New Manager in the Summer
You mean the game immediately after we'd tied our club-record winning run with half the squad injured and the other half in Africa? Even Jose drew league matches occasionally. Except for the matches against ManU/Arse/Liverpool, Grant's done better than we had any right to expect in the league. You can argue that he's not good enough against elite teams to win us a trophy, and given the evidence so far I'd completely agree with you. But he has gotten some things right. Not disputing that Mourinho drew occasionaly games, fair enough we almost* broke the club record. My point is that these were hugely important games, or else I would have brought up Fulham, Everton and Aston Villa;) The Liverpool and Portsmouth games were when we needed the points to put pressure on the teams above us and actualy participate in the title race as we waited weeks and weeks for Man Utd to slip up so we capitalise, they drew with Tottenham, we didn't take advantage as we should of. So after waiting for them to finally slip up we failed to win when it mattered. Question was when was the next time they were going to slip up considering it took the so long to do it the last time? We were in luck and they got beat the next week, a chance to make amends and claw back some points, we didn't deliver, yet again.

Three defeats doesn't sound that bad actualy, three defeats and eight draws on the other hand...

New Manager in the Summer
True. But never is that difference highlighted more than in a final or against other 'big' teams. And in all of these games, Grant has been found wanting. Your judging this on what.........3 football matches?. Any idiot can pick up a side and win or lose you a few football matches off the bat. Great managers are great managers because they can gradually improve a side over the long term. By no means three big games. The Liverpool game? How about when the top three won all they games and when we played Portsmouth, the time we actually needed to win to gain momentum, and when it really mattered, Grant didn't deliver. Or the Schalke game? May not seem like such an important game now but at the time it was a big game and yet again he didn't deliver. Make no mistake about it, we qualified from that group because of the incompetence of other teams not through skill. The Olympiacos game as well? That was a big game, didn't deliver. Judging on three games? F**k off mate, his failure in all the games that mattered.

Carling Cup Final
I wouldn't like to guess the answer to that dkw, it's a very good question, my take on it is after not much success for a long time Jose came in at the right time for Chelsea and Jose, he had a very good team put together by Claudio and starting to look like proper contenders, Jose then had a great season and his first 30 or so games were pretty much the same results wise as Grants, bar 20 minutes even with some very bad tactics and lak lustre players Grant could have had the same Cup as Jose at this stage, He was getting some respect until that game and insult to injury it had to be against Spuds, Jose had the luxuary of Stevie me scoring a blinder or the results would be closer Your question as I digress I feel that it was a perfect time to take over a very good team when Jose came in and as Roman had been here for a short time its almost like the two came hand in hand, the results followed and us having the funds to buy Drogba's and Essiens that we could never before have contemplated made the job more comfortable, this was a winning combination that makes comparing Jose to any of our previous managers unfair IMO, I like to imagine what Ruud would have done with what was availlable to Jose and what style of football we could have seen, I think by season 3 under Jose other teams had begun to play better against our strangling style and by this season others had improved whereas we had not. that said the trophy haul and records set were phenominal and credit to Jose for what we achieved, The reason I have gone through this is because I think a lot of people associate our success and Jose without giving much credit to the success and Roman fact, I realise Claudio had a short time with Romans backing and he done ok but I feel he done better than ok and I think he started the winning chelsea ball rolling, he got a great squad together and was on the right track, even the CL exit where he got everything wrong (ala Avi in the CC final) must have been a nerve rattling time for him with Jose waiting to step into his Job, no wonder he cracked and put JFH in at RB I just cant think of circumstances better than Jose had in his first season to help a man to legend status (which he deservedly has) so back to your question, If Jose had come in after a man who had got the Job and got the Job done in the same circumstances Jose did then I believe he would have no chance, I do believe though he would have a few more people ready and willing to give him time purely because he had huge personality and charisma and everyone loves to see someone holding there own in the old mind games and stuff like that, obviously everyone knows I stick up for Grant and it's not because I think he is a great manager it's because I am not sure that he could'nt be. I'll have some of what Chippy and dkw are smoking please. I think you guys are missing the point completely. If Jose had lost......but he didn't! He might have, of course, but he didn't. And therein lies the difference. Winners and nearly men. Doesn't make Grant a bad person but it does make him a bad choice for manager when you have ambitions to carry on winning things.

Carling Cup Final
Of course he would have been given time, he was top of the league, I think we had just beaten Barcelona in the Champions League and we were playing really well with every player showing a desire to fight for the teams and win medals.

Carling Cup Final
They haven't made any noticeable impact perhaps? Anelka has played fairly well but nothing more than that. Ivanovic is trying to get fit you say? Considering Grant said when he signed it would take him one or two weeks to be match fit, that was ages ago. I'm not saying anyone should be dropped for him, if hes good enough he'll play, so far he hasn't played so therefore he is deemed not good enough. It seems harsh on the lad but I'm not in anyway judgeing him, no one has even seen him play, but I am judgeing Grant and the point in this signing. Two totally conflicting views and we could argue all day about this but it does seem to me you're being loyal just for the sake of being loyal, IMO But yes I look forward to the next game and I honestly hope we have learned ALOT. But I think the writings on the wall, the pressure is on more than ever now and we don't look like winning anything and with what seems liek most of the fans against him fully now I don't see him staying.

Carling Cup Final
I know I am the resident bad guy on here because I support the bloke but surely you can see that this squad is Mourinhos and it was being found out before he left' date='[/quote']Mourinho didn't have the full squad to chose from before he left' date=' whenever he did, he delivered.[/quote'] I doubt thats strictly true but if it was I would argue that he had had time to get to know the best formations and players for his style of play, again Avram has not had this as Anelka and Drogba have not even had much time together in training, Grant has not had a full squad to choose from either until yesterday and has done pretty well, We can compare the two managers forever but the hard fact is Grant is the Manager now and has Managed a Team put together mainly by another Manager, I think to change the style he will need the Summer window and to mould the team another 3 or 4 months, He is unlikley to do as well as Jose while trying to set the team to play close to his way as Jose was a master of that style, where we will see and therefore be able to judge properly is when he has brought players in to play to the style he wants, then and only then will I Judge him, You have already judged him and may have done that before his first game in charge (a guess as I couldn't possibly know that without checking back through a million posts) If your Judgement is from what you have seen over the last couple of months, I take that back although IMO it would still be too soon to Judge. To be honest when he was appointed I had my doubts just like anyone else but I gave the guy a chance. I wanted to see how he good he was tactically, see how good at man managing he was, how good he was in the transfer market and how he could compete against other big teams. Tactically he has shown nothing, often apearing slow and unable to read a game and it has cost us in games. His man managing don't look to hot either, yesterday being a prime example. I waited for the transfer window to come along and for the man to make his mark, he bought Anelka, Ivanovic and Di Santo. Di Santo being one for the future fair enough, Ivanovic doesn't get a game so that to me means hes not good enough. Anelka was bought to guarantee goals right? He hasn't exactly delivered has he? Don't get me wrong I like the guy and have every confidence he will score plenty of goals if played in the right position so Grant had to change the formation to fit him in or leave him out of the team, he has done neither, instead playing him in the wing where he apears lost and it also ruins our whole formation in the process. It is only since the Carling Cup final that I have made up my mind completely about Grant, untill then I had stayed quiet about my views and given him time but after yet another failure in a big match I've had enough, he IMO is simply not good enough. You say he needs three or four months to change the style of the team and get them playing the way he wants to, pity Grant doesn;t see it that way mate, from waht seems like his first win he has constantly claimed to be playing this attacking football so that excuse doesn't wash. 28 games surely is enough to know if he is the man to take us forward Other Managers have been sacked for less so IMO his times up, hes not good enough.

Grant out?...
Many will say I'm getting ahead of myself but I'm sick of watching the crap Grant puts in front of us, yeah the players aren't putting any effort in, their not playing for the shirt bla bla bla but Grant is clearly not tacticaly good enough, hes not a good man manager, hes not actualy any good at anyhting really... So lets pretend he does get the boot, who would you want in charge? Personally I think Mark Hughes should be given a break but who would everyone else want?

Carling Cup Final
SWP has no future in a Chelsea shirt for me, he simply can't cut it as a winger and he won't get played in midfield as there are better options. I thought Mikel had a bad game, Anelka wasn't in the game, but SWP was terrible.

Carling Cup Final
Terrible passionless performance, tacticaly outclassed in a big game yet again, its clear we won'y win anything with Grant in charge, he MUST go. The players played terrible but at the end of the day the tactics were all wrong, Grant gives no confidence to the players or fans. He has no excuses, fully fit squad for the first time in years and no wins You can only get so far copying another managers tactics. Grant has taken us back 5years, he must go before we go even further back, or worse, become Liverpool.

Is Malouda a FLOP yet?
Mikel is one of the hottest young talents in world football and Alex, who is hardly a young player, is a Brazilian international with plenty of Champions League experience. Totally agree witht he Malouda/Sinclair situation though

Typical Arsenal
Is anyone else sick to death with Arsenal complaining about anything and everything when a match doesn't go their way? Arsene Wenger's comments after the match were just typical of the man, nothing to do with another average performance and his teams failure to take their chances. Sure they have a massive reason to be upset, the injury to Eduardo was disgusting but it was clear to anyone that the player didn't mean to hurt Eduardo and he was genuinely upset about what he had done to the boy but is one mistimed tackle really deserving of a life time ban? It just shows the true charactor of the man that because Eduardo's career is in threat of being over then Taylor's career should also be finished. He was obviously then told how his comments would be perceived and was told to retract his statement but what I heard on MOTD didn't sound like a retraction or an apology. He then went on to complain about the referee. Fair enough the referee didn't have the best of games but according to Mr Wenger Birmingham's first and second goals shouldn't have been given and Arsenal should have had a penalty. All of these incidents are arguable but it just reeks of Wenger who would blame the tealady before he rounded on his 'young guns'. To be perfectly honest I'm sick of hearing about anything remotely related to Arsenal, in my house phrases like, "Your an arse" and "My arse is itchy" (both said alot in my household unfortunetly ) have been replaced with, "your an anus" or "My bottom has an itch" or else I erupt. My best mate is a 'GOONer' and I've had the, "Wait till next year when we've matured" excuse for what seems like a lifetime. The team, manager and fans all reek of arrogance. The whole William Gallas captaincy situation annoys me further, the fact that he quite clearly isn't captain material but yet not one of their fans will see past their blind loyalty for the idiot. The Nani situation last week was disgusting I thought, the kid was accused of showboating even though all he did was keep control of the ball and for that he was kicked off the park, another examples of the worst losers in the premiership. Terrible winners and terrible losers. Theres dozens of examples of this but the one that sticks in my mind was when I think it was last year or the year before Blackburn held them to a draw (or won, I'm not entirely sure) and Fabregas made a snidey cheap remark about Mark Hughes playing for Barcelona, I don't really know what his point was, did he genuinely expect Blackburn Rovers to play like Barcelona? Anyway I'm utterly sick of the whole club and something had to be said before I exploded

Avram Grant's Father to be Special Guest at Final
Well said mate. The man clearly deserves respect.
