Gem Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 This isn't one of my "of if it were Gerrard who was England captain and cheated with say... Peter Crouch's ex, then the press wouldn't care" threads, it's more - how we would react? None of us here have entertained the thought of stripping Terry (well) of the captaincy, but what if it was Steven Gerrard? In all honesty, I truly hate the c**t, but I don't think I would. I would want him fired coz he'd be sh*t, but not for any affair. I guess this can be said with hindsight, I've been on a few forums this evening and I'm quite surprised how many have said similar - never wanted him as captain in the first place, but to get rid of him for this latest scandal is ridiculous. Mancs originally wanted Rooney, scum wanted c**tilocks, it's all that sort of stuff. But whilst they'll more than happy to have him removed to suit their own players, the affair really doesn't seem to have had any real impact with a change of opinion. Yes, there are some chickens and sheep who will cluck and baa away to whatever they're told to - but the most seem to have a balanced view. When Beckham got sent off in the 1998 World Cup - I was 10, and I hated the guy!!! What a scummy thing to do - kicking out like that, made us lose! The picture of a Beckham shirt strung up by the neck will be one I remember forever, coz it was just so extreme. He got booed and absolutely trashed by EVERYONE. It's only in the past 4/5 years that I've actually seen it for what it's worth - shocking propaganda. People wanted him banned from playing for England again if I remember correctly - now he's the media darling. I dunno... I just wonder how I, and the press, would reaction if it wasn't a Chelsea player.
The Moos Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm gonna be completely honest here. If it were Gerrard I think the press would react and write about it. Maybe not as much as they are now when it's Chelsea-captain Terry, but they would cover it. It's not like the player drove a bit too fast or was drunk at a party. We are talking about a married man sleeping with a teammates (club or country) girlfriend/wife (or had they split up at that time?). It is a big thing so it wouldn't matter who it was, they would still write about it. On the other hand the press hasn't really liked the idea of Terry being captain so I guess they want to have an extra dig at him because of that. Gerrard would be much more popular and therefore they wouldn't scream for him being kicked out and stripped of the captaincy as much. Some would, but not everyone. As for myself I would do what I expect most of us would do, which is being a bit hypocritical and demand that Gerrard be stripped of the captaincy and kicked out from the England squad. Let's face it. Many of us who defend Terry here (though I haven't actually defended him to be fair) would not waste a minute before turning on Gerrard. Or am I wrong?
Hutch Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 honestly? if it was gerrard i think the press would report it but they would take a completely different viewpoint. there wouldn't be any of the near enough universal vilification. if he was england captain there would no way be calls for him to be sacked or stand down, of course i'd take the piss, but i wouldn't call for his resignation - not over something like that. i wouldn't want him as england captain anyway because in those few games when he was captain of england he didn't appear to be up to the job. make no mistake about it, this is a media witchhunt. it would take something remarkable for saint steven or wayne rooney or even ferdinand to become a similar target.
dkw Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 i would want him kneecapped and smashed in the face with camel cocks for 24 hours. but thats nothing to do with if he did anything, i just cant stand the twat.
Liam Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 JT is my favourite ever Chelsea player. But if he wasn't a Chelsea player I'd hate his guts. That's the way it works. It's no different for other fans and to be fair while the press may be out to get him he seems hell bent on providing plenty of material. The main problem with him is that despite his ultra high level of footballing intelligence, off the pitch John is not very bright and seems slow to mature.
The Machine Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 If it was Gerrard that did what JT did I do not think the media would not be as extreme compared to what is going on at the moment. I cannot believe that media are so determined to see JT stripped of the captancy. It makes me sick!
BlueBeard Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 i would want him kneecapped and smashed in the face with camel cocks for 24 hours. but thats nothing to do with if he did anything, i just cant stand the twat. I agree entirely. And congratulations on the use of the camel cocks, love the image :D
lauren Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 and of course Gerard is completely squeaky clean and never hit anyone in a bar! Beckham has never played away either and what about Rooney?
South Beds Blue Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 and of course Gerard is completely squeaky clean and never hit anyone in a bar!Beckham has never played away either and what about Rooney? Here lies the hypocrisy; it's OK for us working class chappies to shag prostitutes and start fights in pubs, but have an 'affair' with a colleagues partner! who does he think he is? an MP OR SOMETHING?! I'm sure all this crap will die down shortly, and even the scum from the Sun etc. will realise that to remove Terry from his England position would cutting off our noses to spite our face. NO-ONE Else is up to it, certainly not that scouse prick, Shrek, or the ageing Beckham.
clubhappy Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Maybe the tide will turn when details of money laundering and criminal links will eventually be revealed . If you think J.T.'s story is sensational , wait till you read what hopefully happens next . Saying nothing ok, but its waiting time in media land and the source comes from 2 years of investigation. They just need enough proof to go to print.
icecoolguy22 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 If it were Steve, he'd be made a national hero and sex symbol for getting one over a french maid.

geezer Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 He would be knighted by none other than Prince Charles himself for having learnt so well from the future King on how to dirty your own doorstep
TheWestwayWonder Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 If it were Gerrard I absolutely hate the bar steward as much as most other fans hate JT, so I would probably want him stripped of the captaincy (assuming I was english and had a stake in what happned) to restore order in that dressing room and quash any potential split. But if the same details eventually emerged, that the couple had been split up by then, that she had come onto him, etc, then I might retract that view with reflection. But we're talking about a man who punched someone in the face on video with no provocation and was given a verbal fellating by the PROSECUTING barrister, so I doubt any of this would actually come to pass. And if it was Gerrard, the media's own campaign wouldve gotten him the armband in the first place, more than anything. If that were the case its not very likely they would be so quick to jump on the bandwagon to make him give it up. I think they would take the "naughty footballer gets caught again!" angle.
chelsea gal Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 aww poor ter i aint impressed by what he did but only ones he let down is himself and his missus !!! Alot of players in his position would hav ohh i dunno faked an injury or somethin to get out of havin to play, but he didnt he remained the legendary captain we have all grown to love. The press will get bored eventually they always do ffs the special one kept them in jobs for a long time!!! Its what happens when your in the public eye. It will pass i'll keep defending him (did ye see what i done there 'defending' him !!! Ok ok forget it it sounded better in my head !!!!!!!!!
Barry Bridges Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I'd wonder how someone who has missed half the season with a groin injury is able to screw french underwear models. Aside from that, I'd wonder how it was relevant to football? When he was in court, I laughed that he was a stupid tosser, but I still said "Hey, I'd have him on my team!" See, I dont watch football for rolemodels, I watch it for the beautiful game on the pitch, not the morals off of it. Leave role modeling for the parents. If the parents are relying on a role model to raise their kids for them, then the kids already doomed and they shouldnt of had any to begin with. And if you are looking for role models, what kind of idiot expects it out of a 20-30 yearold who has never had to really live in the real world of adulthood? Its like picking a dentist because they have nice teeth, even if they dont have a dental lisence. Its like picking a lawyer because thry drive a nice car and wears nice suits, yet they havent passed the BAR. Its like taking someone who is 24, worth millions, has everything given to them/done for them, is in the media 24/7 but has never done anything in their life aside from playing a game and collecting cheques, and essentially hasnt had the time or experience to mature like a normal adult....and determining they should be a role model! That'd be really stupid, no?
mimilee Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 To be honest, I couldn't care less what Gerrard does off the pitch. So, take the piss a little and laugh at some jokes - take the piss on JT, no, laugh at some jokes, yes. I'm not English, I just happen to like the English team and cheer for them besides my home country. So, who's the captain isn't really my problem, I just like the fact it's a Chelsea player I happen to admire for his footballing. Sure, Starfish is not a bad player, only I happen to dislike him.
