Posted June 6, 200717 yr ..........Would you love to have been a member of ? I remember asking this to a guy on holidays once , he was mid 40's , long hair and tattoos . When he said Boney M he wasnt joking. I was expecting Motorhead . So , which Band/Bands would YOU love to have been a member of . First up for me has to be Motley Crew, purely for the lifestyle ,just one BIG Party , non stop sha**ing but i doubt i'd still be here today. The Pistols , i just adored them , i was a teenager and i wanted to be Lydon . They came along just at the right time , i had a pain in my arse listening to my sister playing the Bee Gees and all my mate were into Status Quo, Genesis, Dylan, Emerson lake and Palmer . Their style and attitude blew me away . Blondie . Not just because i had the hots for the lead singer . They were NY's hottest punk band until they went all pop and disco but it had a certain edge to it. I loved their image and music .Would have done it for free. Thin Lizzy . Saying you were in a band with Phil Lynott is like saying you played football with Pele , or Maradonna . T.Rex . Bolan was the coolest man on the planet at the time . Revolver ..They were a Dublin band , complete sh*te mind you , but everytime they played in our school , all the chics went mental . Stone Roses....To be able to combine guitar with dance changed clubbing for a short time . Saw them once and thought , jesus i wish i was up there. Madness .. Didnt take themselves seriously and one of the few bands to come out of the 80's unscratched with tons of credibility . Suggs and I could talk Chelsea all day too.
June 6, 200717 yr For me........................... The Who...............Mooney would have been mental!!!!!Always fancied driving a Rolls Royce into a swimming pool!!!!! The Jam.....saw them a few times....what raw energy!! Original Pink Floyd.........just to be with true genius Syd Barrett!!!! Cream.....true super group...would had to be thier roadie!!! Jimi Hendrix............what more is there to say...."Legend" and like your call on Madness !!!!!!!
June 6, 200717 yr I definitely want to be a Pussycat Doll! Failing that, Velvet Underground in The Factory days.
June 6, 200717 yr Very specifically, I'd like to have been in the Stones from between 1969 to 1974-ish (as Mick Taylor was). To have played on Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street and Goats Head Soup (leaving It's Only R&R to one side for a mo), to have been on countless tours of the States and virtually invented debauchery therein, to have had access to as many chemicals, drinks and girls as you could have ever dreamt of, to have played live with Stevie Wonder, to have Keef as a mate and to have met Gram Parsons. And to have had it all before it all got very corporate.
June 6, 200717 yr Many of the ones already mentioned are obvious candidates - i.e. the Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd (with Barrett). The Who, early 70s Stones, Jimi Hendrix Experience, however to be perfectly honest I think if I had been in any of those bands I would have been another statistic in the 'Rock Stars that Died Young' annual!! So my choice would be playing with Bob Marley & The Wailers - it would have been a lot of fun and although still plenty of drugs around it would have probably been slower paced drug fuelled existence!! Also you can guarantee there would be plenty of footie games as Bob loved a kickabout! And it was sunny.
June 6, 200717 yr I think I have to say The Beatles. But only before Yoko came around. I thought I'd say Bee Gees but then I remembered the clothes they wore and I changed my mind.
June 6, 200717 yr Throw as many hip names in as you want but deep down we all know if given the choice we would all choose Duran Duran between 81 and 84!
June 6, 200717 yr the Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd (dark side of the moon/wish you were here era).early 70s Stones, Jimi Hendrix Experience AND Band of GypsiesSo my choice would be playing with Bob Marley & The Wailers - it would have been a lot of fun and although still plenty of drugs around it would have probably been slower paced drug fuelled existence!! Also you can guarantee there would be plenty of footie games as Bob loved a kickabout! And it was sunny. I think Floz might be my alter-ego - I was sorting a list out in my mind and this came up! How spooky is that? Oh and The Specials and Parlaiment/Funkadelic/Bootsy's Rubber Band as well Kev PS - My band went on after Motorhead at a festival one year! PPS Can I add The Funk Brothers (Motown House band in the classic years) and Deep Purple (the original line-up)
June 6, 200717 yr I was going to say the Corrs. But then I'd have to be their brother, and that wouldn't work. So ... I suppose it would have to be the Stones, or the Who. One thing - I've always wished I could play a musical intstument. I've tried all sorts, from guitar to keyboards to clarinet. And it has to be said that I'm complete sh1te.
June 7, 200717 yr AND Thinking a bit more Booker T and the MGs just to be in the same room as the Great Otis Redding Lynnyrd Skynnyrd for Free Bird if for nothing else and finally The Blues Brothers Band - Those guys had nothing to prove but just made THE best music film ever, and had so much fun doing it, and Belushi as well Kev
June 7, 200717 yr For Me it would have to be (and in this order) (as a guitarist) Pink Floyd Oasis The Jam The Clash Fleetwood Mac Metallica Megadeth Led Zep AC/DC Guns n Roses (Lies, appetite and upto Illusion era) Iron Maiden Nirvana (bleach and nevermind era) Sex Pistols just because they were lunatics!
