December 8, 20205 yr I wasn't sure where this belonged but I thought people would want to potentially discuss this as it appears to be pretty disgusting overall. Istanbul player Pierre Wabo was apparently racially profiled by the 4th official of PSG Istanbul UEFA Champions League Match. I do not know the entire story of what happened only a few of the videos and some other tweets from journos that I can find.
December 8, 20205 yr Every one of those refs have microphones so there is no hiding from the truth, but I think people will have differing opinions on whether it is correct to refer to someone by their skin colour.

In this context. It's not okay. And people just need to learn.
December 8, 20205 yr The referee asked the 4th official who on the bench was getting sent off and the 4th official answered "the black one" in romanian. Black being "negru" in romanian. Which lead to the reaction obviously: Really stupid thing to do/say but i don't think there was racist intentions behind it.
December 8, 20205 yr "Romanian laungage" he realised he f**ked up and tried to put it down to translation issue but Demba was having none of it
December 8, 20205 yr Author There might not have been racist undertone intended, the way Demba reacted - who apparently understands Romanian - seemed to show that he thought there was racist intent. Of course, different nationalities, different languages, and it is probably easy to misunderstand one another. Honestly, pretty spot on reaction by PSG to not continue the match since Instanbul didn't feel comfortable. A few years ago, I don't know if there would've been that reaction.

December 8, 20205 yr Doesn't matter if he said black in romanian for me. Officials need to be better than pointing out people on the bench by describing them by their skin colour. It's not appropriate and it's demeaning and that is what demba ba pointed out.

Totally agree but guarantee uefa try to make it quietly disappear
December 8, 20205 yr Uefa should demote and remove that ref, he has no place in CL that much is clear.

December 9, 20205 yr I don’t think the fourth official meant to be racist, the Romanian language made it sound worse. However, he should’ve used some common sense, didn’t need to refer to his skin colour, unnecessary.

I am assuming there is a bit more to this but if it is really the case that teams have walked off the pitch because one person has been described as black, then what is the world coming to? There has to be a bit more to it than just someone being described as black, surely?

December 10, 20205 yr I understood Demba Ba fully, but interestingly the likes of John Barnes and Micah Richards have different takes, but what’s done is done, his careers finished. Think he was silly like I said before, though apparently he may of been called a Romanian gypsy by an Istanbul staff member, what a mess.
