What a performance by Portugal. I watched them hit 3 in 7 minutes (including one from our old buddy Tiago) before I left for work and now they are 6-0 up.

With their confidence surging and Brazil missing Kaka, I think they could turn the Brazilians. Either way it should be a hell of a match.

On a side note, I know the players have nothing to do with it, and are just doing what they are ordered to, but does anyone else get a kick out of seeing North Korea lose, knowing its probably a blow to their platform-wearing dwarf of a dictator? I just hope that the players arent placed in a camp when they get back, or something

I thought North Korea would do better than that. I actually wanted them to do well for the players' sakes as well as the North Korean people. I doubt they have a lot to cheer about...

7-0 to Portugal, what an amazing match to watch for once, loved every minute of it.

good for you. i actually managed to drop off at half time, and woke up just as the ref blew the final whistle....

Didn't watch the game, but I get the feeling North Korea switched off and just let Portugal keep scoring. Shame really.

And this should be the end of Ivory Coasts chances for reaching the next stage. I really can't see them gain 3 points and 10 goals on Portugal in the last round.

While I am far from an expert, PK, and I agree that their lives could use any uplift, you know that the regime in North Korea will parlay all the credit for their team's performance into some kind of propaganda coup for the Dear Leader and his doves of victory, or some sh*t. I wish someone like Ronaldo had the balls or the lack of sense to score in that rout and show an undershirt with something like "thats for you, kim jong il", but I think the political footballer went out of fashion when Gullit retired. And a slap in the face like that would probably just make him want to jail and torture more of his miserable hapless subjects.

I dont want to get overly political, but it astounds me how trillions of dollars could be sunk into the quagmire that was Iraq for years becasue of their natural resources using the doctrine of "preemptive war" and yet North Korea is essentially allowed to engage in open acts of war and wind up with a verbal reprimand by western heads of state (to which the usual response is indignation, threats of war, and missle tests.)

If there was ever a place to wage a preemptive war and free millions from the chains of brutal oppression, hunger and ideological slavery to a f**king lunatic, it is in North Korea. I hope it happens sooner rather than later. The very fact that I too was sad and worried for hte players and their families is proof positive they are pure evil.

That was an abysmal performance by the North Koreans. They actually capitulated. Their defence that proved difficult for Brazil to break down did not show up today!

David Villa, goal of the tournement so far in my opinion. The end result could of easily been more than 2 and i don't even know why they didn't score more since goal difference can play a major part in the end result of the group.

Chlie won! They are in 1/8 final!

they are not safe yet? if spain beats chile and switzerland wins it will be decided by goal difference?

I heard they showed the match live in North Korea. I wonder if it affected their performance.

I thought there was something like a 15 hour delay on all matches being shown in NK?

Spain outclassed Honduras with a 2-0 win. They stuck to their customary 4-2-3-1 formation with Villa on the left flank and Torres at centre forward. Tonight's result means they will have to beat Chile to guarantee moving on to the next round. I am really looking forward to that game!

Spains defensive has been very meh and fragile. Honduras had some fair attempts at goal and could have potentially scored 1 or 2 goals with better finishing.

Portugal showed that the best way to play with this Jabulani ball is to keep it on the deck. As can be seen so far in the tournament it is very difficult to score from corners/crosses and from distance. This is detrimental to Spain as their game depends on using its width and crosses from their wide players.

Can't wait for Portugal v Brazil and Portugal v Spain if Spain top and Portugal finish second.

Have to say I was bloody impressed with Tiago. Could have had a hattrick if his "Man United Mark 2" strike in the first half had snuck in.

Was always sad we let him go, he had such a good season for us in his year here. Pity he wasn't getting on a bit I wouldn't sneeze at having him back, given his situation at Juventus.

North Korea - the game was shown live over there and they got a good 0-0 draw so the people are happy. I reckon they'll go on to win the tournament (according to the press in North Korea anyway!).

As for the Spanish, they reminded me a lot of Arsenal last night, played some good stuff but wouldn't have a pop when they should have, instead trying to walk it in, they should have won by about 4.

I thought exactly the same. Spain were at times exceptional (apart from the no 22 who gave the ball away a heck of a lot for a Spanish player - was half expecting to see the name KALOU on the back of his shirt!)

IF only England could play that kind of football. Oh to have players who are actually comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Obviously still rooting for England to go on and do the impossible, but assuming we don't, a Spain v Argentina final would be an absolute classic and a joy to watch.
