I think that's the longest I've ever seen Chopper's hair, perhaps he was trying to keep up with the young 'uns!

It wasn't that fashionable being a keeper back then up here in Scotland ! Mind you if you were even a half decent  keeper, it guaranteed you a place in the school team

Cheers, never realised income tax was so high back then. Remember getting a tax rebate in about Nov 85 when I was back at College. I blew it !

I had to use my grant for rail travel and cost of books etc.

 I enjoyed being a keeper back then. I'd occasionally venture out of the penalty box at times acting as a 'sweeper'.  More Big Doug Rougvie than Beckenbauer to be honest  !

They didn't exactly come across as world class (or anywhere near it ) keepers, in comparison to the English keepers of the day.

David Harvey of Leeds Utd was a pretty decent keeper  when I started watching football.

I'd look on envious at the very good English keepers, such as Jimmy Rimmer, Phil Parkes, Paul Cooper of Ipswich Town (who never even won a single England cap !)

He now works for the engineering firm Costain, re-engaging with a career that was interrupted when Alex Ferguson asked him to decide what he wanted to be: a footballer or an engineer. He had to go back to college when in his mid-forties to complete his studies for an NHC in electrical engineering.

“I still respect him and will speak to him, but if you asked anyone who played for him and they will tell you, he’s a b******,” Rougvie says, on the subject of Ferguson. “You can’t argue with his success. But it was all about him. When I was a youngster at the club he cancelled my day release to go and study to be an engineer. All he cared about was the team. He probably cut my future livelihood in half.

“It took me a good few years to get back and build up a career after I hung up my boots,” he adds. “I’m not bitter. He didn’t give me any money, but he gave me a bagful of medals.”

They say fashion comes round again, just look at all the 80's casual gear worn now a days, yet to see the old ski hats come back in yet though, saw someone at Anfield a few years back wearing one, thought they were coming back, then realised they had never gone out up there.

Certainly Ron' Harris hair is long in that photo.

Agree Bowles was some player at his peak..

Stan is getting up, so Ron couldn't really have tackled him that hard on this occasion !

Ha. My Sunday team there were only about three non smokers including the subs. Half time you’d open up your Silk Cut “ I’ll have one of those” next thing your half packet down.

I might be wrong, but seem to remember seeing a photo of the old Palace keeper “ Stonewall “ Jackson having a snout during a game.

I did the programmes with the CFC badge I've tried to blow the picture up to see if I was at any of the games 77-78 season I think.

I posted a picture in the best football images I think the bloke's name is Phil Hoadley he's pictured with a fag in his hand. Nearly every one in my Sunday league team smoked me included I remember our assistant manager when I was 15 giving me one of his fags at half time they were Park Drive or something I nearly fainted a few minutes later and puked on the side of the pitch ha ha
