I can see Rix with back to us, but looks like Charlie Nicholas in back ground facing us

Yeah it's Charlie Nicholas facing us, a very talented player at his peak.

Never seen that programme cover before, and I usually recognise all of them from that season, remember being round grandparents that evening for some reason, and hearing on radio when scores were coming through, even then thinking, something is happening this season!! and it was only September. 36 years ago today!! Ouch

What is not relevant about a Chelsea programme

I for one appretiate the contributions  erskblue  puts in

A cover of a program that no one has attended from 100 years ago is dull if you've got a story to tell then ok.

He's neva been to Chelsea in his life so doesn't matter if the program is last week or last century. A Scottish guy who says he supports Chelsea and has never been but posts as if he's an old campaigner especially about 83/84.

You assume a lot. How do you know he's never been to a game? He actually writes elsewhere about what he used to wear to the Bridge. Whether he actually lived in or around London I couldn't say. What I can tell you is that back in the '70s and "80s we had fans who'd travel regularly to home and away games from as far afield as Carlisle, Sunderland and beyond.

What do you know? Not a lot by the sound of it.

Jimmy Greaves back in a Chelsea strip. It was Ron Harris Testimonial Stamford Bridge. Chelsea v Chelsea Past X1, 21st April 1980.
Jimmy was playing in his last game before retiring from football

I was there. Couldn’t believe it when 1970s beat the current team!!

programme cover for Chelsea v Millwall Athletic, Monday, 14th Sep 1914 A programme cover from 1914.  Hope no one is easily offended...

We played Millwall on Mon, 14th Sep 1914 at 3:30pm in the London Prof. Charity Fund.  A crowd of 3,000 saw us go down 2-0.

They very probably had their minds on the events no that far across the English Channel. The conflict which became known as World War 1, had not long started.

programme cover for Chelsea v Newcastle United, Wednesday, 14th Sep 1955 Wed, 14th Sept 1955 at 3:30pm , We beat FA Cup holders 3-0 in the Charity Shield.

This event was much more low key than it was to become particularly after it began to be played at Wembley from 1974..Our scorers were: McMichael (O.G) 56, Bentley 2nd, Blunstone 79th min.

A crowd of 12,802 saw it ,Low due to the Wed afternoon work and school commitments.
