Posted April 18, 200718 yr I know it's important to spread the game and tournaments around the world, but I can't think of a more unappealing place to host a major tournament...has anyone gone to gliwice? It's a scary place..

April 18, 200718 yr Must admit I am surprised. I still expected italy to get it despite what has happened in recent months/years. However I cautiously optimistic. Yes there will be concerns about the venues and whether they can host the games however you would like to think that this has been successfully dealt with as part of the bid process (otherwise they wouldn't have got to this final stage in the process). I do think it is good that countries with less clout on the footballing map get to host high profile tournaments from time to time as it should have a positive impact on their profile. I know there have been some concerns about match fixing and political interference in Poland but this should have no impact on an international tournament. Good luck to them.
April 18, 200718 yr Whilst im glad that Italy didnt get the gig (they dont deserve it ), there will be a massive threat of trouble in Poland - some of their fans are proper nutters.
April 18, 200718 yr I do think it's good that Italy missed out on getting the tournament, just to punish them for the stadium violence, but judging by what I've read, Poland has one of the biggest problems of racism at stadiums in Europe. It seems that just because Polish clubs aren't playing in the high profile Champions League, the problems in their matches never go in to the spotlight of the media and the problem can be ignored.
April 19, 200718 yr I heard tonight that Scotland and Wales are thinking about putting in a joint bid; either for the one after, or the one after that. Not sure how that would work though. There's the Millenium Stadium of course, plus Hampden, Celtic Park and Ibrox, and perhaps Easter Road and Tynecastle or wherever. Can't see it happening myself.
April 19, 200718 yr I think it's great Euro 2012 will be in Poland and Ukraine. It gives people a chance to visit a couple of countries that aren't the typical tourist destinations.
April 20, 200718 yr Kind of surprised, I tought they were goign to go with Italy. Well anyway I was hopeing for Croatia and Bulgaria, put that's just me being patriotic

Well anyway I was hopeing for Croatia and Bulgaria, put that's just me being patriotic i bet you wouldn't recognize hungary if it painted itself purple and danced naked on a harpsichord singing 'hungary is here again'.

Just thinking about this myself... Make no mistake, the blame for any incidents will be shifted on to the English again.

Like in the movie Hostel, mate... http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gat ... large.html Very true, i forgot about that. But i've been to Russia mate and the birds are stunning (dustbin the image of a russian hammer thrower) and cheap beer (or vodka) are everywhere. I'm assuming Poland and Ukraine are similar countries of course
April 23, 200718 yr I know a few boys that have travelled to both countries. ONe of my mates got hit on the head with an iron bar leaving a pub in the ukraine...basically didn't take kindly to westerners coming in and chatting up their birds! I think with a huge scale arrival, incidents like this might happen less frequently, but if people go in there acting like they are the shi*, then expect the locals to react as anyone proud of their country would. Especially in a country that has only recently (in historical terms) opened it's doors to outsiders Scott
April 30, 200718 yr Going to Poland to watch the games. My work colleagues are Polish. Will be looked after.
