Just moved to the Turkish league (Besiktas) - the graveyard of footballing careers.

Still can't believe there was people who thought we should have signed him on a permanent basis.

Quite sad for the bloke, I know he showed moments of briliance, but never really showed a true level of consistant performances. Guess the crosses from the outside of his boot was about all he had

From all accounts that i have read apparently during his time at sporting lisbon he was the superstar and outshone Ronaldo. A pretty good signing for besiktas, they are also after robinho.

What a waste. With the right coach to mentor him he could have been a second Ronaldo.

he has been managed by at least 3 champions league winning managers. he could never have been the second ronaldo.

I cant actually fathom one team with him and Robinho. I see that going downhill very quickly.

Yeah, I thought of adding that caveat. That he has seen plenty of talented mentors. But I am curious, I can count two but who is the third?

And for what its worth, he was doing alright under Co Adriannse and Ferreira at Porto. Maybe that was another case of him "finding his level". I think he certainly had the talent to be great, just not much of anything else.

Not to mention the fact that Jose is hardly regarded as the paragon of developing young talent. That said, the players attitude has been, historically, sh*tty

If you ever wanted to see the difference hard work makes you would compare the career trajectories of Quaresma and Ronaldo.

Bang on, it seems when young he was rated much higher than the greasy one. Talent will only take you so far.

Do you think that he is going to play well in Besiktas?

Absolutely true.

This guy really showed up Scolari for a hack. He was the big signing of that January, then Guus came in had a look at him in one game and sent him off to the reserves. Of course after that we only lost one match, won the FA Cup and should have made the CL final.

Lucky he didn't cost us anything for that six months, unlike Scolari's other star signing Deco, who cost us what 8 million then and 100K a week since. Roman must just sit there and shake his head sometimes and think "why was I so stupid?"

Maybe they looked at his CV and saw Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona, Porto, Inter Milan and Chelsea. You would assume you are getting a great player.
