In November, Tim Rolls representing the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust, along with representatives of Spirit of Shankly, Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’Trust and the Football Supporters’ Federation met with senior Executives from Sky Sports to discuss the impact of the rescheduling of Premier League matches for broadcast on match going fans, particularly away supporters. A further meeting was held on 22 February, with comment to follow.

 

Ongoing dialogue surrounding the scheduling of Premier League fixtures for TV took place at the latest meeting between supporter groups and representatives from Sky Sports.

The meetings were set up to give consideration to supporter groups and the impact on fans, particularly travelling fans, of fixture schedule changes when making TV selections, while at the same time outlining the requirements and considerations that have to be taken into account from a broadcast perspective.

Sky Sports is always mindful of the impact of their selections, taking this into consideration where possible on TV picks to minimise the impact on fans. The company also recognises that its customers and match-going fans are one and the same.

Fan reps now a have a greater understanding of the complexities of fixture scheduling, particularly the various contractual obligations broadcasters must meet.

Kat Law from the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, said: “We were encouraged by Sky’s enthusiasm to continue to build a working relationship with supporter representatives and the desire, from the top of the organisation, to consider travelling supporters when scheduling matches for live coverage.”

Gary Hughes, Sky Sports Head of Football, said: “We welcome this conversation with supporters about travelling to away matches and understanding the issues they face. It has also been helpful to outline the process we go through to select live fixtures, and the contractual obligations that ensure every club and every ground is featured regularly across the various slots we can schedule matches in. We have listened to the feedback, will continue to do so and widen this dialogue in future.”

While broadcasters have an influence on the match schedule throughout the season, the ultimate responsibility for fixture scheduling rests with the Premier League, and supporter groups are renewing the call for representatives from the Premier League to engage in these discussions as positively as Sky have done.

The supporter reps will now seek meetings with the Premier League, BT Sport, the train operators and individual clubs as they look for a joined-up approach to ensuring fixture rescheduling for broadcast purposes has minimal impact on travelling fans in the future.

Bollocks!  That's why Liverpool was on a Friday night - so that all the Scousers had a nice easy journey down to London and the chance to spend the night in London as the last train left before the match finished.   And that's just off the top of my head!

A new date and kick-off time for our Premier League home game against Middlesbrough in May have been announced.

The match has been selected for live television broadcast and will now take place at Stamford Bridge on Monday 8 May, kick-off 8pm. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The TV selections for May are being announced on a week-by-week basis, meaning there is a possibility more of our fixtures throughout the month will be moved.

Am not a big fan of Monday night football.  Still no news of when the game against Watford will be played.

Means we could win the league then, last fixture of that weekend. Depending on when the Watford fixture is as long as we are 7 or 10 points clear after the game we've won the league.

 Wont get home till about 1am and have to be at work at 6am. Really pissed me off as i dont want to mis it in case it is the game we win the league.

Obviously they didnt think of Midlesbrough fans either travaling on a monday.

@Zola you were hoping to get a ticket for this one weren't you - does the change of day affect you too?

An absolute joke that this game will be played on a Monday night especially if it's the one where we win the title. No thought to the fans who have to travel long distances and have to get up early next day.

If the game finishes at 10.00pm and we win the league it will be a while before getting out of the ground. Very little time for a celebratory drink afterwards. Can't understand why the game can't be played at the weekend. Bloody Sky.

My guess is Watford will be re-scheduled to the last mid-week slot, Wed May 17th. This is what happened when we last won the league, as I recall, even though there were earlier slots available. Also, live TV selections have been announced through May 8th and it's unlikely they'll schedule a mid-week match after we host Boro on a Monday. This would make Boro the league-clincher if we stay 8-11 points ahead.

Its an absolute bollocks of a change. Friday, Saturday or Sunday would have been fine ;(

I think you're right about when the game against Watford will be played. Due to our other  fixtures; the need to give people time to plan and buy tickets; and also the TV companies will wish to avoid a clash with Champions League games. It would be nice if the club announced the date for the game as soon as possible.

All confirmed now with fixtures for the run in. 

Friday then Monday is a bit weird. 

 

In fact all the fixtures are weird. From the 5th May to the 18th May there are only 2 dates without a premier league fixture. Tottenham are playing away on the Thursday to Leicester and then away at Hull on the final day of the season 3 days later.
