Plan A

Happens allthe time in football though - especially when you are one of the big names and you know you will be able to attract some big hitters as options.

A plan A or plan B can only be firm if you have had discussions with the potential replacement and if you do this whilst the current manager is in charge you end up doing what we did to Claudio and that was unacceptable in my eyes and did the team no favours either.

the bottom line is grant was not the man to take chelsea forward. wether roman knew that when he made him manager or realised at the end of the season doesnt really matter now. he realised it and is hopefully setting in place a structure to stabalise and build the club.

You know how feared position the England squad manager is.. we are probably just after that. Finish second and you are out immediately. Roman probably was going to sack Jose just after we came second two seasons ago but people turned his head around to give Jose another chance.

We truly need a great manager who can talk to Roman. Is there any? Who knows.. Hiddink, maybe.

But as Loz is saying what we are doing this time is the exact opposite of what we done to Claudio, there fore it could be argued that we have learned from our mistakes!

Exactly. Also given that before the season has ended we would be firming up plan A and plan B with managers who are currently in a job with another club then we would be guilty of a ;evel of tapping up that Kenyon has been heavily criticised on this very forum for doing. Additionally managers who show the sort of loyalty we might now be looking for may not be prepared to talk to another club whilst they are focused on their current position. Not everyone is like Jose who was almost undoubtedlt discussing his future with CHelsea whilst preparing for a CL final with Porto.

Agreed with this. We need a guy who can talk to Roman one on one, have his trust, and be given the time needed to build this club.

Jose was that guy, but we made a mistake. I think Roman has learned after that debacle that he might be the owner, but thats where it should end. At least, I hope to god he has learned.

The whole long term aspect makes me pine after the quality young guys out there, like Laudrup or Hughes. I dont know if I want to trade off youth for skill or experience, but I think these guys have it all.

But if we dont win at first, they have to be given a chance, even if there are growing pains. Reassess the situation after a couple of seasons, but please, no knee jerk reactions.

also, jose made a mistake on taking on roman. jose wanted everything his way. unfortunately that wasnt gonna happen with roman. both sides were to blame for jose leaving, and i can understand joses unhappiness over certain things pushed onto him. but roman wants to run chelsea like most european clubs are now ran. the manager manages, others do other things.. like transfers, youth team set ups etc.. i expect hes walking into exactly the same thing at inter, so it will be interesting to see how he copes with it.

or in fact the lack of one; did we really sack AG without a plan A or a plan B?

I would have liked to have thought that our man was already in the bag, and we'd pick him up after the Euro08 was finished, but the recent speculation of 'the Chelsea board want Hughes', 'Roman want Anchelotti' and the debacle being played out in the press, I'd say we haven't got anyone lined up and no-one finds the post actractive enough, unless financially motivated.

Weither or not any of it is true is another thing, but once again it looks like another PR disaster by the club if you ask me.

like you said, its being played out in the press. the club have issued one statement to distance themselves from the rubbish in the papers and on sky and various internet sites. so its not as though the club are involved in a debacle, just the press looking more and more foolish.

I still reckon it's Hiddink or Scolari then.

If we've not approached anyone over the past few weeks while managers are getting snapped up all over the place, we must already have one! It's the only option that would make any sense

So who do I reckon after Hiddink?
