Posted January 13, 200916 yr Luiz Felipe Scolari has taken the blame for Chelsea's loss at Manchester United on Sunday, but says they must now pull together if they are to bounce back. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...sea/7826560.stm You gotta respect the bloke for coming out and saying it, now it's time to put the words into actions.
January 13, 200916 yr Nothing else he could do really but you still have to respect him for that. The team is also practicing new zonal defence system in setplay situations. That is something we really need to practice. We could also practice scoring goals.
January 13, 200916 yr Zonal? a recipe for disaster if there is one. Defending set plays is simple ,pick up the man your given, stay with him, clear the ball and put 2 defenders on the post just in case.

January 13, 200916 yr New zonal defence system ? The defence wasnt broke was it, certainly wasnt before LFS arrived on the scene. amen to that defending should be as simple as possible if in doubt put it out, its difficult for the opposition to attack when the balls in row z, and it gives time for midfielders to get back
January 13, 200916 yr What do you do you have to give Scolari a chance you can't change your manager every time the results don't go the way we like. When the season started we looked good I did not hear any complaints,we have to wait until the end of the season and see what happens I think we should be ok if not and we do change Scolair don't we just come like Spurs and we can all see what they are doing :)
January 13, 200916 yr up until the last few weeks we had played 12 games away from home and only let one goal in so there wasnt a lot wrong with the defence. and it wasnt too bad at home either. over the last few matches though i think the fact we didnt have a settled central partnership hasnt helped, but also a lot of the goals were from poor marking at set pieces or mistakes. and im not really too sure what scolari can do about that. the players should be taking on more resposibility, its not like there all rookies and dont know what to do. i dont understand this crap about them suddenly not knowing what to do, they are all seasoned international defenders and shouldnt bloody need telling where to stand or what to do.

It's a mystery why we don't have anyone at the backpost when we're defending corners. It should be a standard procedure.

January 13, 200916 yr Nail, head. i thank you. i need your help in another thread gem, im car buying at the moment and need some expert help. what colour do you reckon?

January 13, 200916 yr As usual, DKW has it right. It wasnt broke, dont fix it, just start focusing out there and do the little things. Conceeding a single goal to Man Utd from open play is nothing to be ashamed of. Take out the set piece disasters and we have alot more wins in the past month.
January 14, 200916 yr You gotta respect the bloke for coming out and saying it, now it's time to put the words into actions. Whatever his faults, Scolari is no fool but I think it has taken him a bit of time to realise that certian players have been mugging him off. He needs a bit of time to show that he can turn things around and as long as we see action then I'm happy for him to have that time. What I don't want to see is the same players that have played the last few games keep getting picked and then not giving anything like 100%. I'm hoping we see some fresh faces (and legs!) tonight against Southend. I understand he has already dropped Drogba and that's a good move. I think we can lay to rest the theory that despite his other faults, when selected Drogba always works his bollocks off and gives 100%. Edited January 14, 200916 yr by Nibs

Some people might think I need my head testing but I'm 100% behing big Phil. I think he inherited an aging squad with players who clearly are not fit to pull on the blue shirt. Could he really have been expected to come in in the summer and immediately get rid of Drogba and Ballack, he would have been slaughtered!! Give him time, this summer he must change the personnel, more youth, more attacking flair and Mancienne 3rd choise behind Terry and Carvalho!!

An aging squad that a mere 8 months ago were the better team in the Champions League Final and pushed the Mancs all the way to the Premiership title. It's an aging squad. Number two in the list of excuses that's been made for Scolari, see this thread for a few of the others: http://www.theshedend.com/index.php?showtopic=10124 And also for reasons why I think that's all they are - excuses. It's not even about the number of poor results we've had lately - it's about the way those results have been (not) achieved: the mickey mouse, schoolboy defending, the almost total lack of creativity - the lack of chances we're creating is astounding - we managed one shot on target on Sunday, and that was a long range effort from Ashley Cole. Not only have we forgotten how to score, we've apparently forgotten how to shoot. And then there's the one dimensional pace of our game - totally lacking in passion or anything else. Even back in the '70s there'd be more commitment from technically inferior players - and for the life of me I can't believe that this lack of pace, lack of creativity, dearth of goalscoring opportunities and all the rest of it, is down to anything else but Scolari's mis-management. Of course I hope things pick up (somehow) for the remainder of the season. But unless there's a sudden, drastic change, I really can't see much further than more of the same. Sometimes "ageing" doesn't mean that you can no longer perform, it could be that the hunger has gone, the hunger that young blood would still have. I'm not saying "past it", I'm saying that to me too many players don't look like they have the desire. Let's take last season for example, sh*t manager and yet those players (yes as you correctly put it the same players) still run the Manc's close and lets face it should have won the champions league, if they could get motivated for Grant then why not Scolari? For me we need a shake up, give Scolari time and see what happens in the summer. If we're still in the same position this time next season then I would totally agree with the general opinion.
