Nothing like the North Bank Highbury, or the Liverpool Kop ( the latter kept everyone dry) Clubs didn’t invest much in facilities pretty much up to the Premiership era, however think if we’d put decent roofs on the Shed, and the North terrace, our attendances would had improved. Attracted floating fans during sh*t weather, and existing fans who didn’t fancy spending the afternoon in the pissing rain. It’s not like building a new stand- only a modest steel frame with columns and rafters above, covered in crinkly tin. We should have been able to attract those " floating fans" you mentioned when there were torrential downpours surely? 🤣 Do you remember the game V Spurs in a monsoon, everyone squashed under the old North stand and Shed , terraces looking almost deserted, I reckoned we had about 35,000 yet amazingly it turned out to be over 60,000! Battered them but lost 2 f**king Nil !

IMO he got better and better as a player in those years, as he was not just hard as nails but was a canny defender too. I remember him doing a brilliant job marking Dalglish in the famous 2-0 cup victory in 1982. Pretty sure he never saw a minute's action in the great 83-84 season, so all the hard graft on the dunes came to nothing for him.

From the end of 82-83 he never played until Coventry away for his last appearance 84-85 lost 1-0
