Peter Brabrook beats Billy Wright of Wolves.

Soccer – League Division One – Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers – Stamford Bridge

Jimmy Greaves at just 18, scoring one of five goals against the then champions Wolves !
30th August 1958. 62,118 was the official attendance.
He had scored eight goals in the first three League games!
Two goals away at Man Utd the previous Saturday and another goal in mid week against Spurs at the Bridge, when we beat them 4-2.

Team photo from 1960/61.

Charley Livsey, John Sillett, T. Bradbury.
Seated: Johnny Brooks, Terry Venables, Jimmy Greaves and Frank Blunstone

Interesting fact. Chelsea fan and Lead singer of The Zombies, Colin Blunstone, was related to Frank Blunstone. In Colin's  own words......"My father was Frank's father's cousin, and I've never quite worked out what that makes me." 😉

Never saw this guy play, but I was in a black cab at the time Arjen Robbin signed, and was having a bit of a banter with the Spud loving cabbie. he said " Robbin looks tasty, but you already had that with Charlie Cook. What a player he was!"  Was he right?

TheBeard:The cabbie was 100% right!

My old man rated Charlie Cooke as the best player he ever played against by a mile.

He played against him when they were teenagers and both were playing non League football up here in Scotland.

Charlie Cooke should have won far more full Scotland caps than the 16 he did.

He was an extremely skilful player, the old fashioned right winger.

Some of the 55,003 😀 crowd who had gathered at The Bridge on 27th December 1976 against Fulham.

We won 2-0 with goals from Micky Droy and Kenny Swain.

The small stand in the corner had been demolished, although the replacement terracing was not yet finished, obviously!😀
