Dave Beasent first season we tried to get him to moon,  think he showed a bit of his arse vs pompey last game of season away. Someone threw a I think it was called a “where’s Willie” toy cock on the pitch and Beasent picked it up and had it sticking out of his shorts!!

Alan Mayes had a big fat arse. Had he mooned half the ground would be in shade.

Could you imagine what an Alan Mayes thread on here would look like or the abuse on a match thread he would’ve got!!

Without question one of the two or three worst players in the Western Hemisphere.

Next time I’m barred might take on “ Alan Mayes Eat My Homework” as domain name

We played QPR a couple of times Boxing Day early 80’s on the vulcanised pitch. What year was there some painted protest slogan on the pitch, and what was the cause?

I think the slogan was Free George Davis. Davis was a criminal in the seventies and early eighties. Can't remember the year though. I remember loads of Free George Davis slogans around the country. One of the cricket grounds had the slogan on the pitch.

I remember that movement however was a good while before - mid 70’s- used to see slogans painted in white emulsion surviving well into the 80’s East End way mostly. Interesting story, he probably was innocent of that charge but shortly after release got nicked again for another blag which blotted his copybook.

Apartheid?

Or there was that " free George Davis" thing ? The " innocent" bank robber who got nicked for robbery shortly after being released 🤣

Oh sorry, someone beat me to it up there

I think we are talking about the Boxing Day match in 81, we won 0-2 on the plastic, Flash Walker and Fat Arse Mayes scored for us.  The writing painted onto the pitch referred to a bloke called Perry Buckland; unfortunately whoever did the painting failed to take account of where the TV cameras would be as the writing was upside down when broadcast!  When Mayes scored near the final whistle at our end we all went mental; when things died down a geezer in front of me yelled out “F*** off Mayes you fat c***” - not bad for scoring the winner!

The following Boxing Day Speedie had a blinder. Terry Venables after said he was the finest timer of a header he’d seen for many years.
Something which I remember from this forum years back- which would definitely fall into the weird category- was gaining entry to Loftus Rd via a pole ladder over a wall!

Both games we took over the whole ground as usual. Interesting choice for your forum name. Remember Timmy Elms making the first team 80/81.

Yes not exactly a household name! One of those fringe players like David Stride, Bobby Issac…mostly reserve team players…we were skint as arseholes back then and not what you’d call spoilt for choice

The protestors actually dug up the wicket at the Oval and poured oil over it, causing the test match to be cancelled.

Cheers. Had forgotten about the wicket at the Oval.

Love watching Minder and The Sweeney- great for odd bits of street graffiti CFC, QPR related mostly cause they were both Euston Production Films, who were base in Hammersmith, and had a practical limit of how far they would stray from HQ for outside shots. Loads round Notting Dale, West Ken , punch up finales round by the gasworks in Imperial Road….Imperial Road, Bagleys Lane…loads of iconic CFC graffiti which survived well into the late 90’s.

There's an episode where they are actually at a game at the bridge. There's a clip on YouTube somewhere

Dennis and his brother Pete Waterman, who was British Champion, boxed for my old club, Ciaus, Battersea

Child actor Dennis Waterman. Chelsea fan in real life. Great film with old Battersea scenes prior to the demolition of what’s know the Winstanley Estate with Suzie Kendall- red hot bit off crumpet - where she crossés the Bridge from Chelsea to see how the other half live- can’t think of mame of film but great street scenes pre slum clearance

Did anybody else go to Wrexham away game 79/80 season when it was snowy. Chelsea charged at Wrexham who retreated problem was it was icey and everybody went arse over.

No, but I did go to Shrewsbury when it was brass monkey weather and Speedie and I think Rougvie started a snowball fight during the warm up before kick off.  Ironically we wore all white that day, maybe to blend in with the snow.  Happy days.
