World Cup finals

Featured Replies

Does anyone actually think we've got a hope of winning the World Cup, coz I don't. Despite all the media fervour I don't think the team selection has been good enough and because of that I don't have any faith in Capello to deliver the goods.

I don't either. I said it in another thread.

Our goalkeeping options aren't good enough.

Our right back options aren't good enough

One of our centre halves is injury prone and unreliable.

Our holding midfield options give the ball away too cheaply

.

We only have one good striker.

Our wingers are inconsistent.

SO in other words, nowhere near good enough to win a world cup.

I think the friendly with Spain was the real indicator of our chances. We deservedly lost.

of course we have a chance, though it might be only a slim one. we will almost certainly get through the group stages, then its down to the luck of the draw. in a competition like this with so few matches luck can have a big part to play, and at the world cup i would rather have a lucky manager than a good one, and we seem to have a lucky one.

No. But nevertheless I will put money on England in the office betting pool, and lose it just like all the previous times I put my money on England. I do that purely because nobody else picks England, so if they do win, I make a bundle. :greysweat:

Make sure you wear your lucky knickers that day - the combination of lucky knickers and lucky manager might just swing it.

If England wins it next summer, it would be a huge surprise. If they get drawn into one of the tougher groups, I think they might not even make it into the knock out stages of the tournament.

Well, as Jose said in knockout competitions like these it wasn't/isn't always the best team that wins so you never know.

However, I hate that everytime England qualify the whole country is subjected to memories of '66 and then some half-celebrity re-hashing an old song with the term "come on England" in there.

As Loz said, I think think they have a chance, but I'm sure the media will say with Rooney, Gerrard, rio and Carragher in the team we've got a great chance. But I suppose that all depends whether Gerrard or Carragher could be bothered playing for their country!

I'll never forget England being put out of the Euros in 04, and Lampard missed a penalty (think he maybe had it saved), but so did Gerrard! You'd think Lampard had just stabbed every English person in the back and was personally responsible for England losing.

Good luck to you, but I think it'll be quarter finals at best
