sleepy_gonzalez Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Good or bad? Will this end up being good for him, or convincing him that like Stoch he needs to go elsewhere? Will a bit of time in serie A give him the necessary preparation for a jump to first team premiership action? http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/07/23/2038583/bologna-want-chelsea-midfielder-nemanja-matic-on-loan-report
Maksimov Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 If he plays at least somewhat regularly, then it can't be a bad thing. If it turns out he's not good enough, then so be it, but if Carlo doesn't have a place for him in the squad this season, then there's no point to have him rot in the reserves.
dkw Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I wonder if Carlo uses these loans as a sort of audition for them, see if they can handle that level of football and are good enough to play for us.
sleepy_gonzalez Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 I wonder if Carlo uses these loans as a sort of audition for them, see if they can handle that level of football and are good enough to play for us. If Stoch's loan was an audition it makes you wonder what the hell you have to do to prove yourself good enough though! Key contribution to a title winning team apparently gets you... a P45! Ok, I know Stoch was keen to leave, but what I'm getting at is that Matic could end up looking pretty good at bologna without it having a positive impact on his position in the chelsea pecking order. It seems like more of a shop window than a career development move. Also I think if we want to utilise him in future, we may be better off trying to expose him to the English game rather than the more sedate italian game
Drizzy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I say good. Like mention, its better for him to get some serie A play then to play reserve matches again.
Maverick Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Its goal.com so I am not too sure how much of attention we should give to this news. By far one of our better players against Palace and Ajax, I see him playing a substantial role in the league/ FA cup games.
Andreas Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Can't be nothing but a positive move if Carlo can't find any place for him this season - I think Matic will stay tho.
Mikstaw Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 He will spend season on the bench in Chelsea I guess... But he is very good young player, and I'd like to see him next season at the Bridge! ;)
Cam Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I fail to see, with the current squad, especially Deco, Ballack and Belletti all going...how Matic couldn't get game time.
Ben Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I fail to see, with the current squad, especially Deco, Ballack and Belletti all going...how Matic couldn't get game time. He's got to be better than Mikel
Cam Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 No, he isn't But an injury to Essien, Mikel or Lampard, and we don't have a lot of other central midfielders.
jcm28 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I think he's staying AND hes getting playing time this season. We can't just sell or loan all of our young players like that. Its like a vicious cycle. We already lost stoch and i certainly don't want to lose Matic as well.
evissy Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 He should stay and be patient. He is only 21 and has only one year on his belt for us. I hope Ivanovic helps him and tells him to be patient. Bran was patient and look at him now. One of our best players last season. And if you didn't know this he was voted as the best right back in the league by fellow players. I very much agree with Cam. If Mikel gets injured who do we have as replacement? No one really as Belletti and Deco are gone. Essien injures easy. Lampard is the only ironman in the midfield... I hope he stays and puts a little competition in our midfield.
Randy36 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 A move to Bologna would undoubtedly afford Matic the opportunity to play first team football on a regular basis. Assuming Essien has fully recovered from injury it makes sense. However, in the event of further injury to Essien it could prove counter productive. I'm rather skeptical about the move!
bcarroll Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 If its a thing Matic is to go out on loan it should be to another Premier League club to allow him to adapt to the pace of the English game rather than heading to Bolongia.
The Moos Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I think we will sign another midfielder and if we do then I guess Carlo see Essien as a potential backup for Mikel if he would get injured. So Matic would be 3rd choice and probably not get too many games. Therefore sending him to another club might not be a bad thing. I'm a bit surprised however that we send him to Italy. We usually let our youngsters go to other english teams or else to Holland. Will Matic learn more things suited for him in Italy than he would somewhere else? Btw. If we send Matic away then maybe that's a sign that Ramires is on his way here?
Oblivion Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Ok, I know Stoch was keen to leave, but what I'm getting at is that Matic could end up looking pretty good at bologna without it having a positive impact on his position in the chelsea pecking order. We have Ross Turnbull, there is always hope.....
jcm28 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Btw. If we send Matic away then maybe that's a sign that Ramires is on his way here? Ive heard by many different people that ramires is already a done deal and that he will be unveiled soon. Hope its true.
Gem Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Shame if it's true - I'd like him to get a chance now Cole, Ballack, Deco and Belletti have gone. Ive not been so underwhelmed by a signing in a very long time till this Ramires. I say save our money and let Matic have his chance.
Planet Drogba Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Ramires underwhelms you? I'm really curious as to what might satisfy you then. It's quite funny how spoiled Chelsea fans have become in recent seasons.

Why are you underwhelmed by us signing a current Brazilian international who is regarded by players like Kaka as one of the best young midfielders in europe? What signing would "whelm" you then? Ben Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Why are you underwhelmed by us signing a current Brazilian international who is regarded by players like Kaka as one of the best young midfielders in europe? What signing would "whelm" you then? Initially I felt a bit underwhelmed, partly because I don't really know enough about him, but everything I read makes me think he will be a good fit for us.
Gem Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) Planet Drogba - I would prefer Matic so I'm spoilt? Behave. I'd rather we give youngsters ago, not splash out again. It's quite funny how some Chelsea fans think they're holier than f**king thou. I'm plenty excited about our youngsters and believe this isn't a requirement. But hey - think I'm spoilt all you want coz you've clearly not a clue. dkw - the same. No signing will really 'whelm' me because I don't think it's nessasary. Perhaps a wide attacking midfielder/attacker, to play on the right of Drogba... but I like Sturridge so if he (even with his left foot) can play there like Nico then I'd rather give what we've got, a chance. I don't share the same view as everyone and I've explained why. If that doesn't satisfy the masses then can't say I care. Perhaps I'll be proved wrong, I hope I am - Carlo knows his stuff - but I know little about him and at 23 where does that leave Matic? Unless it's Lampard's position in 3 or 4 years time then it's either on the bench, loan or sold for pittance. Edited August 10, 2010 by Gem
Gem Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Just a quick apology for the manner of my post - probably went OTT but don't call me a spoilt Chelsea fan, as you don't know anything about me.
