I'll take an average Hazard over the best Joe Cole everyday of the week, to be perfectly honest.
Don't take me wrong, I like Cole, but Hazard is a game-changer, he's not just someone who can win you a game, or even a season, but he does it with an element of magic, he won't just give you a trophy to remember, but an experience with it. Players like him are rare, maybe five or so every ten years. We are very, very lucky to have him.
Cole, at best, was a solid midfielder. A great guy, but when it comes to football, he had been stuck in the very-talented all his career and never reached the world-class-player stage. 

According to Squawka he's the best in England and ahead of Messi. No doubt, Joe is right, he's the best player in this squad by a mile and possibly the best Chelsea ever had even right now.
Not many Chelsea players were ranked so highly by independent sources, if any.

He had an opening to shoot vs Swansea but instead he went down the byline and gave Costa a tap in, that's what i love the most personally, he basically plays percentages in his head. 

It's also important to note that Makelele won two league titles and an FA Cup with Chelsea. There were many very good games by Kante, but right now Makelele's legacy is still a bit bigger.

Makelele doesn't believe that Kante is at his level yet - Maka doesn't believe Kante is doing enough in the leadership role - he may have a point & can see where Maka is coming from - when Maka first came to CFC, the club was simply 2nd best - Maka did help CFC goto the next level - don't get me wrong, CFC was solid before Maka came, but the club did become World Beaters with Maka's arrival - IMHO the same could be said about Kante - CFC were 10th last season & the team that Kante was on were Champions - now CFC are top of the Table & Leicester are struggling - many point to the transfer of Kante - I am one that agrees w/ this assessment - maybe Maka is becoming a bit cranky in his old age & doesn't like the comparison of Kante & himself

His passing hasn't declined. He's never been the ball-winner. He can still shoot, still take corners, still score penalties. Why has he been benched again? For being slow? Matic is as slow. Sillly. He'd still be getting 20+ assists per season if he was at Barcelona. We don't have their forwards, I accept that, so cut that down to 12 or so for us. He'd probably exceed that if given the amount of game-time he deserves. 
Also, considering he has more accurate passing than literally any player on planet earth, why isn't he plopped into the Pirlo role like in Juventus, the 3-5-2 not so different from our own? His speed is then a non-issue, and he gets to control the tempo..
