This is obviously too much to implement but always crossed by mind if we could use wing backs theoretically with our squad something like:

Ivan and JT sit deep, Zouma pushing up slightly helping Matic between the lines when need be, Dave and Baba pushed up cutting out the counters higher up the ptich and tracking back inside when needed, Matic bossing the middle keeping the tempo...could be a stoke of genius or be completely sh*t, I just think that fabs position is wasted he isn't really a Dm and isn't really a CM, he doesn't know what he is supposed to be doing, and 2 DM is over kill most of the time

Wing backs would suit our defense with Bran and Zouma on the outside of the 3 CBs. Matic is perfect for dropping back into the defense when we lose the ball as well. Our wingers play narrow anyway so having numbers in the center wouldnt be as much of a problem. Dont think we'll be doing it but I like that idea

The pace and interchanging options with these three is brilliant. Then have Azpi and Baba making overlapping runs and watch out.

My three options. Personally I like the wingback idea a lot.

Seems to be a common theme that cesc cannot play CM in a 2 with Matic. Whoich means we should be looking at bringing in another CM.

 

Ludicrous any statements involving Willian playing there. (too much football manager being played, I think). As for Ivanovic playing there, well less said the better.

 

Oscar could do the job. Cesc knows how to do the job inside out, its just whether he has the discipline to do so. For me its only against the bigger teams he will get exposed playing there.

If Oscar can do the job, why not Willian who imho is better than him in almost every aspect other than end product. 

 

What is the big difference between that and Modric or Cazorla being shifted deeper? Is Wenger playing too much FM?

Of course, but we're talking about playing deeper so less so. 

 

I think Willian is a better athlete, better dribbler, more consistent and has slightly better technique.  

My three options. Personally I like the wingback idea a lot.

Also like the wingback idea but Terry cant play on the outside of the three. He would be the default LB or RB when we are defending which means we would get to enjoy seeing him up against Sterling, Sanchez etc... that scenario ends badly for us.

Intelligence, movement, passing, end product count for nothing when you can sprint from the wing and dispossess someone in the centre-circle. Some of our fans have been fully Mourinhoed. 

4-3-3       suits the current personnel, especially with Pedro in

 

4-2-3-1    does not until Matic has a competent partner, Fab is not that partner

As stated above, intelligence, positioning, passing, movement, all things Oscar has shown to be better at. Willian may be a better athlete but same can be said for Ramires or Mikel.

Most of these things are subjective, like better technique. Oscars looked pretty good on the corners and fks. I think he has a better touch as well, combined with positioning it leaves him no need to dribble past defenders because he avoids them all together. Agree to disagree
