Who is most to blame for the Barnsley result?

The question was who is MOST to blame. It is designed to be mutually exclusive.

I think its obvious to anyone with half a brain that neither manager nor the player group did well against Barnsley.

Then you have answered your own question - it was collective failure.

some big black bloke, with a name i cant spell or remember, who hasn't scored a goal since he first pulled on a pair of boots at his local park.

I feel that both the players and Avram Grant are to be blamed for the result this evening. Avram can be blamed for the poor tatics he applied for the game, while the players (especially Carlo) are to be blamed for the performance that they put on the pitch this evening against Barnsley.

I would say the Barnsley players for needing no more motivation than playing another big team who thought they just had to turn up to win,

who would'nt be motivated for that?

Players for me although this time its very close.

I actually think Grant was more in the wrong in the CC final then he was today. In the CC final he made some serious tactical and selection errors and poor decisions regarding substitutions. Today I thought the team was fine - granted Malouda has been poor however the team put out should have been more than enough to see off Barnsley and we actually had more than enough possession to create enough to win today.

I am not saying he was blameless today by any means, the motivational issue is there for all to see (I actually thought the team came out in the second half with far more intent then they had the whole of the first half and then it died away again until Barnsley scored) however I thin the tactics were fine today, just the performances within it were poor.

well said Loz. In my opinion, Grants biggest failure was not grabbing the team by the short and curlies during halftime. Add to that not chiding the team from the sideline.

If a manager doesnt have a kick of the ball, but his players have plenty and still miss the net, what are we doing blaming him for one result?

My grievances with Grant run deeper than this game, but he wasnt most responsible

The team did come out for the second half with more impetus. But sadly they'd mostly forgotten how to play football. Exceptions being Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge.

Freak result in my opinion. Their goal was a goalkeeping error , nothing more and if they hadnt scored then they wouldnt have thrown the kitchen sink behing the ball. Granted we should have pissed all over them and been in a position well able to beat them well but our performance was shocking and embarassing. Grant it seems to me cant communicate with the players , motivate them or influence them with his thoughts. If that was a Jose result im sure he'd have been sacked as soon as the final whistle went . Roman wants attacking flair football , that was his intention in sacking J.M. so time for him to speak up and explain his decision to give Grant the job.

Excellent post Westway !!! My thoughts exactly. The players KNOW that Grant is not up to the job !!!! That's why they fail to respond to his "gentle" touchline urgings.
