Chelsea fans in 1976

Featured Replies

Thanks for posting that - Great Link.

25p & 50p to get in. And boy what a fashonable lot we were!!!

Some other good Chelsea stuff on there too - will have a closer look when I have a bit of time.

North Stand, i owe you a drink for this link mate, i never thought i'd see that fottage . That was the Chelsea i grew up with , a time when i went to school thinking of nothing else but Chelsea but was too young to get to a game. Looking at the fans , the hairstyle was yours truley @ 13. and i wore those flared trousers too , big blue and white striped scarf and hoping Chelsea would be on The Big Match. I'll probably be up all night looking at that link . That was an era i loved being a Chelsea fan.

Who's the opposition? My first thought was Man City but I don't think we played them in 1976 so my guess is it's Fulham and the Boxing Day game. There's a big crowd in the film and the attendence for that match was 55,003.

I'm sure the date is before 1976. Houseman and Kember are shown coming out of the tunnel, and they didn't play for us that year.

EDIT: Just had another look. It was Man City - Colin Bell was the last but one man out of the tunnel. It must have been shot in 1974-5, the year we went down, and the notes next to the clip say "Issue Date: 1976", which is not necessarily the year it was shot.

I'm pretty sure the game was from the 1974/75 season against Manchester City (12 April 1975). The attendance that day was 26,249 - the Shed End looks crowded but wasn't really, there was no crush at all so far as I could see, and I bet the North Stand end was nearly empty, City rarely took any fans away.

Backbiter just beat me to it, that was the year we got relegated and the week before the match at WHL where thousands of us were locked out.

The second player emerging from the tunnel is definitely Colin Bell of City, and then the Chelsea players shown were John Hollins, Peter Houseman, Ian Hutchinson, Charlie Cooke and Steve Kember. All these players played in the 74/75 game, but not in the 73/74 match.

I was looking for myself in the footage, but then told myself not to be so silly - the lads in the film look about 12 years old or so, and I'd have been 16 by then, and more than likely in the pub until just before kick-off :o

I was wondering what year it was. thanks for that I knew the team was manciteh.

I do remember going to Chelsea v Manciteh in the FA cup in 70/71. I was standing in the East Stand Lower. We lost 0-3. Gutted doesn't quite get how I felt that day.

I was at that one as well - couldn't believe it, especially as we were the FA Cup holders at the time. Even though we were missing Eddie McCreadie, Alan Hudson & Tommy Baldwin, we couldn't really claim the excuse of a weakened team - Bonetti, Boyle, Harris, Hollins, Hinton, Webb, Weller, Cooke, Osgood (Dempsey), Hutchinson & Houseman - not a bad side! Naturally, I blame Sexton! :)

City were a class act then mate

True, they were a good side back then, especially with the likes of Colin Bell & Mike Summerbee in the team. Still, we got our own back later on in the season by beating them in both legs of the Cup Winners Cup Semi-Final ::ChELSeAFaN::

Fantastic footage; red white & green scarves aplenty! - I'd almost forgotten how it was fashionable to have your scarf around your wrist - and not a replica shirt in siight!

Nice to see the shots on the terracing - wobbling on the edge of a concrete step, something not likely to be experienced again.

Glad flares have bitten the dust though- bloody awful

The Bay City Rollers must have been in their heyday at the time, did you clock the wee guy with his tartan scarf. ::clap2::

Definitely 1975 - Hollins, Houseman, Hutchinson, Cooke & Kember. Man City - Tueart and Bell and a dodgy keeper. I was 19 by then so didn't use the boys entrance. Did you notice how there were zero girls or women in the shots ? Chelsea were utter sh*te that season, but didn't stop Chas wowing the crowds - he was 32 by then. I remember the relegation clash at the Lane - Wikins made captain - lost 2-0. We went down with Luton and Carlisle I recall. It's like another world.

Remember that well, always had spares handy. An alternative method used by the old bill was if you had DM's on, they'd stamp down hard on your toes to see whether you had steel toe-caps on. If you did, you had to remove them, if you didn't you had crushed toes.

Do you remember that scumbag n well known to all blues, inspector that used to love throwing out n arresting us, for just jumping up n down when we scored...Tall skinny bar steward, with a molester type face. Loved his little moustache.I remember on a knees up mother brown scenario i caught his beady eye..He pushed thru guys to get to me..Pulled out most of my flowing locks..Dragged me out nearly breaking my arm..Slung me out of the gates..When i remonstrated he grabbed me again, twisting it even further than b4 n said he was arresting me, i

was lucky enough to struggle free of the sadist n legged it calling him a c**t...AHHHHH NOSTALGIC DAYZZ
