I’m now in my late 50s and we were probably the last generation to be able to play football in the streets where we lived. Before the streets became too busy and/or too dangerous with cars.Yet in many places, including the High School in the town in the West of Scotland where I now live and at the Secondary School I attended. The facilities have improved out of all recognition, from when I played football as a youngster. 1975-1985. All those years ago! There are now all weather pitches with floodlights. Yet all too often on a Saturday, they appear to be half empty. There are certainly nowadays ,‘No Football Played In The Streets.’
January 10Jan 10 Not an image but a video of when Hull played Charlton in the FA Cup in 1971l Lots of snow on the pitch. Not sure if the game would go ahead nowadays.
January 11Jan 11 And so is this one ! Great ‘Five Rivers’ pitchside advert!Played on pitches like this one, as a youngster.
January 12Jan 12 Scotland line up at Wembley in 1967...Greig (Captain) Simpson, Gemmell. McCalliog, Wallace, Lennox, McKinnon, Law, Bremner, McCreadie, Baxter. Beat England 3-2. A great Scotland team.
January 13Jan 13 Ten shillings for a ticket. Different from nowadays. I remember the ten bob notes. If you were given one as a kid you felt rich.
January 13Jan 13 Colin Stein and Peter Shilton. England v Scotland at Wembley in May 1973.Colin Stein of Scotland is sent flying by England’s Brian Labone at Hampden in April 1970. The West German referee’s decision ? To award England a goal-kick!The official attendance was given as both 137,248 and also as 137,438. Add 25-30,000 for the true attendance!

It was played on a Wednesday afternoon, with a 2.15 pm kick off.Spectators outside The Bridge for the match.
January 16Jan 16 Scotland v England 2nd April 1966. Official attendance was given as (‘only’) 123,052! 123,052? I don’t think so!! The tickets for this match back then, were like gold dust, only more valuable! The official capacity of Hampden in April 1966 was 134,000 and there are no spaces at all, even in the terracing stairwells. So add 30,000 for the true attendance figure.
