Fowler we all knew about, but what will happen to Beckham's status as a sarong-wearing gay icon? As for savage, I don't think his reputation could dive any lower.

Well if saying "Poof" was the only thing Beckie did then I don't see that he will get into trouble really. I guess that players have said far worse things on the pitch during games. And I might be wrong but "poof" isn't the worst word I can think of.

Isn't it time for players to take a stand and try to make it okay being gay in football? Considering that there's so many players today then there's bound to be atleast a few who isn't straight. Can't be fun not being able to express ones sexuality while playing football.

Actually, LeSaux went out of his way to point out that he doesn't think Beckham is homophobic. He used him as an example to point out that there is such a prevailing culture of homophobia that even a player like Beckham who has a large gay following and has been known to be gay friendly has used such taunts because they are so accepted and par for the course in the Premiership.
