for a start..................ballack, deco, paulo - not on the pace any more and don't have a positive influence on the game

challenge will be who to replace them with without spending £30m+

Q. lamps still good enough?

Lampard is definately still good enough, ballack still has a lot to offer as does paulo, but for me,deco has to go,if we can get 4m for him i will be happy

Paulo did ok today, but its not fair on the guy that he's probably 3rd or 4th choice right back.

If Deco would be ok with playing a rotational but borderline backup role in the club i'd say keep hold of him too and Ballack is still 1st team material but god i'd love it if he took a paycut to help the team out.

Kalou, needs to go. We've given him chances and he just isn't at Chelsea's standard

Belletti, dispite being an ok utility player, could probably do with being sold too

Players which I liked to see out in summer:

Ballack: Should make way for younger players (Matic), will be 34 next season and is past his peak, Still has something to offer but we need fresh blood in midfield

Belletti: Same as Ballack

Carvahlo; Alex and Ivan are better options to partner JT at CB

Deco: lost pace but if he finds back good form till summer he should stay because he is one of the few really creative players that we have

Kalou: No improvement since he arrived from Holland. Should make way for Sturridge and Borini. And in my opinion we need a new quality striker.

Hilario: Not a big fan of him. Decent back-up but would like to see a new goalkeeper at Chelsea. Someone who can put some pressure on Cech. And hes already 34 ...

mikel also needs to be shown the exit door

Kalou, Deco, and Mikel. Going, going, gone. If I were Ancelotti.

I think Ballack might NOW be a better central defender than midfielder. One of my alltime favorite players, but I have to say what I see and that is he's too slow and bulky at this stage of his career. Especially compared to our other mids.

Ballack has to go...I joined the game late and didn't realise he was playing until 20 mins into the game.

Deco - fair weather player doesn't like the winter pitches.

"Hilarious" - His performance today confirms my suspicions..he is a dodgy keeper

Ferrier - 3rd string - for an international he must be pissed does enough to justify staying, Ivanovic and Boswinga will be hard for Paulo dislodge

Kalou - just seems he can't get to the next level

Yeah I'd say the same as a lot of you. I'd rather get rid of the dead wood, in the following order of priority:

1 - Ballack

2 - Ferreira

3 - Deco

4 - Belletti

5 - Hilario

6 - Kalou

We need younger legs to replace the top five, and anybody else would do in place of the sixth.

Hilario ?????????????????????????????? Are you being serious ? I do not think we have lost a game with him in goal.

Whoever is spreading this Hilario/Beletti hatred is delusional. Some of the best squad players you can get....who do you want to replace them who costs the same every week and has the same experience and quality for cost ?????????? cause you ain't getting in a 130 000 a week Alonso, we cannot afford it !

Be realistic we cannot have someone like Alonso as cover for Essien. Beletti is a great guy to have lying around the place.

Kalou, Mikel, Ricky C, Deco and Ballack can all bugger off. Bring through Bruma, Matic, Kakuta and buy two more high profile players. We will save a few quid and have more than adequate cover.

Anyway this thread is a bit pointless seeing that we could have a 2 window ban and thus would not be wanting to sell any players.

Deco, Ballack, Malouda and Kalou should definately go.

Paulo is quality back up. As is Belletti so they should stay.

If I recall correctly, how often did Mourinho change from the 4-3-3? Not too often, and that didn't do too badly if my memory serves me well.

Deco because he's too much of a fair weather player and in the immortal words of Corporal Jones 'He doesn't like it up him!'

Kalou because he's just not good enough

Mikel (possibly) I can't make my mind up about him. Sometimes he tackles like a demon and breaks the attacking sides play up really well, other times he gives the ball away lazily and concedes too many needless free kicks in dangerous areas.

I'd hang on to Belletti. He was excellent yesterday until he was forced off. I'd let Paulo go if he's going to get first team football, but I'm not sure we can afford to lose a great deal of players at the moment. Ballack and Deco, for all their deficiencies, are probably good enough to hold onto, although I'm sure the club's budget wouldn't have many objections to getting rid of Ballack.

Ballack is a great player, as was Deco. However, I think Deco's contract is up at the end of this year so we should let him leave. I also think that Ballack is up soon, so we should let that contract expire too. Ballack leaving would make way for a youuth team prodct to come through, but Ballack is still an excellent player and I'm not advocating him being shown the door.

However, if we are trying to become self sufficient we can't have ageing players continually signing one year contract extentions and continuing to coin in 130k a week! I'd rather that money be used to pay a couple of the youth team products to start making the grade in the first team.

Hilario is a great back up keeper, and Turnbull is still a bit raw so I don't know why anyone is wanting to get rid of him.

Paulo I thought he signed another 4 year deal about a season or so back. He is a great defender, although his positioning (like his compatriot Percy) can be a litte off at times and leads to him having to se his pace and tackling to make up for it. Anyway, he seems to be happy as a squad player nad is a great option to have.

Mikel, I would not get rid of. I still think he offers a composure on the ball that you rarely see in a player of his age when put into a defensive midfield role. I will say this again, his break up of play is great, and his short range and long range passing is very good. People will say that he's not enough of an attacking threat, but you're not meant to be as a defensive mid. Look at Makelele; when he started many people were critical of him for many of the same reasons and look how he turned out!

Kalou, decent back up but if he wants to go I'd let him and give his place in the team to Sturridge. In fact, I already see more in sturridge than I've seen in Kalou so i'd not be overly upset if he were to leave.

Carvalho. Great defender, and formed a brilliant partnership with Terry over the years, but his positioning and lalst ditch tackling can't continue as his legs age. I'd rather we see terry and Alex or Terry and Ivan in the middle heading forward.

Summation: Deco - gone. Ballack - contract expires and frees up some cash. Paulo - stay. Hilario - Stay. Kalou - make way for sturridge. Percy - thanks for everything.

'Hilarious' does not cut it for me...he has been lucky he has got great defenders in front of him ...he has a sh*te game on Sat despite the win...he had very little to do and when he was required to do something he nearly screwed it up and let Preston back in it. With the amount of games the second string plays I'd rather have Turner. As for Belletti a good utility guy but getting up there in age. It's about time some of the youngsters are given a start especially against lesser opposition, no need to go nuts and put them all in, it needs a blend of experience and youth. I couldn't understand why the kids did not get a run out against Sunderland especially at 5-0...

for a side at the top of the table (or close to it) an awful lot of players seem to be "not good enough" in the eyes of some.

providing we can still sign then I'd see deco as replaceable, along with kalou.

I do think we have too many rightbacks, so with a heavy heart would let go of paulo and possibly beletti.

that's about it. ballack has a huge amount still to offer IMO, likely as a first choice player, while riccy does too (possibly to a lesser extent).

getting rid of experienced players in the first 11 and replacing them with kids who have played less than 4 games for the club is madness- being polite there. that is a policy that serves individual players at the cost of what is most important- the club. wenger did it at the cost of challenging for the title for a few years. if he did it now, with man city on the up, it could have been costly even as a long term strategy.

in time ballack, lampard, carvalho and drogba will need replacing. whether matic and mikel will prove good enough to be first choices remains to be seen (mikel has shown enough to say he could, but is going backwards while matic we know next to nothing about). ivanovic's best form by a mile has come at fullback, and his performances in the middle this season have been a long way off the standard required.

I don't understand the rush to replace players who have had a massive say in our league position, nor do I see replacing a lot of first choice players in one fell swoop as a good example of continuity. the last time we did that in comparable circumstances was when ranieri brought in lampard, gallas, zenden and petit. after that we went through one of those "transitional" periods we so enjoy observing in north london.

from the first 11 we only need to fix the deco / joe cole position buy going into the transfer market. we need a striker who can genuinely compete with drogba and anelka. that is it. since we have the luxury of easing in the young players already at the club, shouldn't we take advantage of it?
