Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
People on here think I'm mad, deluded, crazy or all three. Maybe I am, but regardless of what personnel we enter this coming season with I'm always optimistic. I more than understand the false dawns we have had time and again with Torres, but I refuse to drag myself or my hopes for this season down because of what has happened previously. Can we win the title with Torres ? Of course we can, I'm a glass half full kind of lunatic.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
I'm with you on that, of course there is a limit, I wouldn't be as strong to say he is 2bob (if you are) he of course has not been the 50 million revelation we had hoped for. Maybe I'm putting too much hope on the Mourinho factor, but I truly believe we have the right man to do it if anyone can. I'm not blase about this either, it really is a case of being happy out that Jose is here and I believe will put us on the right track. I would prefer he take stock during the season and identify the proper player that we need rather than rush out and make an impulse buy (as we did with Torres).

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
I would have thought having a manager who believes in you , gives positive vibes is better than being told you're done as a player. Do we honestly think that is how you manage a football team ? I remember watching some programme when Jose was in charge before. It was the morning of a match or close enough to it and Jose is up the front talking saying 'you cannot lose this match'. It wasn't a threat it was him stating that we wouldn't lose. Confidence breeds confidence , to me it's part of what separates normal managers from 'the special one'. Will it be enough for Torres ? I don't know , what I will not under-state is the power of the mind. Towards the end of last season when Ferguson was talking about this upcoming season he was talking about main rivals, he said with Jose back Chelsea will be a major force. That is part of what feeling Jose has given us all in coming back , it surely rubs off elsewhere.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
Firstly I'm an optimist anyway its just my take on things and it won't change. I've said a few weeks ago that I felt he should be sold for his and our future fortunes. I've also said that if he goes he goes with my best wishes and if he stays he gets my full support. It perplexes me that a player who was part of a team who has been exceptionally successful in the face of a bad couple of years with managers gets so much bad feeling. I agree with you all that he is not prolific as he should be, his touch can be rubbish, his shooting is wayward, but there are moments some glimpses that give me a buzz. As long as he keeps trying, keeps going he will get my following I refuse to become like the manure fans now saying they couldn't give a f**k about Rooney give him abuse if goes, but sing his name if he stays. Torres is blue, maybe not the greatest blue, but blue nonetheless, if he stays I hope he has a super season.

Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
I'm not giving up on a Torres revival under Jose. I'm sure I seen an interview with Frank where he said in his previous spell Jose called him aside and told him he was the greatest player in the world and it made him feel 10 feet tall (or words to that effect). The point I'm making is if he can supply this feeling, confidence towards Torres as he has done before with other players I'm hoping he can make a difference. Lets not forget the impact he made (along with all other players) in the CL win of 2012 and the Europa of 2013. I'd like to think we are different than other two-bob fans who turn on their players. He plays for Chelsea, I'm not giving up, so he gets my support.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
Can't bring myself to push play on that one.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
I don't believe a transfer fee of 40 million is good business, although I don't believe we would go that high for him. In comparison, which I know can be a mugs game, you only have to look a RVP for VFM. Put in a maximum offer, no more than 30 million possibly a bit lower 27,28, let Rooney put in a request and leave it there. If we get him grand, if not Romelu, Torres and Ba have to step up, which I'm not afraid of either way.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
I'm not too concerned with us 'showing our hand' so to speak on him being our only target. The bottom line is it has been made public prior to agreement or refusal, I don't see how it puts us in a weaker position. If Utd want to keep an unhappy, out of favour player, with savage wages on their books when I suspect a decent offer has been made, to try and hamstring us into paying more just because we have made our position clear, more fool them.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
CFCCAN ^^^ The part you say about Rooney wanting number one spot guaranteed is the bit that worries me if we take a punt on him. We can't take someone on like that (IMHO) , if he wants a guarantee like that he should go to le Arse. But it is all guess work on my part, and as you say if Jose thinks he is the right man , then I'm happy enough with that.

Kevin De Bruyne
When we played against Genk, KDB was the head and shoulders player in their side. I thought he could be a very good player. The more I see of him, the more I read and hear of him particularly from other fans, the more I'm convinced we have an exceptional talent with us. With Jose's arm around his shoulder he could go onto becoming a superstar. (I hope!) So to sum up, I'm fairly happy he is with us this year.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
Since the bid was made official yesterday, I've been trying to see which side of the fence I sit on regarding Wazza. 1) He is a fine player and to be honest any team would welcome him. 2) He is inconsistent. 3) He has thrown his toys out of the pram on more than one occasion when things aren't going his way. 4) The wages. 5) It will drive Utd fans mad. 6) Does he think by moving to Chelsea that he would get what he wants, i.e, to be the main man ? 7) Following on from point 6, how long til point 3 rears its head again ? 8) I trust Mourinho. 9) Refer to point 8 after points 1-8.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
I don't believe a word Hunter says never have. He is asking us to accept that Mata or Bob would be refused by Utd in part of a deal to get rid of a player who clearly has had enough of Old Trafford. So not only would Utd turn down the opportunity to get a superstar in Mata and rid themselves of a troubled Rooney, but we would have to be stupid enough to offer him as part of this deal. Media sh*te once again.

Kevin De Bruyne
Whether or not he is up to PL standard at the moment is a guessing game, but I will say that with Lukaku he certainly seems to have stepped up. I know he didn't get much of a run with us prior to his loan but he looked awe struck at times, so the loan system has benefited him and us. With KDB if we can bring him back and give him a chance I would love it, his pace, touch, intelligence all suggest enough to me that he is worth bringing back. i don't know enough about Schurrle, but if the bundesliga is too weak to give KDB credit for his time with Bremen then surely the same applies to Schurrle. It just seems like we have a talented player in KDB who could flourish with us now, without the need to spend 20 odd million on someone else. I am however no expert on the german league so would bow to others more informed opinion.

Michael Ballack testimonial match
I have felt for some time that when we had the likes of Ballack and Essien playing for us, we had a couple of players who had that nasty streak so to speak in them. Maybe intimadation might be a better word, but they were big strong men, and gave us maybe a psychological edge over teams, who knew before the whistle even went that they were in for a tough time. Now whilst I wouldn't change our smaller lads, to have someone a bit more physically intimidating in there (possibly Essien ?) wouldn't be such a bad thing. Anyway back to the thread, delighted to see so many big names turn out for 'Mikey', well deserved.

José Mourinho Confirmed as Chelsea Manager!
So I'm up early watching SSN before leaving for work. Mourinho is all over SSN as we would expect. They have this fella in there (a Journo) going over the stories on Mourinho returning. He starts with Henry Winter's column, which was quite complimentary towards Jose, which doesn't go down too well with this fella. Who then goes onto say his column in the Independent doesn't really agree with Mr Winter. It's at this point the SSN host, tells the journo that he doesn't write for the Independent, he writes for the Express, I kid you not. To rob the twitter hashtag. #doesn'tknowhisarsefromhiselbow.

REALISTIC expectations for next season.....
I would love us to win something but I would be happiest as long as Jose is still with us. I have always said I would support unconditionally, and given the last few months, to have a manager who I will support , trophies or not makes me very happy.
