Cruz's address and telephone number or her e-mail perhaps?

Wow.. First time I've ever been accused of that. Don't want to get off on the wrong foot or anything but can assure you its not that. Realistically I don't need to do so, Put "Atletico madrid tickets" in goole and see what page comes up first. Thats solely due to the football fans who've used the site and mentioned it on forums etc and the fact I've written travel advice for football fans coming over in the Aberdeen and Bolton official programmes and the advice I give free was lifted by the British consulate in Madrid and is now given to all visiting fans of British clubs. I can assure you I only post here because when Brit teams come over I normally have a day off work and enjoy a day out (beers, banter and football) with the friends I've made online. Sorry, but I could quite easily come on here selling tickets or directing people to affiliate / ticket tout sites and thats something that goes wholly against my principals... as does spamming. Apologies for the rant but grrr, its something I hate and deal with via my sites :D

Ok, on to the questions:

Aguero, Yep, 60M€ is the clause.... It was said over here you made the offer but that it was too late. Ie we couldn't get a replacement in for him in time. We're pretty much resigned to losing him at the end of this year now.

Penelope Cruz, Nope, but I do know where the family and her sister live... They were the wifes next door neighbours for a long time. PC lives in LA...

Bobby Moores... If the mods give it the ok I can give details. (I don't want to tread on any toes)

Well I shall almost definitely be coming over for the game and not having been to Madrid before your advice would be most welcome. I know you don't deal in tickets but you must have an idea as to whether they'll be available? Cheers

Glad to see thats papered over... onwards and upwards then!

Ticketing:

You'll receive in the region of 4000 tickets "more or less" in the Fondo Norte far corner. Its split over two levels with pricing I expect to be around 70€ for the lower and 60€ for the upper tiers. If going the tout route expect to pay 40-50% more than face value IF you travel in numbers?

Normally tickets for home areas are touted in the bars at the opposite end of the ground. HOWEVER, for the Liverpool game the bars in the Paseo de Pontones we full of touts. These are the same bars that away fans should go to... (Both the Aberdeen and Bolton games saw nasty clashes when away fans went towards the Fondo sur bars). This means getting off the Metro at Puerta de Toledo and gently rolling doan the hill stopping in each bar for a beer and tapas (33cl bottles 1.50€, Litres in plastic glasses 5€).

TWO top tips for Madrid:

If you ignore everything else I say remember these two;

- Use the metro. Its clean and fast and costs €7,20 for ten trips which can see 10 people use the same ticket or 1 person ten times.

- WATCH YOUR WALLET - Pickpockets are out in force whenever brit football fans come over and get drunk. Its spoiled many a trip previously and last season I ended up having to translate for half a dozen liverpool fans who¡ld had their tickets lifted.

Forgot to add some Flight alternatives:

STN with RYR to Valladolid or Zaragoza then high speed train to Madrid (1 hr from each)

*** Thats it for today, Leave any questions / queries here or via PM and I'll answer every one of them tomorrow morning ***

I hope you pointed out the Liverpool fans who nicked 'em

Another ticket route....

just needs a little Spanish

Atletico supporters ticket marketplace

You would need to "Registrarte gratis" (top right hand corner)

and fill out the form

Nombre = name

contraseña = password

Pais = Country

Hombre / mujer = Male / Female

Fecha nacimiento = date of birth

As I said earlier, I don't get involved in these things so don't ask me to translate. If you do I'm likely to give you something along the lines of "Willing to pay 100€ for a night with a well endowed swarthy Spaniard"
