Calum Davenport stabbed in the legs

Featured Replies

West Ham United footballer Calum Davenport is having surgery on both legs after he and his mother were stabbed, his spokesman has said.

Mr Davenport, 26, and his mother are both in a serious condition after being stabbed at their home in Bedford.

Police said the attack happened late on Friday. West Ham said its thoughts were with the player and his family.

The defender and former England under-21 joined West Ham from Tottenham for £3m in 2007. He had a spell on loan for Sunderland last season and also played for Coventry City.

A West Ham spokesman said: "The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff.

"The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the on-going investigation, no further information will be released."

Shocking and just a little bit suspicious considering his legs were the target.

Jesus, what a crazy happening. I hope him and his mother make full recoveries and they catch the scum that did it.

I know knife violence is a little crazy of late, but I had not yet heard of an incident of it coupled with a break in (dont wanna rush to judgment but that is my guess

Its bad enough to be attacked by some gutless criminals, but to have your mother attacked too must be infuriating. In Davenport's shoes you'd almost want to kill the people that did it. I mean, your own mother? Jesus christ

Hmmm very odd, hope they both recover, particularly the mum

Seems there was more than one person involved.................

One of the two men who reportedly attacked and stabbed West Ham United defender Calum Davenport and his mother early this morning, leaving the footballer in a "serious" condition in hospital, has been arrested by police "on suspicion of attempted murder".

Davenport and his mother were attacked at 5am this morning outside their homes in Bedford, and both were rushed to hospital, with the ex-Coventry stopper being forced to undergo emergency surgery to his leg.

A 19-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident and is still in police custody, but Bedfordshire Police have now confirmed that a 25-year-old man has also been arrested for attempted murder of Davenport.

A police spokeswoman told Goal.com: "An assault took place on Springfield Avenue at 5am this morning. A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital having received a stab injury. He is still in hospital and is not thought to be in a life threatening situation at this time.

"At the same time a 49-year-old woman was also injured and taken to hospital from Springfield Avenue in Kempston. She is also not thought to be in a life threatening condition.

"The 19-year-old man who was arrested this morning shortly after the incident is still with police at Greyfriars Police Station

"But in the last few minutes a further man, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and he has been arrested in Derby. He is due to be escorted back to Bedfordshire for questioning this evening."

Neighbours and witnesses say that Davenport was stabbed "several times" and that there was "blood everywhere" at the scene of the crime.

One neighbour, Anne Desics, 61, who lives down Springfield Avenue said, "I just thought it was people passing by but then the ambulances came.

"I didn't see the incident, I just heard all this shouting. There was quite a lot of blood."

West Ham have issued a statement, wishing Davenport and his mother a quick recovery.

"The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the on-going investigation, no further information will be released," the statement reads.

Utter scum, hope they stab the f*cker in the legs.

Nah, he'll get a fine which will be reduced due to compassionate reasons.

And they did not tell Goal.com FFS! They've probably issued a full statement to everyone.

very strange this. so both he and his mother were stabbed outside their own homes at around the same time? theres obviously a lot more to this than we know.

Utter scum, hope they stab the f*cker in the legs.

Nah, he'll get a fine which will be reduced due to compassionate reasons.

They'll probably sue the Davenports for blunting their blades.

There was an 85-year-old woman arrested not so long ago, when some scroat tried to climb in through the window of her bungalow. The glass fell in, seriously lacerating him, and HE sued HER!

The old bill arrested him and her at the scene and she was facing a long ordeal in court.

The law is surreal.

This is absolutely disagraceful. Not only was the attack entirely malicious, but they also stabbed his f**king MOTHER! I hope they make a full recovery and they batter the c**ts who did it.

Apparently he may lose his left leg

Apparently he may lose his left leg

jesus, thats terrible. i wonder what our lovely courts will give for something like this where a man loses his livelyhood to utter scum. 6 months jail and a months councilling no doubt.

Apparently he may lose his left leg

Unreal. I hope thats not the case.

At least his mother is okay. I hope whoever did this does suffer. Some of the stories you folks share about the legal system in the UK really are beyond belief. The one youre talking about there, Ken, is like something out of a movie

How the hell is it ABH?! The knife didn't slip out of this guy's hand and fall into both Davenports legs!!

God alive, this is ridiculous.

Really. really. hope this guy get's better.

apparently the guy in custody is the boyfriend of Calum Davenport's sister (was reported on radio 5 this evening).

Very strange...

Davenport had a go at his sister for the company she was keeping. The toerags got wind of it and decided to "teach him a lesson". That's pretty much it.

Apparently the guy that did it, is a drug dealer. Davenport bought his sister the house she's living in... with him. The guy was dealing drugs from the house and sh*t, so clearly Callum wasn't best pleased about the situation.

Isn't Bedford great? :139:

My mum works in the hospital he's in, so she's excited about the prospect of Zola turning up... is that wrong? :139:

Isn't Bedford great? :139:

Spent about 5 years working in Bedford in all. Got some good places but Queens Park was the buggar when I was there. Had many a run in with druggies from down there.

Still is, these days. This all happened in Kempston, though. I don't suppose you know Elstow Road. The Kempston end of that.

Yep know it well. I live near Wellingborough so not exactly a million miles away.

Nice sister.........NOT!!!

While doctors fight to save the left leg of Calum Davenport, the West Ham defender’s alleged attacker was watched in support by his girlfriend - who also happens to be Davenport's sister.

26-year-old Calum and his mother Kim, 49, were both attacked outside their property in Springfield Avenue, Bedford, at 5am on Saturday morning. Calum was stabbed several times in both legs and was rushed to hospital along with his mother.

A main artery in Calum’s left leg was severed, causing him to lose pints of blood, and he was forced to undergo emergency surgery as doctors battled not only to save his leg but also his life.

Worrell Whitehurst, 25, the boyfriend of Calum’s sister Cara, who is expecting his baby, was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as causing actual bodily harm to Kim.

Whitehurst appeared in court today to hear the charges and a brief outline of the case. On the request of Prosecutor Toby Earnscliffe to refuse bail, Chairman of the Bench Robert Balchin remanded Whitehurst in custody.

Cara was present in the public gallery to witness Whitehurst's appearance. As he entered the courtroom, she burst into tears. Upon leaving the court she offered no comment to the gathered media.

Whitehurst will next appear at Luton Crown Court on November 16, while a 19-year-old who was also arrested as part of Bedfordshire Police investigations has been bailed pending further enquiries.
