Today's Shot of The Day is an absolute classic:

The Chelsea team applaud their captain, Roy Bentley, as he addresses the crowd after a win over Sheffield Wednesday at Stamford Bridge, 23rd April 1955. Chelsea's victory secured them the League Championship for the first time.

Chelsea v Liverpool fa cup 85/86, two of my own personal pics taqken from the benches, we lost 2.1 & Dixon went off injured, the game was live on itv & those ever so friendly scousers shot a flare in to the west stand with it hitting the underneath of the roof.

What is it with Scousers and flares? This one's from the 84/85 season, also aimed towards the West Stand

Shatner i've been searching for those Pompey pics for years, they were in a Pompey book that was out years ago, quality again mate, i've seen those Leeds pics before it always makes me wonder why there wasnt more disorder that day with the amount of CFC on the pitch, i reckon any attack on the Leeds sections would have turned in to a full scale riot like the Bham Leeds game a year later.

Last game of the season(87/88) v Charlton & we drew 1.1 putting us in the play-offs v Boro, loads of Chelsea infiltrated the away end by the benches & kicked it off, in this picture the ob are putting our lot in the empty pen between the benches & the away end after they'd had it,

A lot of United got in through the Shed turnstiles. This looks like them being escorted into the North Stand. Lots of girls amongst them I remember.

Yeah they wernt "firm" or anything just a load of normals who couldnt get in the away end, once in the shed their supposed to have asked to be taken to the away section.

Remember at that Pompey match, due to the cold weather, the grounds staff used straw & sand to keep the pitch from freezing!.

Honestly, after they had scraped it off the pitch, what with all the mud,it looked like a zoo's kharzi.

Great pictures though & great memories.

One of the nicest things about these wonderful photos is seeing shots of the Bridge in its shoddy but atmospheric prime. I'd swap todays Bridge for that one without a second thought!

1994 FA Cup Quarter Final against Wolves, I'm on the pitch somewhere in this picture singing the old West Ham "chim chimmeny" song, wrongly assuming they'd beat Luton Town
