New Players and Your Expectations.

Featured Replies

More often than not when we buy a new player i have never seen them play before, let alone have an opinion on them.

So who has surprised you the most in the past, who has exceeded your expectations ?

Alonso and Azpilcueta are two who recently joined us, and who i had never seen before (that i remember), but now i can honestly say thank God we purchased them.

So who do you think will surprise us the most from the new summer signings ?

Overall I think we've done well in that transfer window, I won't lie, I was dreaming about players like Sandro, Aurier, Lukaku, Boateng. But the players we bought are potentially good enough as well. Having players like Morata, Bakayoko, Rudiger is strong enough to play at the high level. Morata already shows us what we're going to see him in the whole season, a quality striker that is hungry for goals, ready to fight for the team and lead us by scoring goals. Same as Rudiger, I think we a little bit underrating him, he does a good job, very strong defender and good defensively, I think we all noticed that Alonso is attacking much more than last season, Rudiger has got his back every counter attack.

Bakayoko is a good replacement for Matic, he still has a lot to show, but I'm sure that we've got the right player. Against Spurs - winning balls, area duels, air balls, aggression. Still has to reach his form, better fitness, but it's just matter of time.

Drinkwater and Zappacosta are the players that we all unsure about them, personally I think Drinkwater is a good addition to the squad. I love hard work players, he also can move the ball, hold the ball, he has got the right abilities to play for us. Maybe he could become a starter for us as well, who knows, it's Conte. And the last one is Zappacosta, never heard of him, just by youtube and google ( reports, statistics ). By the reports, we signed a good defender, supposed to be an upgrade for Moses. But I can't really say more about him. I'm going to say he would be our biggest surprise this season.

I think Danny Drinkwater is going to be the one that shocks us the most. Plenty have already pigeonholed him as a back-up midfielder. But i think he could really cement a place in the first team. Mainly because if we play 4-3-3 he will have plenty of options in front of him when he gets the ball, but also be bloody useful when we have not got the ball, unlike Cesc who is admittedly a bit of a marshmallow when we are not in possession.

My personal view, I think Morata is a great addition but I expect many here to be a bit underwhelmed by his first season at least.
Don't get me wrong, I love him but at the moment I feel he's a good player who hasn't reached his full potential or even form yet.
That being said, everyone make sure to vote for him as the player of the month!

Also worth noting, I feel like Christensen is a new signing in the same way Tibo was during the 2014/15.
A fantastic player that's been loaned for a while, finally getting a chance to prove themselves.
Still remember singing "Thibaut, give us a wave" at Turf Moor during his first competitive premier league game.

I was thinking about us vs Tottenham on the final week of the transfer window....

Tottenham definitely showed us how to have an organised and successful final. But then, they bought absolutely no one prior to that whereas we had already gotten the bulk of our signings done by then.

Overall, more players would (as always) be nice. But we did ok really. There's no more major gaping depth holes in our squad.

Caballero - Don't expect much from him and don't expect to see him play much either. He looked pretty average for City and his best attributes seemed to be saving penalties and being decent playing out from the back. Overall, Begovic is the better goalkeeper, but with the quality Begovic has, he was never going to stick around for long as number 2 goalkeeper.

Rudiger - I expect him to be pretty decent for us. I actually think he's already settled in pretty well and already seems to be able to do anything Cahill can do and more, playing out from the back seems easy for him too. The competition at CB is strong and even Azpilicueta will have to fight for his spot this season. This may be hard for Cahill to take, but early signs show that he could find it very hard to get back into the team. That red card could have been the worst thing to happen to him.

Zappacosta - I don't know what to expect from him, i know almost nothing about him.

Bakayoko - Out of all of the Monaco players that broke through last season, he was the one that was impressing me the least, but at the same time i didn't know he was carrying a knee injury so it's hard to tell how good he is yet.

Drinkwater - A bit of a nothing player for me. I'm not sure what he is good at really. Hopefully he proves me wrong and actually adds more than just a bit of depth.

Morata - Great start so far, he's missed a few sitters but also has 2 goals and 2 assists. The best thing about him so far is that he has looked threatening even though he isn't quite 100% match fit, he's playing without Hazard and Pedro and he's been asked to play in a side that has looked a bit thin in numbers. Once Hazard and Pedro return to the starting line-up, i think he will be even more dangerous.
