Chelsea is delighted to announce that an option to extend the contract of forward Fran Kirby by a further year has been exercised.

 

Kirby is one of the most renowned footballers across the globe, known for being technically gifted and clinical in front of goal. Since joining from Reading in 2015, the 29-year-old has been influential in our success while becoming the club’s top goalscorer as she approaches eight years in blue.

With 110 goals in 175 appearances for Chelsea, Kirby has enjoyed a trophy-laden career helping to add 13 trophies to our cabinet with five Women’s Super League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, one Community Shield and the WSL Spring Series to her name.

Desparate for Fran to get a sustained run of games again. For me we have lacked that extra bit of spark that she brings to the side.

She looked excellent in the friendly vs Roma. Buzzing around the channels and creating chances from pockets of space. She's also a leader in the press which looked so much better when she was involved.

Pains me to say but I don't think Reiten starts if Kerr, Kirby and James are fit, though the chances of all three being available are sadly unlikely.
