Oh yes, didn't look at the right side too closely! Maybe not that Man U game, as there's too much grass for an end-of-season fixture! Definitely a team in red, judging by the away support.

The East Stand opened in August '74, I think, and it's nowhere near finished in that shot.

I'm sure its Chelsea v Arsenal 73/74

I queued up all night for tickets for that, aged 12, after my dad had dropped me off at the Bridge then dutifully farked off back home to bed. Didn't even come and get me in the morning and had to rely on, back then, Sunday bus timetables to get me home.

I queued up for that one too, joined the queue between the main entrance & the Bovril entrance when the pubs kicked out. Don't think the tickets went on sale till 9 or 10 in the morning, us fans were made of sterner stuff back then, no sleeping bags, no blankets, just thousands of Chelsea fans standing around in their crombies, had a good laugh too!

I'm sure I've mentioned it on here before, but I got lucky in that a middle aged couple took pity on me, standing there shivering in just a t-shirt and jumper. They gave me a blanket and kept me topped up with soup, sarnies and tea all night.

Almost definitely the same night. Face it there weren't that many overnight queues around that time. What I do remember is fans coming along with various pieces of furniture, including an old sofa nicked from a building site. There was the occasional attempt to get a fire going but of course the old bill were having none of that.

Newcastle 1 Chelsea 1 1984

Very rare unseen footage, 5,000 Chelsea packed behind the goal.

I remember this one well. It was during the miners' strike. We sat on the half way line smoking cigars (aged about 19) and mouthing off in our poshest accents about closing more pits. Happy days !!!!

Love that picture. I'm try to work out when it was taken. The old North Stand was demolished in '77 or 78, I think, so I'm guessing it must have been early in our first season back in the 1st division, as the away support looks very good. It could be the Palace FA Cup game in '76.

This is against Arsenal in 1973.... back in the good ole days it was a really big crowd at the bridge that day, you can see the North Stand has still got that little stand in the corner then.

chelseaden you asked for storeys about west ham in 1980 and me and backbiter told ours i was 14 at the time with my mates some even younger so when you see and i don't like saying it chelsea running to a man did you expect me and my juvenile mates to stand there and go toe to toe with west ham and even if we stood there west ham being the horrible lot they are would have battered us regardless of our age and i've followed chelsea all over the country and europe so don't talk about the chelsea spirit to me mate

This is the Chelsea spirit trying to batter our way past the old bill to get stuck into the scousers up the north stand in 82 and kicking Millwall out the shed in 77 lol

Can see a certain one armed fella in that pic, in between the "CO.UK" he's just above the .

I was in the Shed for the 80 game v West Ham and they had a small group in our end ,we identified them and pushed them into the corner by the benches and they got a right kick in ,the only one fighting back was an old copper not a wooden top, he appeared to have a sergeants peaked cap on and he was chinning any Chelsea fan that got near him .

     Great picture that is Doc (page 97) this thread   ?  I am 95% Sure that is me in the foreground looking out towards the North Stand from the Shed in the grey T shirt  ::ChELSeAFaN::  ::ChELSeAFaN:: .I used to perch myself there at that time.My missus is out at the moment shopping but when she gets in I will confirm it .  I see the fences are up so guess this must be mid Eighties?

I tryed posting this on the headhunters topic but for some reason it would not let me do it.

There is post on there about Breda Lee who use work serving teas to the players and looking after there kits in the dressing room and who use to go to most of the aways .

I remember when Breda Lee son died at Preston away in the 80's,a few of his friends walk around Stamford Bridge taking a collection   for her.

She was a really lovely lady and had time for everyone including Hickey and his crew to the little lad who first time it was at the Bridge.

In fact there were a few stewards who were like that in thems day everyone know everyone else especially at away games.

john dempsey talk about this lady i remeber

That was the queue that was.
