What about the members' cup 5-4?

What about the members' cup 5-4?

Hi Garry do you mean the Full Members Cup?

If so I posted it very early on in the thread, page 25 I think. I have a much superior copy and will dig it out, but the one on the thread is watchable

Are the 13-0 and/or the 8-0 against Jeunesse Hautcharage available?

Apparently there was news footage of one of the legs, but it has not surfaced as yet, but I am on to it

Before the days of videos, internet, facebook, chat and forums there was only one way of collecting matches:

I have the LP 12" recordings of live match commentaries from the 1970, 1971 and 1972 finals. Would there be any interest in these as mp3 files? That said, I'd have to check the copyrite status but I think it's 30 years on spoken word LP's.

Does anyone else wonder if we are jinxed in x1/x2 seasons?

Is this our vintage jinx?

In 1911/1912 we lost our unbeaten at home record having gone 1910-1911 unbeaten, a feat not emulated until 76-77.

1921-22 Last Cup Final at Stamford Bridge

1931-32 Went from top of league to bottom of league during season

1941-42 Stamford Bridge bombed

1951-52 Lost semi-final of cup.

1961-62 Relegated after our longest spell in Division 1

1971-72 Lost league cup final and got dumped out of FA Cup by Orient after leading 2-0 and ECWC on away goals by bunch of 13 Swedish part-timers who all worked at the same factory. (Imagine the reception they got on the shop floor on their return).

1981-82 Lost q/f to Spurs, our only q/f for 19 seasons

1991-92 Lost q/f to Sunderland

2001-02 Lost Cup Final, lost semi-final league cup, dumped out of Europe by bunch of no-hopers of Israel.

2011-12 ? Let me guess: Dumped out by Napoli. Sacked manager. Lose cup 5th Round to Brum. John Terry loses England armband. Roman sells club, recalls loan and leaves us in the Isthmian league

Mind you - Isthmian league - hmmmm - Imagine the chance to stand on terraces again and all those new grounds. Every cloud has a silver lining.

These records used to be advertised in 'Shoot !' Magazine along with film footage.

It would be great to see Chelsea down at Dulwich Hamlet ! They did play once in my living memory, a surprise friendly sometime in the early 90's. Hoddle era I think. I was sat home and didn't know about it until someone phoned Danny Baker on 505. By all accounts Chelsea were lucky to scrape a draw.

Anyone got a clip of when we played at Leicester and sang "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chel ...sea, Chel ... sea " all the game ?

Anyone got a clip of when we played at Leicester and sang "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chel ...sea, Chel ... sea " all the game ?

When was that? Was it really through the whole game? I love it when we sing that defiant chant but I've only ever really experienced it in the later parts of matches. I remember a couple of occasions, one at Sheff Wed that was good and one at Leeds. The Leeds one was cool. We had a tiny following up there for a midweek game (easily less than a 1000). I reckon it was April 98 when we lost 3-1 and Charvet scored our goal but my memory is dreadful for details. Anyway, I was at the club shop the next day and Franco was doing a signing. Going through that translator chap I cut the queue just to say I had been at Leeds the previous night and did he hear us chanting Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea for half an hour? He smiled said it was great support and we shook hands. I not sure he really was aware of the chanting but never mind. I just can't beleive I didn't get a picture or anything signed!

"Anyone got a clip of when we played at Leicester and sang "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chel ...sea, Chel ... sea " all the game ?"

You mean to the tune of "Hey Jude"

I remember us doing this for most of a game in 1981/82. Friday night 16th October 1981 in the old second divsion. Fillery put us 1-0 up after 15 minutes. We started the chant 2 minutes later. It just continued and continued, with the arms and fists going out on every chant. The play on 30 minutes was down the other end in our goal mouth. "Chel-sea, Chel-sea", ball crossed in, "Chel-sea, Chel-sea, Chel-sea, Chel-sea, "Chel-" Leicester scored, "sea, Chel-sea, Chel-sea". Brilliant how we just continued as the ball was picked out of the net and returned to the Half-Way line. I don't think there is a better way to support a team. No way were were going to lose. The magical moment was not lost on us and suddenly people realised this was something very special. "Chel-sea, Chel-sea, Chel-sea, Chel-sea". It just went on, if ever a "Chel-sea" sounded like it was dying out the next one was shouted louder "CHEL- SEA", and so on. Right on through to half-time and the entire second-half. The team realised this was something special. The game stayed 1-1 and the team ran over to us at the end of the match and threw their shirts in the crowd. Even the Leicester team applauded us.

On pre-season tour the following summer this came up. During pre-season trips to Sweden we'd hang around with the players, met them at swimming pools, cinemas, restaurants and pubs. That night at Filbert street had become part of Chelsea folklore. The Chelsea players who had not come up that night had heard all about it from the others. It was never repeated in such a way even if we did sing it for long periods at other matches. We were asked how it happens, who decides what to sing and for how long. But there is no command, it's just one of those things that has to be sensed and created live.

It is worth saying that if our current fans could get behind the team today in the same way we'd be doing much better. Imagine our fans doing this during and inbetween Rooney's two penalties 2 weeks ago, he'd have missed the second. Our fans fell silent which added to the momentum Moan Utd had picked up after the first goal. They sensed they were on to something. In contrast when Leicester scored that goal and our chant continued unabated they felt disheartened and Chelsea strengthened.

Funny enough I do remember us trying to repeat this at Leicester on 3rd January 1983. But it never came off and they scored 3. I hated the violence at football and always wished we could meet the opposing fans and have a good old chinwag about the games over a pint or two.

Spending all that time and money travelling the country and the only contact with the locals was threatening and abusive. Sad really.

Anyway, back to the 1983 game. I was in the seats looking down on the end. The home fans and away fans shared the end covered terrace with a fence inbetween. Lineker scored after 30 and Alan Smih after 60. With a few minutes to go Lineker added a 3rd. 3-0 - At that Chelsea fans all left, the entire terrace was empty, but were the gates open behind? I knew what was about to happen n that case. Leicester fans came out with "Goodbye, Chelsea, don't cry Chelsea, Goodbye Chelsea, Goodbye". Oh these fools; didn't they know?. But their jeering and chanting continued. At Leicester we'd spent a few years having bricks and bottles chucked into our end terrace and by now we were all sick of it. That's why I was in the seats. However I remember sitting with Cathy and we realised that even our section of the seats in the last minute was void of Chelsea fans. They'd also piled out of the ground. Somehow every one had decided that it was pay-back time. Pay-back for that Chelsea fan who lost his front teeth to a Leicester brick on Easter Monday 1980 when their Larry May had added insult to all the injuries we sustained on the terraces when he impeded Petar Borota and scored. That 1-0 defeat cost us promotion and gave Leicester the championship. (They came straight back down though).

So there we were, Cathy, myself and a few more Chelsea in a vast empty section of seats. A few kids dotted around an empty Chelsea terrace and Leicester fans taunting and jeering. Of course, our mob from the seats had met up outside with the terrace mob and they just ran in behind the open Leicester section. The gates having been opened too early before the police had been able to move their force to the gates for the escort. We later learned that the gates had in fact been shut but Chelsea fans had simply lifted off the locking barrier. The Leicester section had been opened. But at 3-0 up they were not leaving. So from my vantage point high above the end I remember the almighty roar from behind the Leicester end. After years of dodging bottles, the odd dart, petrol bomb, you name it, Chelsea fans had finally had enough. Aboout ten Chelsea fans came in behind the Leicester fans and let out one almighty "Chel-sea". Leicester fans turned their attention from that the match that was now in injury-time. Little did they know it but they had some injury-time of their own coming. As a few Leicester faced the Chelsea suddenly the floodgates opened and literally thousands of Chelsea poured into their end. The Leciester boys who faced up got a pasting. The rest of their fans jumped onto the pitch. I've never seen an end taken in such a fashion. The sneak-out, sneak-in end-of-match trick hadn't worked since the early 70's. With all the jeering, all the missles we'd been subjected to over the years I must admit for the first time ever I actually enjoyed watching this. Chelsea fans stayed in that end and Leicester fans had to be led out accross the pitch for their own safety. I remember the journey home. It seemed like everyone had taken part in "the take". People you would never dream of. Many had just followed the mob and not realised what was going on until they found themselves back in the ground and entering the home end.

So all in all..................... and Leicester!

"Anyone got a clip of when we played at Leicester and sang "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chel ...sea, Chel ... sea " all the game ?"

'Amazing Grace', you mean?

No, I mean the "Hey Dude" version, the bit towards the end, on reflection it is pretty similar to Amazing Grace and I am tone deaf so maybe I have always misunderstood this.

99% sure the tune is 'Amazing Grace'.

EDIT: The 'Hey Jude' song is the Whoa-Whoa- Whoa, Whoa- Whoa-Whooa, Chelsea' one. Usually sung in short bursts, unlike the 'Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea,

Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea

etc.'

which can go on for ages.

I wonder where this agro history with Leicester originates from? I only went to Filbert Street once, the Friday night game in and that was a bit of a violent affair with hundreds of Chelsea turning up in the side enclosure (down the right on the camera side), then there was the orange flare on the pitch and finally the same Chelsea leaving early and getting into the Leicester section behind the goal. I only remember trouble at Chelsea once and that was after the game on the waste ground at the bottom of Carnwarth Road where they parked the away coaches. I think that game was around Christmas.

Funny you should mention the "orange" flare. It was more pink and it came from our terrace behind the goal. A steward kicked it back into our fans. Here is a picture I took of it. Also in this picture a young Stephen Rodgers, (aka Winkle) who died at Liverpool St in 88-89 on way to a game following an asthma attack.

Damned colour blindness. Our support was huge that night, I never rated Leicester, any team who had to play on Fridays due to Rugby Union on the Saturday had to be considered a joke.

One of our greatest players with one of our greatest fans. (Cathy has not missed a match home or away for 35 years).

This picture taken on 1st August 1982 on pre-season tour of Sweden. We had just beaten Strömsund 8-0. Colin Pates became the first Chelsea player in history to lift a trophy at Wembley.

The only Leicester game around Xmas was our 1-0 win on Boxing Day 1979. FIllery scored in the 65th. But I don't recall any trouble or hearing about any trouble afterwards.

Regards Leicester, i was told once by a Leicester lad the reason they hate us so much is because of the amount of kickings Chelsea dished out to them at Filbert st in the early 80s.

1981

racee-13.jpg

I went to every game at Leicester from 89 onwards & everytime we'd have a big mob up there & it'd always go off round the ground & side streets, one time in the 90s at Kings cross at 07.30am there must have been 200 Chelsea casuals all lined up against a wall being searched by plod much to the bemusment of other passengers.

Another game where Chelsea were in the Leicester end was in the cup in 97,

(Chelsea goals only) Also shows Jimmy Hill moaning at half time about over a 100 fans fighting in the home end after Chelsea fans infiltrated the stand behind the goal.

They've only travelled to sb twice with intent, in the late 90s 40/50 of em got run by 15 odd CFC after walking in the white hart pub, then in 2007? when fv was almost dead they had a pop at a pub on the north end rd but we met by some ex north stand oaps & others.

In football terms bit of a weird rivalry but one that will never end for some of the pitch.

The only Leicester game around Xmas was our 1-0 win on Boxing Day 1979. FIllery scored in the 65th. But I don't recall any trouble or hearing about any trouble afterwards.

It was an unexpected one as Leicester brought an unusually large support that day. I was sat in the benches and when their lot kept turning up (most of them dressed in those sort of kiddiesque chequed/tartan jackets with sheepskin collars while we wore the green bombers of the time) a load of ours went from the benches into the North Stand and started singing Leicester down the front. This confused the old bill who rounded them up and put them into the Leicester section who obviously knew what was going on and a quick punch up happened. After the game Chelsea infiltrated their escort as they were being led down a dark Britannia Road and across King's Road where it all kicked off for a good few minutes on that bit of waste ground I mentioned. They were pretty game that day to be fair.
