Who played in Jorginho's position, Kovacic or Ampadu?

Ampadu play the regista in the first half & Kovacic played in the 2nd & IMHO Kovacic looked very well - his only problem is that he doesn't pull the trigger - maybe he was overcompensating trying to get Higuain a goal - Slick Willie said as much during the PK - He wanted to Higuain to score in his Chelsea Debut

BTW did you see Trevor Francis analysis of the match? I am sure Sheffield Wednesday fans would loved to seen this

I'm not surprised to hear that. Your fans never stopped getting behind the team. Hopefully the late kick off didn't disrupt travel home too much. Ridiculous scheduling for TV. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Trevor Francis had a great career as a player and manager. Going back to the 70's I remember a game against Birmingham which finished 5-4 to us, where Tommy Langley scored a hattrick for Chelsea, and I think Trevor Francis scored a brace for Birmingham. He then signed for Forest the next season and scored the goal that won them the European Cup.

Ampadu play the regista in the first half & Kovacic played in the 2nd & IMHO Kovacic looked very well - his only problem is that he doesn't pull the trigger - maybe he was overcompensating trying to get Higuain a goal - Slick Willie said as much during the PK - He wanted to Higuain to score in his Chelsea Debut
 
 

Amazing! I thought Ampadu will be much better in that role. Since Kovacic played well there, then we just need a goal scoring midfielder like De bruyne, Coutinho or Eriksen so Kovacic can be Jorginho's back up next season.

Amazing! I thought Ampadu will be much better in that role. Since Kovacic played well there, then we just need a goal scoring midfielder like De bruyne, Coutinho or Eriksen so Kovacic can be Jorginho's back up next season.

I thought Kovacic played very safe in the role and didn't really bring any vision to it. He completed his passes but he wasn't conducting or really aware of what was around him. Plenty of times he recieved in space and his instinct was to play a simple back pass rather than turn and look to take advantage of that space.

IMHO the reason why Kovacic looked better was experience. Remember Ampadu is only 18 years old. He is still learning, while Kovavcic is more of a finished article.

there was this one play where Kovacic made a 50 yard run, but instead of shooting he was looking for a pass. Not sure if he surprised himself by darting up the field & finding space. I will give him a pass because it was his first time playing as a regista for Sarri.
