John Terry digs deep to rescue Chelsea Ladies after funding cuts

The Chelsea and England captain John Terry has come to the rescue of his club's women's team following a cut in funding that, says the captain Casey Stoney, would have adversely affected Blues' hopes of chasing major honours this season.

For the first time since officially becoming part of Chelsea FC five years ago, the women's team have had their annual budget reduced. "It was a blow when we were told what was happening," said Stoney, who also works as a coach at the Chelsea Academy. "I mentioned it to a friend who's also a mate of JT's, and when he was told about it JT came to find me at the training ground to ask if he could help.

"He ended up putting his hand in his pocket and persuading some of the other players to do the same, so now we can keep going on the same footing we had last year. We need that level of funding if we are going to compete at the top end of the Premier League and do well in the big cup competitions, so the help we've had from the guys has been invaluable. JT has also become president of the women's club and he's been with his family to see us play, so he's taking a real interest."

Gem, Moi, Jane, and all :D :aren't we a bunch of cash-poor Chelsea Ladies ( :P ) too?!

I wonder whether the budget cuts are a club-wide thing... Nice response though from JT and the other lads who put up some money. The love of Chelsea is clearly not limited to the first team!

Such a selfish pig bar steward that JT. Paying for ladies to entertain him. Shameful.

i know, i mean i wouldnt do that. ever. again. .... :)

well done JT, now lets see if any of this makes to the media or will they just totally ignore it as its good news from chelsea as usual.

I do it all the time. But the difference is that my charm and stunning good looks are all the payment that a lady needs. The alcohol costs don't count.

Yes, this will probably be ignored by the media but I think the problem is that it's ignored by the average football fan. They latch on to the negative stuff way more than any story like this.

Where are the people on here who question JT's integrity? Guess this topic has conveniently skipped the eye.

Bump.

Tell me who they are Gem? I'll sort them out.

I agree Val, I too have been dealing with funding cuts and think we all deserve a touch of JT's generosity. Mind you I'm not sure I should make too many jokes about him "digging deep" for me, it just might be misconstrued.

get over it gem...so I have a different opinion to you...isn't that what a forum's about?

yes fair play to him for this gesture, but this has nothing to do with my view that he used city's interest to get a new deal.

And for the umpteenth time, I was happy he stayed, just not the way he went about things.

"Get over it" - why should I? I'll use this forum to share my opinions as advised.

My comments aren't aimed at you, I don't even remember who made the comment about counting his money, bit like some things in life, they stick with you and I've no problem in making reference back to it.

EDIT: Jane! Argh! Great to have you back!! ::clap2:: and I wouldn't tell you coz you'd easily have the beating of them and that just wouldn't be fair ::clap2::

don't mean to be sensitive, but considering it was just me and one other guy on here who dared to swim against the tide on the JT issue, you can surely see why I may think you were aiming your jibe at me...also I have read quite a few similar comments from you since I raised the issue, just haven't chosen to bite until now as I don't want to fall out with fellow chelsea fans...of course people can disagree with me, as long as they respect my opinion in return...besides, my 'get over it' comment was also meant to encourage us to move on as it's old news now...there's other things to be worried about like our defending at set pieces...plus other things to be enjoying, like Liverscum's results at the moment!

;) Okay Brit, fair enough, well put. I'll let sleeping dogs lie.
