abramovich
Surely you jest Jose Jose Mourinho insisted Chelsea were the best side during their UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool. The Reds came through 4-1 on penalties with Dirk Kuyt firing home the winner, after Liverpool had won the game 1-0 with Dan Agger pouncing in the first half. Chelsea rarely threatened at Anfield, but Mourinho was adamant that his men should have progressed. "I respected Liverpool always in my words. I don't need to say more and today I think the best team was Chelsea," he told ITV. "It is a moment when everybody has to be strong. "They (the Chelsea players) have a lot of reasons to be proud. They did a great run in the Champions League. "We were the best team today, even against a team only playing for the Champions League. "In extra-time we were the only team who tried to win, but football is like that and the penalty shoot-out is part of the game."
The Brit
abramovich, I think your level of disappointment has blinded you...one, do you really think Jose was going to say otherwise? two) do you really think Liverpool were better than us?
g3.7
the best team... well liverpool created a goal, got a marginally offside goal, worked cech and smashed the bar. but, in fairness, we did get the ball closer to the moon than they did, so that's a victory of sorts. The Brit
perhaps you guys should ask yourselves why liverpool fans were so quiet for most of the second half and extra time..I can remember hearing our fans singing 'it's so quiet at anfield'...why was that? we were playing the better footy and pool were just getting everyone behind the ball to cope
g3.7
go on, chances we created, how many saves did reina have to make? I remember carragher making a quality clearance, and drogba letting a swp cross through his legs in 120 minutes. better side? not. a. chance. youlots
Jose is Jose and will always call it like he sees it and I for one agree with him. The real issue ambro is whether you've: (i) already sacked him; (ii) are going to sack him? enlighten us.
abramovich
Have some of you seen the same match i did? Pool had a number of goalscoring chances and we were poor throughout. Reina had one save all match. As for whether i'm gonna sack Jose or not, i'll keep you posted. I just wish for once he had the class to admit that he was beaten. I'd give him all the love and respect if we lost but played brilliantly, but that wasn't the case. His tactics were wrong, his team plays primitive football despite an abundance of top individual talent and several last gasp winners in the league and great team spirit that was carrying us through most of the season helped hide the fact that our team performances this season were quite often substandard. youlots
Ambro we were not beaten over the 2 legs in "open play"; we were beaten by a penalty shoot-out. As for the comment that our team performances this year were "often" sub-standard, what does that mean? We've only lost 3 out of 35 games in the league, won all our games in the domestic cups thus far & only lost a few games in the CL. I suppose on your measure we have to dominate all our games and win by 3 goals at least, concede no goals at all and lose no games whatsoever or some variant on that: That is, be pretty close to team of the decade if not the century. If not, so it follows, we should sack the manager.....jesus
munichblue
Don't get me wrong, but imagine there is a parallel universe, I would be interested to see our squad playing football managed by Wenger....
Enrico
I just wish for once he had the class to admit that he was beaten. That is unnecessary. But I wish he'd at least shut the f**k up.

I could say the same to you. Ok so maybe they were the better team on the night. But over both legs? Crap. Our performance in the first half at the Bridge was far and away better than anything produced by either side during the rest of the tie. It's just a shame that the HT score didn't reflect our superiority. So if you think of the tie as a whole, no we didn't deserve to lose.
Guest Brian M
Have some of you seen the same match i did?. I'm with AB. JM saying we were the better team on the night, suggests to me he was actually watching a different game to the rest of us. Liverfool shaded a game so dull that had it not been for it going to penalties, 2/3s of the 12,000,000 viewing audience would've ended up in a coma... Elliott
Sure, you have to be gracious in defeat if you are totally outplayed and are soundly beaten, but this is Mourinho for Christ's sake! He will never change! It's what make's him who he is! You show me a good loser, and i will show you a loser. If he did'nt care, and admitted that we were all sh*t, THAT'S when i would start to worry. Mike O
You show me a good loser, and i will show you a loser. Everything that is wrong about attitudes in modern day sport can be found in that statement. God, I hope if you've got kids that you don't instill that sort of wisdom into them.

Leaving my prospective kid's aside for the moment, i play sport to win. That statement will apply to most of the top coaches/managers in football. He will always find it hard to accept defeat; because he wants to win above everything else. I applaud Jose for that, and although it may leave a bitter taste in the mouth's of people from time to time, i would'nt want him any other way. Elliott
Posting picture's and quoting references to films. Yes, all very witty. What this boils down to, is that people actually WANT Jose to go!? They are genuinely thinking that the grass is greener! It's unbelievable. I thought all the tripe would be posted on here yesterday.
Liam
You made a point about winners having necessarily to be bad losers. I posted a photograph which illustrates exactly the point I was trying to make, ie, the most successful sportsman of modern times in the process of being a good loser. And you come back with this: Posting picture's and quoting references to films. Yes, all very witty. What this boils down to, is that people actually WANT Jose to go!? I think there's a general feeling that Jose made mistakes on Tuesday, that we should have and could have got to the Champions League Final. Because of the way we played these feelings are more intense than two years ago and are more directly comparable to the semi-final defeat against Monaco, which Rainieri virtually threw away and which I personally still find hard to forgive. There's someone who would trample his own granny if it would help him win. He may be the world's best golfer but he's an obnoxious little twat. ethicalstrategy
Anyone notice how old red nose rolled out exactly the same stuff as Jose last night. Playing a team only in one comp, rested players, injuries, architect of own downfall giving away silly goals etc etc. All followed by Keys saying "and very gracious in defeat" Bollocks Bollocks Bollocks
Elliott
Liam, I have no problem. Especially not with you. Believe me, i am not interested in tit for tat arguements. I believe that Jose is a winner: As a result, he never likes to lose, or admit when he could be wrong. Sure this can have it's drawbacks, but above all else, i am glad that we have got a winner in charge. We have the best. Ask any other fan supporting Liverpool, United, Arsenal? They would be delighted to see him sacked. They would breathe a sigh of relief. I, personally, would'nt want that to happen. I dont wish to sound patronising, or obnoxious, so i aplogise if that's how it came across. (I dont actually follow golf, therefore dont understand your example). Lofty, I know that people are disappointed. Dont you think i am? So we reach a point now, after being knocked out of the CL Semi Finals, and losing the Title for the first time 3 years, after not winning it for 50, when people have had enough of Jose? Time to go? That's what i dont agree with.
