August 9, 20169 yr Serious changes need to be made to that back line in the coming days. Luckily the Koulibaly rumours have sparked back up this week. It would be great to have a new CB but it's not essential as I think we can survive till January at least with JT, Cahill, Ivan, Zouma and perhaps Miazga or another youth as a reserve backup. But as Baba has gone we have no natural left back now, we can take a chance and have Aina as first choice RB and Ivan second choice which is far from ideal but that leaves LB as what? Azpi and Kenedy?? If we can only sign a player before the season starts it's got to be a left back, don't know any potential targets I'd just throw £25m to get Bertrand back.
August 9, 20169 yr i think so far the club has not learned from last year. Our def is crap with 3 of the back 4 seeming to have played their best footy in previous years
August 9, 20169 yr If Terry is fit for the West Ham match I think the only difference to last years starting 11 will be Kante. I think Conte is realizing that with our slow defence we can't fully employ the tactics or formation he really wants, so we will probably end up with 433 or 4231 again. Unless we change some of the players then no matter who the manager is we will be limited. Also, I really don't understand this hanging out transfers until the end of the window policy. At best we get a player who has had no pre-season with us, probably goes away on international duty straight away so doesn't even get to meet his new team until mid September and then has to learn our playing style. So you are talking a good month and a half after the season has already started. Or, even worse, we leave it so late that the selling club is annoyed with the saga dragging out, have no time to get in a replacement themselves so refuse to sell to us and then we end up with a Michael Hector instead. It makes no sense to me. Edited August 9, 20169 yr by 2211

August 14, 20169 yr Having watched leicester, everton, spurs, city, united, arsenal and liverpool, im pretty confident that we can at least get top 4, and with a couple of defensive reinforcements, we can challenge for the title. As much money as there is in the premier league, i still dont see any real top quality sides that are on the same level as real, barca, and bayern, maybe one will develop over the season, but the competition is fierce in england, so its difficult for any team to dominate, regardless of whichever players and managers are bought in at great expense. Glad the real football is back, im alot more confident than i was, lets hope our boys can provide us with further optimism tomorrow night.
