Dunno for sure, but i went up to blackburn around september 82 for a league game. We lost the match 3-0 and about 5 minutes from the end, as was quite customary around this time, a firm of CFC resplendent in a uniform of DMs and green flying jackets assembled. Gates were routinely opened near the end to let fans out, unfortunatley for Blackburn it also enabled the chelsea firm to breeze in and cause a stampede as the unsuspecting Rovers fans legged it. Weather conditions (grim oop norf) look right for that day too.Thats my guess

That was exactly what happened on the 0-3 day (dunno if thats the same game as in the photo). I was in the seats on the side and saw it all. On the train home we speculated that it would be all over the Sunday press and we'd end up being banned from away games. But there was hardly a mention. One small report somewhere said that the sister of Blackburn striker Simon Garner (?) had been hurt in the crush.

Going into the home end 5 minutes before the end was common in those days......Those who now chant "Where were you when you were shyte" (Geordies for starters) clearly weren't around then and should chant that song at themselves!!!!

From the official site's 'Shot of the Day' is this shot which maybe not the greatest picture ever but reminds me of my personal highlight of watching the Blues - our CWC game in Vienna in '94. Our support was incredible that night.

Good o'l Spenny - who appears to be wearing a girdle!

Think that pic is from the old training ground called Polters park in Morden, Tooting & Mitcham now play there.

Today's Shot Of The Day is another one of Ossie, described by the official site as having been taken on October 1st 1973. So I had a look around to try to find who we were playing that day, but from what I gather we weren't. There was however, according to various sources, including statto.com, a 2-2 draw against Wolves at Stamford Bridge the previous day:

Given the era, I can guarantee that I would have been there, but typically don't remember a thing about the game. However, a little more research tells me that Ossie scored our second goal that day:

Date: Saturday, 29th September 1973

Competition: Football League Division 1 Position 16

Scorers: W.Garner 72, P.Osgood 78; McCalliog 51, McCalliog 60

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Attendance: 27,846

Chelsea 1 PP.Bonetti, 2 GR.Locke, 3 RE.Harris, 4 JW.Hollins, 5 M.Droy, 6 D.Webb, 7 SD.Kember, 8 AA.Hudson, 9 P.Osgood, 10 T.Baldwin (12 I.Hutchinson), 11 W.Garner

Wolverhampton Wanderers Pierce, Taylor, Parkin, Bailey (Hegan), Munro, McAlle, McCalliog, Hibbitt, Richards, Dougan, Wagstaffe

Referee: Edward Jolly (Middleton)

I would have definitely been there as well, only home game I missed that season was the Burnley league game that was scheduled to be played on a Tuesday, I think, afternoon due to the power crisis of the time. After begging me mum for the afternoon off of school I got to Fulham Broadway to find out that the game had been postponed due to a frozen pitch, only found out from watching the news the next night that they'd hastily rearranged it for the following day. Don't think I missed another one until the first home game of 78/9 against Leeds.

If only I could retain useful information, I'd probably be a wealthy man now.

I'm in there somewhere!

Looking at the pics on page 8 tbh I've got tears in my eyes thinking about how it used to be.

I can just remember being so mental when it came to Chelsea.

Passion of a dead bluebottle at the bridge these days.

Am watching a re-run of the Wembley final on CTV as I type, which was over two weeks before the replay at OT. We're 1-0 down to that farcical Jack Charlton goal when Chopper and McCreadie both took air-shots at the ball (what the hell did Chopper and Ossie appeal for when that went in).

Playing pretty well on a diabolical surface which left the players knackered (Hutch's socks are already down, but didn't he always play like that?). Everyone is working their nuts off, but Charlie Cooke hasn't had a look-in. Webb hasn't yet been taken apart by Gray.

Terry Cooper's just blocked a cross with his arm, but no appeal. Equaliser coming - courtesy of a howler from Sprake.

I love Houseman's celebration. Simple arm in the air, no badge kissing slag, dummies, sssshh, etc.

Another Shot of the Day from the '70s. This one features Mickey Droy looking almost balletic and Stevie Wicks looking not like Stevie Wicks at all:

19th November 1977: John Deeham of Aston Villa (centre) tries to break through the Chelsea defence of Micky Droy (left) and Steve Wicks during a league match at Stamford Bridge. Final score: 0-0.

Nice one!

Today's Shot of the day is another decent squad photo, this time from 1972, the makeup of which is remarkably similar to the 1973 squad posted earlier in this thread:

I was in the old East Stand for my first game at the Bridge in 1970, you could walk underneath it from the Shed to the North Stand.

I remember reading once that the old East Stand was an exact replica of Fulham's. Same architect, same blueprint. Can't remember which was built first, though.
