HarryH75 reacted to chi blue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmI will second that ersk, one of the few times we could give it back to those Herbert's back then, can still remember it now, me and some mates had arranged to meet at my house to go down park to play football, as we were getting on our bikes, a huge shout came from our bathroom window where my old man was decorating the bathroom, 1-0 Rhodes brown, we all went off to park, Liverpool supporting mates as well, no way of keeping up with score as we had no radio, as we arrived back at our house at 5pm, me fearing we had lost and mates convinced we would, my old man came jigging out the side gate 2-0! I turned to my mates who were already scuttling away on their bikes, i gave them an escort all the way home taking piss!! Didn't see em again until Monday morning!

HarryH75 reacted to chi blue in Vintage Blues pictures and filmBeing in the Green man on semi final and cup final days and seeing all the lads in their 50/60's, I know my two boys who are trendy, cool, good looking and in their early 20's (if only I was that age again) were in awe of all the old gits, knowing what they experienced back in the day, me? well I am their old man so I'm not cool! and to young anyway I'm only a baby at 48!!!!!!

HarryH75 reacted to Osgood is Good in Vintage Blues pictures and filmMy first match the old man took me to I was 7 years old, Ipswich at home 1970.
The old man used to park the car in or around Lots Rd, where Chelsea Harbour is located now, wasn't called Chelsea Harbour back then, think it was a power plant. Walked to the ground through the streets of the old prefab homes, which my dad told me is where Alan Hudson grew up. We queued up at the Shed End main turnstiles, and as the queue for the 'Boy's Entrance' was so long I stood in the Adult queue, and was lifted and passed over the turnstile when the old man paid.
Once inside we climbed what seemed to be the never ending concrete stairs. With every few steps the noise of the crowd got louder and louder. The smell of the hamburgers and hot dogs and then Bovril in the air, as we reached the top of stairs. "Peanuts, peanuts, roasted peanuts", you could hear from the sellers with the wooden trays hanging from around their necks. I was tingling with excitement as I looked out over the ground, for the first time. I was hooked. Looked at the North Stand at the other end of the ground, The Shed was to my left with all the chanting, and to the right, near the old concrete flood light stand in the corner, is where my dad met 4/5 of his friends. All throughout the game I was looking over at The Shed, just wishing. Muck fe I will never forget that day, and to make it all the more memorable we won 2-1 with Hudson scoring the goal that never was.
From that moment on I went regularly with my dad until I was 14 and was allowed to go on my own, hello The Shed, happy days !!

I`m 49 now but like a lot of guys have said above the 83/84 season in Div 2 was special , at the time I was 16/17 and went a lot of the games above which have been mentioned , I`m sure there are a few guys who remember the 84/85 season first time back in Div 1 for a while - Tottenham away - lots of moody tickets available hundreds if not thousands for the seats in the Chelsea end above the terracing , me and a few mates got tickets from a good mate knowing they were moody ,
Previous home game word went round to meet at Liverpool Street , I remember turning up with my mates and being gob smacked looking down from the stairs their were 2000 + Chelsea boys , no women or children just lads proper lads no colours what so ever , if memory serves me right we went over ground to Tottenham Hale , it would have taken 2 -3 trains to get that Chelsea firm to WHL .
The train lot I was with went straight to the ground , we were sussed straight away at the turnstiles old bill checking tickets , gutted should have been there earlier and could hear Chelsea singing in the ground , that day I bet there were hundreds of Chelsea boys sitting on each others laps during the game , for all us thousands who did not get in there would have been hundreds who did get in.
As for trouble the only bits I saw was down the bottom of seven sisters road by that estate where the Tottenham Riots had been not long before , about 20 or 30 black lads steamed out of an ally and straight into us , Chelsea went straight back into them , job done but left it there , not sure anyone fancied going on that estate at the time, ended up having a few beers in some north London pub and a few more beers in Victoria before going home , Chelsea bossed the day and Tottenham could not live with us on that day
OK not huge numbers in the ground ( sold out allocation plus another couple of thousand all over the place ) but huge numbers without tickets or moody tickets on Tottenham`s patch , Chelsea here Chelsea there
Happy Happy Days
