Posted March 20, 201015 yr James Milner is getting better and better down at Villa and I'm thinking the potential is there to play for us. He's not the most amazingly gifted footballer in the premier league but his work rate more than makes up for it and since moving to centre mid he is reminding me of Frank Lampard at that age. If Ancelotti is insistent on having the diamond as his favoured formation Milner would be a perfect fit to replace the ever declining form of Ballack. Playing from the right he has the legs to both cover the middle and track the opposition left back. Another plus would be he's English as there are new rules coming in next season regarding the amount of home grown players you must have. I know we can only go off of the form he is currently showing but he seems to have the right attitude to want to learn and you can't help but wonder what training with some world class players could do for him. If we need to inject some young blood this coming summer I would be more than happy to see the club sign Milner. What does everyone else think?
March 20, 201015 yr Wierd, I am watching Villa-Wolves atm and I was thinking the exact same thing. You can't help but enjoy the way Villa play, and Milner and Young are a big part of that. One of those two would do nicely I'd suggest. Young can play on both wings, and Milner is terrifically versatile something that's always required. Wouldn't mind either in Blue to be honest.
March 20, 201015 yr Yeah, I've been thinking about Milner for a while too. He can play anywhere in the midfield and do it well. Offers something different...and is English.
March 20, 201015 yr I think you just jinxed him. Milner just scored an own goal to put Wolves 2-1 up at Villa Park. I do agree though, he is an excellent player. He wouldn't come cheap though.
March 20, 201015 yr Milner is good, but I am a huge fan of Young, he is a fantastic winger. Edited March 20, 201015 yr by Zola
March 20, 201015 yr He's good and the chances are he will take Joe Cole's place in the world cup squad. But He's already on his third club and with the players we have plus the youngsters coming through, we really don't need him.
March 21, 201015 yr I'd have him in a heartbeat. Energetic, box to box, two good feet, scores goals, 100% effort, speed (not breath taking mind), likes a shot... No chance that we'd bid for him but I can dream.
March 21, 201015 yr I think Kakuta can play in the hole behind two strikers. I'd much rather we groom him for it, although Milner has improved greatly.
March 21, 201015 yr Too average imo. Werent they saying similar things when we signed Lampard ? £11m....waste of money........total bargain imo. :(
March 21, 201015 yr Werent they saying similar things when we signed Lampard ?£11m....waste of money........total bargain imo. Yeah...lets sign just sign every average player.
March 21, 201015 yr I think Milner would be a great addition to our squad. He is getting better and better. We need decent wide players and Milner fits this bill.
March 21, 201015 yr I don't think he's good enough. I think he'd turn out to be another Scott Parker,Steve Sidwell,SWP type signing, looks great in a decent team but never good enough to hold down a regular spot in a top top team.
March 21, 201015 yr I think he's a great player, but it's not hard to look great alongside players like Sidwell and Petrov...
March 22, 201015 yr Yeah...lets sign just sign every average player. We're well on our way... Ballack, Kalou, Deco, Hilario f**k man, seriously? Milner average? Are we talking about the same Milner? The same Milner that's pulling strings in team in serious contention for a top 4 slot? You'll be telling us Ballack's good next
March 22, 201015 yr Martin O'Neill really deserves some credit for how he can mold talent. He is starting to do with Downing what he's already done with Milner. Yeah...lets sign just sign every average player. Have you been watching him this season? He moved from the outside into the heart of Villa's midfield and that move coincided with them getting even better. He was absolutely on fire earlier this season, scoring and setting up goals for fun. If he is average, then just who the hell should we be trying to sign? Pato and Messi or bust? If Villa miss out on the Champions League in may, I think Milner is a Man Utd player by August.
March 23, 201015 yr By far the best player at Villa Park today and thats not an exaggeration. He is putting in consistent performance week in and week out, he's got a great engine, he's versatile and at the same time gets his share of goals. He is the kind of player that we need to buy in the summer. He wont come cheap but the risk factor is far less as compared to someone coming from another league.
March 23, 201015 yr I think that he isn't good player for Chelsea. If we sign him, he will play badly.
March 25, 201015 yr I think that he isn't good player for Chelsea. If we sign him, he will play badly. Can you share the basis on which you have passed this verdict ? Edited March 25, 201015 yr by Maverick
March 25, 201015 yr Milnerinho. Now that's a player we should buy. Edited March 25, 201015 yr by snitrbt25
April 11, 201015 yr 3 reasons why we should not think about signing james milner: 1. he was born in leeds 2. he grew up supporting leeds 3. he played for leeds for 8 years, only deserting them when they were relegated. this is a rumours section right? well ok for all we know, JT deliberately steamed into him yesterday because he got mouthy, something like "if i was wayne bridge i would have.... " for instance.
