Posted April 2, 200916 yr After Mexico lost 3-1 to Honduras, Sven's been given the boot. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12010_5135772,00.html What will the odds be for him taking over next season? And there was some muttering about a bid for Zaki at the beginning of the season, but after a severe drop-off in form and frequently pissing off Steve Bruce...: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...and&cc=5739
April 2, 200916 yr Author I can't believe some supporters actually want this guy at The Bridge next season! If he does, the real question is... who will be Smithers?
April 2, 200916 yr Everyone's seen this one coming, he has been dreadful. Too much time in the night clubs Mr. Sven.
April 2, 200916 yr Sven's reputation in England is always going to be tarnished by his time as England manager (although lets not forget he didn't half start well) however surely we, more than any, have learned that success at international level is to success at club level what teeth brushing is to paperback writing. Sven's domestic managerial career is littered with success in Sweden, Portugal and, in particular, Italy. Even at City he took them to a semi respectable top 10 finish despite the club constantly being splashed across the papers because of the background of the then owner.
April 3, 200916 yr The man's a fraud. Christ knows what he's had now in pay-offs for being sh*t at his job. Unbef**kinglievable.
April 3, 200916 yr God, Sven's time as English manager wasn't even bad, surely? We lost to who? Brazil and Portugal? Both were far better sides than we were. And he still got sacked. Then he did a fantastic job at Man City, and again he got sacked. If he was younger I'd love to see him at Chelsea, but since he's nearing the end of his career, I'm not so keen.
April 3, 200916 yr What I cant understand is, he has a good record as England manager, at least he got us to major compititions.. for some reason we are so arogant as a nation, we think we belong there, we are the scousers of international football..think we are much better than we are just because we have some success in the past. Sven was very good England manager, he was an very good Italian league manager, he was not doing too bad building something at Man City..... He should never have been at Mexico. I dont actually want him as Chelsea manager, but we could do a lot worse.
April 3, 200916 yr Sven will be at helm at Newcastle next season, it's a dead cert. God help them. That'll be another nice pay-off (which they can ill afford) 12/18 months down the line.
April 3, 200916 yr God help them. That'll be another nice pay-off (which they can ill afford) 12/18 months down the line. sure, if they are stupid enough to sack him.
April 3, 200916 yr Author sure, if they are stupid enough to sack him. Does no one else think he might end up back at Man City? He has a good record at average sides with loads of money... ¬___¬
April 3, 200916 yr sure, if they are stupid enough to sack him. Or even more stupid enough to appoint him in the first place.
April 8, 200916 yr hey all, Personally i think Sven has proven he is a very good club manager as shown in Lazio and even city. BUT i wudnt trust him as far as a midget cud throw him cos i think he wud take us for millions like he did the FA. plus i reckon he wudnt be that loyal either, not if someone came in with a more lucrative offer IMO and we need stability and a long mangerial reign now. cheers, <_<
April 9, 200916 yr Sven is a real enigma. I want to like him because he seems like a docile enough guy, but there seem to be so many rumors about his personality and behavior behind the scenes that I have to wonder what's what. I wouldnt mind seeing him at Newcastle. A club and a manager i dont really have a dislike for are a good pair in my mind. I think he would probably have them finishing in the top half with some good buys. I feel like he is good at taking a solid but unspectacular team and probably getting the most out of them. Of course, if Shearer saves them from relegation, its all a moot point
